November 4th, the day the FIFA 22 Online Servers shut down forever…
The old Chemistry System, Silver Stars, Flashback Neymar, Nkunku’s weekly special cards and so much more! Let’s take a trip down memory lane and run through our favourite parts of FIFA 22 three years later!
Honourable Mention - Adidas Numbers Up
Definitely not a Top 5 FIFA 22 memory but it certainly sticks out as one of the more intriguing promo’s of the year. Card stats would be upgraded throughout the year but not through any real life performances, it was based on which Adidas boot they wore. Unfortunately some of the boosts didn’t line up with some players, the 99 Pace boost would have been much better off on Hummels than the passing. It was an interesting promo but not one we can see returning.
5th - Christopher Nkunku
FIFA 22 was the year where Nkunku really made a name for himself. He had received back to back Team of the Season cards before this season but his base version never really got the recognition it deserved. He was one of the best players in the world this season and ended with a combined 33 Goals and Assists in the league alone. FIFA 22 ended with him receiving ELEVEN special cards including not one, not two, not three, but FOUR Bundesliga Player of The Month cards. FIFA 22 was his year.
4th - Heroes
After Icons were added in FIFA 14, the addition of those just a level below were a great welcome. It allowed us to use those players who just fell short of Icon status but still had incredible careers. It absolutely was not fun to come up against David Ginola but using him on the other hand was incredible. Heroes have been some of the best cards to use in recent years and would be wrong not to give them a mention!
3rd - The Old Chemistry System
Makes me feel really old seeing people not understand this Chemistry System, these kids really have it too easy nowadays. You couldn’t use a LB and RW from the same team and get Chemistry, they also needed to play next to each other, with another link needed most of the time. Position modifiers also fall under this, Alternate Positions didn’t exist meaning yes, you could play Gareth Bale at CDM (and even CB on 5 Chem) if you really wanted to.
2nd - Flashback Neymar
I’m not speaking about FIFA 22 without bringing up Flashback Neymar. One of my favourite players IRL and with his base costing 500,000 coins at the time of the SBC release (February), a cheaper, faster version was more than welcome.
A genuine all timer FIFA Card.
1st - Silver Stars
Bring back Silver Stars. The Silver Stars objectives started in FIFA 21 but it was 22 where they really came to life. We love to look back on the early games, FIFA 10-14, where Silver Players could compete with the very best, but that slowly died as time went on. However the Silver Stars promo brought that joy back, Flashback Pogba, De Bruyne and Reus were my personal favourites!
RIP FIFA 22, you will be missed.
