The addition of the women's game to Ultimate Team was well received by the community with may of us using the big names through the year - Putellas, Rolfo, Bacha, Oberdorf, Hemp, Kerr just to name a few, so today we’ve got our first predictions of these leagues, the WSL. The top 10 won’t have changed much in terms of players but there will be a few very nice upgrades to keep an eye out for…
10th - Lauren James (83>86) - Chelsea
After it was announced that Sam Kerr would miss the 2024 section of the season, it was hard to predict whether or not Chelsea would still be in the title race in May, but up stepped Lauren James. She moved into Kerr’s role up front and ended the season as the second top scorer with 13 goals. It was these goals that secured Chelsea their 5th WSL title in a row.
9th - Vivianne Miedema (86>86) - Manchester City
One of the biggest WSL transfers of the summer was Arsenal striker and all time WSL Top Scorer Vivianne Miedema making the move to Manchester. She joins an already stacked attacking line up with Shaw, Fowler, Hemp, Kelly and Park, could this be City’s year? Injury restricted her minutes last season so we’ve kept her as an 86, but wouldn’t be surprised if it did drop one to 85.
8th - Kim Little (86>86) - Arsenal
No movement for Little Kim as we’re keeping her at an 86 after a solid season. If Arsenal made more of a challenge for the title then we’d have considered it, but let’s be real it was only ever a two horse race.
7th - Lucy Bronze (87>86) - Chelsea
She’s not a Bronze, she’s a Gold. Our first downgrade on the list is 2023/24 Champions League winner, Lucy Bronze. Liga F is too easy for Barcelona and she’s just not been hitting the same level of performance for The Lionesses over the past year. It’s just not enough to keep her in the same category as the players 87 and higher. Might be slightly unfair, but only time will tell.
6th - Ashley Lawrence (86>86) - Chelsea
With Bronze’s arrival could we see Ashley Lawrence leave the club? Chelsea now have 3 incredible right backs on their books, it’s hard to see why all 3 would stay… The Canadian played 30 matches for Chelsea last season and had a very solid season so we'll be keeping her an 86.
5th - Beth Mead (87>87) - Arsenal
We’re in a similar position with Mead as we were with Little, she had a very good season but with Arsenal only winning the Conti Cup and not really challenging for the league, we can’t justify an upgrade. 8 goals and 4 assists was a good return for Mead, can she keep this up in 24/25 and take Arsenal back to the top?
4th - Bunny Shaw (85>87) - Manchester City
Feed The Bun and she will score. And that’s exactly what she did last season, 21 goals in 18 matches. No one was even close to taking the Golden Boot away from her. By far the best striker in the league last season and could even see a +3 upgrade to 88, but we’ve played it safe and given her an 87. Her and Miedema up front next season is going to be scary for WSL defenders.
3rd - Lauren Hemp (86>88) - Manchester City
Another +2 for a Manchester City attacker and for good reason, Lauren Hemp has a claim for the best player in the WSL last season. She’s such a threat to the opposition, providing an average of 1 G/A per start and alongside Bunny was the main reason Manchester City pushed Chelsea so close. Unfortunately they couldn’t finish the job, but with added attacking firepower, this could be their time.
2nd - Guro Reiten (88>89) - Chelsea
It’s about time we had another Chelsea upgrade in the list, this time for Norwegian winger Guro Reiten. 12 starts, 12 G/A for Reiten. This upgrade is a little bit of a risk purely due to the limited games, can you get an upgrade starting just over half the league matches? We just felt that Chelsea’s league winning season needed more recognition than one upgrade for LJ.
1st - Sam Kerr (90>90) - Chelsea
Kerr could only manage 12 matches across all competitions this season as an ACL injury ended her campaign early, even missing Australia’s Olympic Games tournament. 9 goals in 12 games before the injury is great form and we see no reason for a downgrade so will be keeping her as the highest rated WSL player for FC 25.
Which WSL players do you think will be upgraded for FC 25?
