FC 25 Gameplay Deep Dive Overview

The first of 5 FC 25 Deep Dives has been released, with this one focusing on the gameplay. Plenty of new features and changes are coming including the long awaited addition of Goalkeeper PlayStyle+’s. We’ve condensed everything from the new release into one place, 

Tactical Revamp

The big change this year is coming to preset, custom tactics with a whole new system coming our way. More than 50 new Player Roles will guide the way every player thinks and behaves on the pitch, resulting in more authentic tactical intelligence and movement off the ball. Players will fit into each role under four categories (Role, Role+, Role++ and Out of Position). At launch there will be 31 roles available with 52 possible combinations. 

Player Roles Explained

Role - A regular role means the player can play in that Role.

Role+ - Indicated with a ‘+’ sign meaning this player has mastered the Role.Every player in FC 25 has at least one Role+.

Role++ - A ‘++’ sign indicates the player is a world-class player in this role.

Out of Position - The yellow exclamation mark indicates a simplified version of the Role when the player is out of position.

Smart Tactics

The in game tactics menu will also be changing, allowing more options for you without pausing the game. My Tactics, Quick Tactics, Tactical Focus and Substitutes are all now available in more depth from the D-Pad.

Goalkeeper PlayStyles

3 new goalkeeper PlayStyles are coming to FC 25 - Footwork, Deflector and High Reach.

Footwork - Performs foot saves faster and with extended reach.

Deflector - Performs deflection saves into safer areas with increased ball speed control.

High Reach - Performs diving saves with improved reach and has access to extended reach animations.

Passing and Shooting Accuracy Changes

The passing ability, both stats and PlayStyles will significantly increase the quality of passes. This change also ensures that good situations, where you make smart, tactical decisions, will yield better results, truly rewarding your football acumen. If it’s raining, players may also slip when playing a pass.

Shooting will also be adjusted with a similar system. This means that the accuracy of shots will now more closely mirror the real-life abilities of players, their playstyles, and the specific situations they find themselves in during a match. Players can expect that taking shots in difficult situations will feel more challenging, with new animations added to showcase off-balance and tough-angle shots.
