TOTY is well and truly underway with the attacking trio dropping into packs this weekend. If you tuned into our TOTY Benzema review then you will know that the Madrid man is about as clinical as they come, but was a little short on pace and was not the most fluid of operators.
The price tag on King Benz was a hefty one but is nothing compared to the PSG duo that accompanied him in this year's TOTY attacking lineup. We recognize the massive price tag for TOTY Messi and the astronomical fee for TOTY Mbappé and therefore combined the two Paris superstars in a small overview of their talents overall.
If you utilize the Loan pack in the store for Mbappé and the free Moments pack for Messi then you can at least enjoy the 7-game loan of these two worldbeaters. Unfortunately, this experiment has completely ruined me for other cards in the game… but definitely confirmed that these two are on a level that will stand up until the end of FIFA 23
TOTY MBAPPÉ
Wow! The one-word review for this attacking phenom. For 9 million coins it has to be absolutely perfect, and it is. I recognize that a 9 million coin card being unstoppable isn’t newsworthy… but there is just nothing this man can’t do. The card is broken in every way and was way too much fun to use.
Overall
I have not used a better card in all my years of FIFA… save for maybe other versions of TOTY Mbappé. Even then, this card ticks every box of the current META and even has the luxury of size, while maintaining quickness, agility, and of course the ridiculous sprint speed.
Main Statistics – Shooting
Shooting Rating: 10/10
Weak Foot: ★★★★
Traits: Outside Foot
Even with the ridiculous statistics, this was the one area that Mbappé exceeded what you might expect to get from in-game performance. The lack of a 5-STAR WEAK FOOT and FINESSE SHOT trait could have altered the success rate on the left foot, much like the results with TOTY Messi.
This was not even remotely close to the case. I swear Mbappé does not miss. It was as if I had gone back in time and someone had slipped the Game Genie (if you know, you know) in place and unleashed Mbappé on my opponents.
Closing Words
I mentioned these cards ruining my FIFA experience moving forward and Mbappé is the key culprit. How do I go back to the lads in my squad and say, “produce what the new guy did.” It is a different world when you have access to those levels of coins and this card is proof that money actually can buy happiness. Again, Wow!
TOTY MESSI
Played Messi as the central ST and LW in the 4-3-2-1 and again as the left striker in the 4-2-2-2 and as you can imagine, he is pretty special. But there were a couple of areas that left a small hesitation when staring down the barrel of a 4.5 million coin price tag.
Overall
Obviously, this card is a 10/10 and had a massive impact on the overall quality of the team during his short loan spell with the squad. Having reviewed the TOTT version of this card this was not only expected but guaranteed. However, there are two things that stand out from that review that might be worth mentioning.
Main Statistics – Shooting
Shooting Rating: 9.5/10
Weak Foot: ★★★★
Traits: Outside Foot, Finesse Shot
This is the main statistic for Messi not because it is his strongest, but because there is a slight change since the TOTT review. At the time Messi received a 10/10 for Shooting and it is not like the TOTY version is worse, on the contrary, he is much improved on the right foot.
However, there have been enough cards reviewed with insane Weak Foot quality that the bar has moved and I wouldn’t place Messi in the perfect category anymore. He does more than make up for it on the left where he has the benefit of dueling shooting traits and near-perfect Shooting statistics. But the lack of the same consistency on the right foot was a disappointment for such an expensive card.
With the power shots utilizing laces, the right foot is automatic, but any attempt at finesse or first-time finishes became slightly sporadic.
Closing Words
The physical statistics are much improved and notably superior to the TOTT version and are definitely the biggest selling point between the two. They are extremely similar in pace and dribbling, which are so smooth and a dream for left-stick dribbling. But the ability to actually fend off challenges makes this card a different animal overall. So much fun… get the loan, try him out, and join us in dreaming that a blue card with an Argentinian flag is coming our way.
