It's been an odd day within Ultimate Team given the issue with rewards this morning and then the new season release but 6pm has come around and with it is some player SBC's, World Tour Thauvin came alongside a new card type, an 'On this Day Hero' Keane, which I guess we're also calling a 'Flashback Hero'.
I enjoyed using hero Keane in last year's UT, so was pretty excited to give this version of him a go, These kind of players are normally quite interesting to try out to given they are an OVR downgrade from their original/base items, There is obviously a notable difference in stats between 85 Keane and 86 but the main difference between the items for me isn't in the stats...it's in the playstyle plus.
Keane went into a 442 formation alongside Griezmann who given his price is now just 28,000 coins he may be the best-value attacker on the game. I tried both Finisher and hawk on the forward when using him and didn't notice a huge difference between the two but I'd probably lean towards hawk being the better option overall.

Yeah...8 segments, it feels a bit much for an 85-overall item doesn't it, It sounds weird to say but I don't hate the price as much as I hate the work that needs to go into doing the actual SBC, I guess the thinking behind it on EA's side is it wont seem as pricey given the new SBC storage feature but I don't know about you lot but my club had no 84s in it!
How did he perform in-game?
+ Powershots, they are INCREDIBLE, the playstyle+ is one of my favourites this year, It properly is going to get nerfed at some point but in the current version it's so effective.
+ General finishing, it's not just the previously mentioned shot types either, Keane is reliable in the box, off both feet.
+ Positioning is probably the second best thing about the item behind the PS+, his run making for me was excellent.
/ I found Keane's physicals to be so hit and miss, there were occasions where he'd win the ball well in duels and then other occasions where he'd get pushed off the ball with ease, he can compete for now in this department but as we get further into the game he's going to get destroyed.
- Passing, sadly in this area Keane is pretty average, his short passing game is alright but everything else is poor.
85 Keane - Cop or Flop?
So is this Keane fun to use? Absolutely, but is it value for money...no.
Keane was solid and I think will be a good pick up for some but he's far from a complete forward and given his price you'd be right to expect a bit more, I do expect this card to be popular, and will be in a lot of WL teams as despite him being expensive his SBC's are not overly high rated so I do think a lot will complete, but I'd recommend saving your fodder.
With the SBC being out for another month, you've got plenty of time to decide for yourself if he's worth sinking 250,000 coins worth of items into.
Verdict = Flop
