It may be the festive season, but the football doesn't stop! TOTW 15 brings top players from several divisions, whether that’s Oblak helping Atlético go top, Dybala bringing Roma up the table, or Díaz’s MOTM performance during a nine-goal thriller.
Jan Oblak - GK - 88 > 89 OVR
Six saves / Barcelona 1 - Atletico Madrid 2 / 8 Sofascore Rating
This was a huge fixture in the La Liga title race, and Barcelona’s poor form continued, with Atlético taking advantage and going top of the table with a 2-1 win. I fully expect an IF from this match, and it was Oblak’s six saves that earned him the highest Atlético rating.
Miguel Gutierrez - LB - 80 > 84 OVR
Two assists and clean sheet / Girona 3 - Vallecano 0 / 8.9 Sofascore Rating
As is usually the case with 5-at-the-back/3-at-the-back formations, Gutierrez’s position is up for debate. With his base card being a LB and Diallo recently included as a RB, I am willing to opt for the LB option. The Spaniard provided two assists as Girona recorded a 3-0 win.
Dominik Kohr - CB - 75 > 86 OVR
MOTM / Frankfurt 1 - Mainz 3 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
With no attacking returns nor a clean sheet to his name, Kohr may come as a surprise, but with Kicker rating the German so highly for his performance during Mainz’s win over Frankfurt, alongside the reduced number of fixtures this week, there’s a good possibility that Kohr ends up making the side.
Ola Aina - LB - 75 > 86 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Brentford 0 - Forest 2 / 8 Sky Rating
Forest continue to record results as they show no signs of slowing down during this European charge. They now sit in fourth after securing their fourth win from their last five matches. Ola Aina has been a standout player throughout the campaign, and he added another goal to his tally during the 2-0 victory over Brentford.
Ousmane Dembele - RW - 86 > 88 OVR
Two goals / Monaco 2 - PSG 4 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Just one fixture from Ligue 1 can make this side, with the division taking a break for their cup fixtures this week. PSG vs. Monaco is a big fixture, though, so despite it falling on a Wednesday, I expect someone to feature. Dembélé was named MOTM after scoring two of their four goals, but a recent Globetrotter promotional card does pose some risk.
Joshua Kimmich - CDM - 86 > 87 OVR
Goal and assist / Munich 5 - Leipzig 1 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
There were numerous options from Munich’s 5-1 victory over Leipzig, with Davies and Kimmich especially standing out. The German was named MOTM, and with Kicker being a reliable source, I find it difficult to overlook that.
Paulo Dybala - CAM - 87 > 88 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Roma 5 - Parma 0 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
It’s been a rather miserable campaign for Roma, with the Italian side being closer to the relegation spots than to Europe. A convincing 5-0 win at home to Parma this weekend helped steer them in the right direction, with Dybala standing out with three attacking contributions.
Bruma - LW - 77 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Santa Clara 0 - Braga 2 / 9 Sofascore Rating
With the lack of Ligue 1 this week, I would be shocked if Portugal fails to feature. There are a couple of options, but both are fringe. Bruma is my punt after his double helped Braga to a 2-0 away win.
Luis Diaz - ST - 84 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Tottenham 3 - Liverpool 6 / 9 Sky Rating
A simply ludicrous match played out on Sunday evening, with a goal fest between Liverpool and Tottenham seeing the visitors come away with a 6-3 win. Salah was phenomenal again, but with so many promotional cards to his name already, I can see it being Díaz who sneaks in after scoring twice from the more advanced ST position.
Patrik Schick - ST - 82 > 86 OVR
Four goals / Leverkusen 5 - Freiburg 1 / 1 Kicker Rating
Schick continued his strong goal-scoring form of late with another four added to his tally this week, remarkably from an expected figure of just 1.08. The Czech striker went on to receive Player of the Week, and with a four-week gap, he should receive his second IF of the game so far.
Gabriel Jesus - ST - 82 > 85 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Palace 1 - Arsenal 5 / 8 Sky Rating
Jesus has picked up some form for Arsenal recently, showing performances we haven’t seen since the beginning of the previous campaign. Two goals and an assist from the Brazilian helped Arsenal secure a comfortable away win at Palace on Saturday.
Substitutes
Filip Stankovic - GK - 70 > 83 OVR
Six saves / Venezia 2 - Cagliari 1 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
I am trying my luck with two keepers again this week with Stankovic’s 8 rating from Gazzetta really stands out. This match was a real six-pointer, with both sides desperately needing points in the relegation battle. Venezia came out on top, largely due to the heroics of Stankovic between the sticks.
Dean Huijsen - CB - 68 > 83 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Man United 0 - Bournemouth 3 / 8 Sky Rating
Another side shocking the division in England is Bournemouth. Their latest result, a 3-0 away win at Old Trafford, has taken them up to fifth in the table. Since breaking into the side, Spanish youngster Huijsen has impressed. He scored the opener this week and was solid all around.
Goncalo Guedes - CAM - 77 > 83 OVR
Goal and assist / Leicester 0 - Wolves 3 / 8 Sky Rating
Vitor Pereira started his Wolves managerial role in perfect fashion, orchestrating a 3-0 away win over fellow strugglers Leicester. Guedes, who has struggled to find a spot in the Wolves side this season, stood out, providing both a goal and an assist as they are now two points from safety.
Charles De Ketelaere - CAM - 79 > 84 OVR
Two goals / Atalanta 3 - Empoli 2 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
League leaders Atalanta survived a scare at home to Empoli, with De Ketelaere scoring a late winner, his second of the match, to secure a 3-2 win. Gazzetta named the Belgian MOTM with an 8 rating, which is the joint highest of the week.
Morgan Rogers - LM - 75 > 83 OVR
Goal and assist / Aston Villa 2 - Man City 1 / 9 Sky Rating
Will the downfall of City ever end? They are now within the realms of Wolves and Leicester in terms of form over the last 10 matches. Rodgers was the latest to cause an upset, with his goal and assist helping Villa to a 2-1 win.
Myrto Uzuni - ST - 76 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Granada 4 - Cartagena 1 / 8.9 Sofascore Rating
Although this comes from a Tuesday fixture with Uzuni scoring three goals as a gold item, I can’t see EA ignoring him. Hat tricks have been included from random divisions recently, and we already know that the second division of Spain has received numerous IFs prior to this prediction.
Luis Javier Suarez - ST - 75 > 83 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Racing Ferrol 1 - Almeria 4 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Speaking of the second tier of Spain, we have another hat trick within our ranks, this time coming from Almería’s convincing 4-1 away win. Suárez also has an assist to his name, meaning if only one ends up making the side, it should be him
Reserves
Nick Doodeman - RM - 65 > 83 OVR
Three assists / Willem 4 - NEC 1 / 7.5 VI Rating
Bryn Morris - CM - 63 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Newport 6 - MK Dons 3 / 9.5 Sofascore Rating
Callum Lang - CAM - 67 > 83 OVR
Four goals / Portsmouth 4 - Coventry 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Thierno Barry - ST - 69 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Leganes 2 - Villarreal 5 / 9.3 Sofascore Rating
Shuto Machino - ST - 69 > 83 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Kiel 5 - Augsburg 1 / 1 Kicker Rating
