With the World Cup over and festive celebrations out the way, it's time to return to the weekly TOTWs. Although many leagues are yet to return to action the Premier League, Ligue 1 and La Liga all played so there are plenty of familiar names for TOTW 10.
Jeremias Ledesma - GK - 80 > 85 OVR
Five saves / 1-1 draw with Almeira / 8.5 Whoscored Rating
There are minimal suggestions when it came to selecting keepers this week but one who stood out to me was Ledesma, the Argentine made several key saves to keep Cadiz level, helping them to earn a crucial point.
Nuno Santos - LWB - 78 > 82 OVR
One goal, one assist, clean sheet / 3-0 win against Pacos / 8 Abola Rating
This one could go to either wingback with both Santos and Porro both providing two attacking contributions alongside a clean sheet. From what I can find Santos seems to have been awarded the official MOTM award and due to that I would expect him to get the nod.
James Tarkowski - CB - 79 > 82 OVR
MOTM / 1-1 draw with Manchester City / 9 Sky Rating
Manchester City are still title favourites as it stands but after dropping two more points while Arsenal win yet again it’s becoming a tough ask. Everton despite conceding put in a solid defensive display with Tarkowski at the heart of that, hence the high match rating.
Przemyslaw Frankowski - RWB - 76 > 81 OVR
One goal / 3-1 win against PSG / 8 L’equipe Rating
Although PSG were without several star players this Lens result is nothing to look down upon. Several players stood out and the IF could go numerous ways. With a goal and an 8-match rating, I would expect Frankowski to be the player they decide upon.
Ricardo Horta - LM - 81 > 84 OVR
Two goals / 3-0 win against Benfica / 9 Abola
Several players from Portugal made strong claims for a spot in TOTW 10 and with limited leagues in action, it is unlikely that they will be limited to the usual one per week. Horta is the second to make my prediction after his brace helped inflict Benfica’s first loss of the campaign.
Martin Odegaard - CM - 84 > 87 OVR
One goal, one assist / 4-2 win against Brighton / 9 Sky Rating
Although many years later than initially anticipated Odegaard is now becoming a world-class talent. It seems as though he has been around forever but is still only 24 years of age. The Norwegian midfielder was named MOTM during both Arsenal fixtures this week and walks into this side.
Marcus Rashford - LM - 81 > 84 OVR
One goal, one assist / 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest / 8 Sky Rating
Rashford has come into his own recently with performances week in, week out showing why there was so much hype surrounding him when he burst onto the scene. He could be selected from either of his matches this week.
Douglas Luiz - CM - 78 > 84 OVR
One Goal / 2-0 win against Tottenham / 8 Sky Rating
Tottenham looked poor against Brentford but managed to secure a point from two down, the same didn’t happen against Villa, who capitalised on their lead. Luiz was fantastic throughout and even added a goal.
Antoine Griezmann - CF - 83 > 86 OVR
Two assists / 2-0 win against Elche / 7.8 Whoscored Rating
We saw Griezmann operate a different role during the World Cup and he surprised many, performing brilliantly throughout. He has taken that form and a rather out-there haircut back to his domestic performances. Providing both assists for Atletico against Elche
Ivan Toney - ST - 77 > 84 OVR
One goal, one assist / 2-0 win against West Ham / 9 Sky Rating
The off-the-pitch situation with Toney currently ongoing could have easily harmed his performances for Brentford but that is anything but the case with the Englishman continuing to excel. He was pivotal in both Brentford results but it is the West Ham match he is likely to be included for.
Aleksandar Mitrovic - ST - 78 > 84 OVR
One goal, two assists / 3-0 win against Palace / 9 Sky Rating
Although this match happened last Monday and usually wouldn’t count towards TOTW with the gap in the promotion only just finishing I can see an exception being made this week. As a result, Mitrovic would be nailed on for this side after being involved in all three Fulham goals.
Substitutes
Illan Meslier - GK - 77 > 84 OVR
Five saves and a clean sheet / 0-0 draw with Newcastle / 8 Sky Rating
Although there is only a three-side gap between TOTW 7 and 10 with the break for the World Cup within that time I can't see it being an issue. Keepers were few and far between this week, so with Meslier being named MOTM against high-flying Newcastle, it made sense to include the Frenchman.
Sead Kolasinac - LB - 75 > 81 OVR
One goal / 6-1 win against Toulouse / 7 L’equipe rating
Clauss was originally my pick for this match but with a recent winter wildcard to his name, I opted to snub the Frenchman. With such a convincing result for Marseille, I still expect an IF or them. There are several options but with Kolasinac’s goal being top-drawer I can see him sneaking it.
Maxence Caqueret - CM - 79 > 82 OVR
One goal, one assist / 4-2 win against Brest / 8 L’equipe rating
This was a difficult decision with both Lacazette and Caqueret achieving the same match rating and goal contributions but with Caqueret playing further back I would expect the IF to end up going his way.
Michael Olise - CM - 76 > 81 OVR
Two assists / 2-0 win against Bournemouth . 8 Sky Rating
With three wins from their last five Palace are starting to look a lot better than their early season form and are climbing the table as a result. Their latest three points came against struggling Bournemouth with Olise providing the assist for both goals
Brais Mendez - CAM - 77 > 81 OVR
Goal and assist / 2-0 win against Osasuna / 8.5 Whoscored Rating
With half of all La Liga matches this week ending in draws it was difficult to select many potential IF’s from the division. Mendez stood out from Sociedad’s win though with both a goal and an assist from a central position.
Aaron Mooy - CM - 76 > 81 OVR
Two goals / 4-0 win against Hibernian / 9 Whoscored Rating
A convincing win for Celtic keeps their run of form going as they get ever closer to yet another title. Mooy scored two of their four and with limited fixtures that should be enough for his inclusion.
Taremi - ST - 81 > 84 OVR
Hat trick / 5-1 win against Arouca / 8 Abola Rating
With Benfica picking up their first loss of the season it allowed Porto to close the gap at the top to five points. Taremi was among the goals, as usual, scoring three times in a convincing win.
