With FA Cup matches taking place this weekend, it means no Premier League players feature in this week’s prediction. However, there are plenty of players to get excited about, with Oblak’s heroics between the sticks, a featured IF Clauss, and yet another Dembélé performance standing out this week.
Jan Oblak - GK - 88 > 89 OVR
Eight saves / Real Madrid 1 - Atletico Madrid 1 / 8 Sofascore Rating
The goalkeeper selection was ridiculously difficult this week, with no standout options, just some fringe players. Oblak is my pick due to the calibre of the match. He made eight saves in total as Atlético held onto an away point against rivals Real Madrid.
Jonathan Clauss - RB - 80 > 87 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Nice 2 - Lens 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Clauss is often remembered by players for the cards he has received over the years. EA have the opportunity this week to add another to that collection. The Frenchman scored one of Nice’s two goals and contributed to their clean sheet in a 2-0 win.
Julian Chabot - CB - 77 > 85 OVR
One goal / Dortmund 1 - Stuttgart 2 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
We correctly predicted Anton last week, who snuck in with a 2.5 rating. The situation is not too dissimilar here, with limited defensive options once again. However, Chabot was named MOTM with a 1.5 rating, which usually guarantees a player's inclusion.
Javi Rodriguez - CB - 57 > 87 OVR
One goal / Celta Vigo 3 - Betis 2 / 8.7 Sofascore Rating
With a base rating of 85 for all IFs now, I see no reason why non-gold options can’t be included in the starting eleven, especially from the top five divisions. Rodríguez scored once for Vigo in their hard-fought 3-2 win over Betis and received a high match rating in the process.
Georginio Wijnaldum - CM - 78 > 87 OVR
One goal, one assist / Al-Okhdood 0 - Al-Ettifaq 2 / 8 Sofascore Rating
Wijnaldum really should have been included last week but EA opted to snub him for Ronaldo in one of the worst decisions of this game (performance wise) Yet again the Dutchman finds himself in line for an IF after being involved in both Al-Ettifaq goals with a goal and an assist.
Caroline Weir - CAM - 84 > 87 OVR
One goal, one assist / Levante 1 - Real Madrid 2 / 8.3 Sofascore Rating
Levante came into this match full of confidence, having beaten Barcelona the week before. It was always going to be a difficult test, but a 2-1 loss is not a poor result against Madrid. Weir was the difference, making a direct contribution to both goals.
Oihan Sancet - CAM - 72 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Athletic Club 3 - Girona 0 / 9.3 Sofascore Rating
It looks as though Girona are not going to replicate last season’s success, with the side slowly drifting away from European positions, let alone the Champions League. Athletic Club recorded a comfortable 3-0 home win against Girona this weekend, with Sancet scoring all three.
Christian Pulisic - RM - 83 > 86 OVR
Two assists / Empoli 0 - AC Milan 2 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
Milan were struggling away at Empoli, with the score deadlocked heading into the break. Pulisic came on for the second half and changed the game, constantly creating chances down the wing. The American provided the assist for both Milan goals, claiming MOTM with a 7.5 rating.
Mateo Retegui - ST - 76 > 87 OVR
Four goals / Verona 0 - Atalanta 5 / 9 Gazzetta Rating
Retegui took strides towards the Golden Boot this season with four goals away at Verona, taking his tally to 20 for the season—five ahead of second-placed Kean. While the Italian has been snubbed for an IF several times this season, if he misses out on Wednesday, we have to start asking questions.
Ousmane Dembele - ST - 86 > 89 OVR
Two goals / PSG 4 - Monaco 1 / 8 L’equipe Rating
EA opted to stick with the four-week gap last week, even with players scoring three and four goals. Dembélé now meets the four-week requirement and is once again among the goals for PSG. Maintaining his striker role this week, the Frenchman added another two goals to his tally, claiming MOTM with an 8/10 rating.
Moise Kean - ST - 78 > 87 OVR
Two goals / Fiorentina 3 - Inter 0 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
Fiorentina delivered a heavy blow to Inter’s title contention with a 3-0 home win on Thursday. Kean scored two of the three, taking his season tally to 15. The Italian is now demonstrating why he was highly rated during his early years and could easily secure a big move in the summer.
Substitutes
Cristhian Mosquera - RB - 77 > 85 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Valencia 2 - Leganes 0 / 8 Sofascore Rating
This match was a real six-pointer, with both sides sitting in the relegation zone—a loss could have been detrimental to their season. It was the hosts who came out on top, and while Valencia still remain in the relegation zone, their position looks much better after securing three points. Mosquera scored one of the two goals.
Rayan Cherki - RM - 75 > 85 OVR
One goal, two assists / Lyon 4 - Reims 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Both Cherki and Tolisso received an 8/10 from L’Équipe this week, so either player could realistically make it. With the extra assist to his name, it makes sense to lean towards Cherki. Lyon went on to comfortably beat Reims 4-0.
Vanessa Fudalla - CM - 75 > 85 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Werder 1 - Leipzig 4 / 10 Sofascore Rating
The Frauen Bundesliga inclusion this week was extremely easy, with Fudalla being involved in all four Leipzig goals, contributing two goals and two assists while playing in what seems to be a deeper central midfield role.
Cristiana Girelli - ST - 85 > 87 OVR
Hat trick / AC Milan 0 - Juventus 6 / 9.1 Sofascore Rating
We are yet to see a promotional card from this division, which is slightly worrying, but this will be the real test to see if EA are willing to award the division IFs. Girelli scored three times as Juventus hammered AC Milan 6-0.
Valentin Castellanos - ST - 79 > 85 OVR
One goal, two assists / Lazio 5 - Monza 1 / 8 Gazzetta Rating
Lazio made it nine defeats in ten for Monza, who are seriously struggling at the bottom of the table. There were a couple of standout options from this 5-1 Lazio win, with Pedro scoring twice, but I ultimately decided to select Castellanos, with the Argentine scoring once and assisting two more while claiming a high match rating.
Lara Prasnikar - ST - 84 > 87 OVR
Three goals, three assists / Frankfurt 9 - Potsdam 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Its a difficult season to be a Potsdam fan with the club on just one point and a -45 GD after just 14 games. Frankfurt put nine past them without response this week with their striker, Prasnikar having a field day.
Abderrazak Hamdallah - ST - 78 > 85 OVR
Hat trick / Al-Shabab 5 - Al-Khaleej 1 / 9.5Sofascore Rating
There were two strong TOTW contenders from Al-Shabab this week, with Hoedt narrowly missing out after scoring twice from centre-back. Hamdallah is difficult to ignore after scoring three times, especially with the gold-to-silver difference also being a factor.
Reserves
Jeremy Jacquet - CB - 62 > 85 OVR
MOTM / St Etienne 0 - Rennes 2 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Arne Engels - CM - 72 > 85 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Celtic 6 - Dundee 0 / 9.4 Sofascore Rating
Alvyn Sanches - CM - 67 > 85 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Lausanne 4 - Yverdon 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Benedict Hollerbach - LM - 72 > 85 OVR
Two goals / Hoffenheim 0 - Union Berlin 4 / 1.5 Kicker Rating
Javier Ontiveros - CAM - 69 > 85 OVR
Three assists / Cadiz 5 - Cartagena 2 / 8.3 Sofascore Rating
