FIFA 23 FUTTIES Ryan Kent Player Review - COP or FLOP?

FUTTIES fever is well and truly alive today as the return of the rat king himself is finally available for unlock. We all had flashbacks to Fifa 20 when we saw this FUTTIES Ryan Kent card become available within this seasons Objectives but the ultimate question is, should you choose him over the pack option?

Let’s be honest, Kent has been an item that haunts us every year since that RTTF card first burst onto the scene back in Fifa 20. Every year so far, EA have managed to slide a Kent card into the game but since Fifa 20, he hasn’t quite lived up to the hype. A FUT Birthday card in Fifa 21, A Showdown Item in Fifa 22 and this year we have been hit with the double because early on we were given a Centurions Kent item but now we have this luxurious Premium FUTTIES Kent card.

The trick here of course is that you will be sacrificing getting an 84+ x25 pack. So the ultimate question here is, should Kent be the choice over the pack?

You can check out the card here!

In order to unlock this Ryan Kent card, you need to get to Level 20 within the new Season which to do so requires you to earn 20,000xp within Objectives. As of today that has now become a possibility with the new release of some Weekly Objectives, taking us over that 20k threshold.

Whilst of course there is no physical cost to this item, it does require something a little bit more valuable. Your time. Now in any other time of the year I feel like taking the pack option is purely to save for the next promo. Even then it’s a case of whether or not the promo is worth opening packs for. In this case, we currently have a mix of “Best of” team 1 in packs alongside team 2 of the FUTTIES promo.

For me, “Best of” Team 1 is a little underwhelming so you would maybe want to save the pack for Friday when the new “Best of” team is in packs. As for FUTTIES, a lot of the items are really cheap and if they aren’t odds are you aren’t going to pack them.

So now that we’re clear on understanding the Pack options here, let’s talk a little bit about how this Kent card performs.

Ryan Kent slotted straight into my main squad which I feel is heavily worth noting as I feel it’s important to know if this card makes it into main teams. Being a Premium FUTTIES item of course means Chemistry isn’t an issue for this card so pretty much acts like an Icon within the squad. I applied the Marksman chemstyle to give the additional boosts to Dribbling, Shooting and Physical which I feel is much needed as Pace is already near perfect.

Playing in what is slowly becoming a favourite formation of mine, the 4-2-4. Ryan Kent was bolting up the wing slotting the ball into my two favourite strikers of this year, POTM Mbappe and the new FUTTIES Tammy Abraham card. Between the 3 of them alone, they dominated in attack.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Pace is as to be expected, incredible on this card. Though worth noting he did not share the same ability as Rodrygo with knock-on sprinting. But was still absolutely rapid.
+ Dribbling is also fantastic on this card, he is so sharp when it comes to moving with the ball. 99 Balance and Agility served this card very well.
+ Shooting was really good on this card. I didn’t have him pinned as a finisher for me, he was a lot more, sprinting down the wing but when he got into Goal Scoring positions he did not miss and that was massively helped by the 5* WF.
+ Passing on this item was overall pretty good however he isn’t an ideal candidate for taking corners. For some reason he just didn’t feel great initially taking a corner but served better to take a quick pass and dribble around players in the box.
- Strength was a clear negative on this card, being slightly shorter and low strength meant he was an easy target for most highly physical players. However it was worth noting the aggression on this card was impressive as he would hunt down most players to regain control of the ball.

Ryan Kent - Cop or Flop?

So I’ve covered a bit around both options. But I haven’t really spoke on the options you have in this position. RWs in the game feel a little bit fair and few (In terms of useable options). Which is something I mentioned in the Rodrygo article. Kent coming in is a massively useable option for this position that if you needed him to, could go back to the left as a backup. Though you will want to keep him on the Right.
For me that’s massively important because this choice has a bit of weight to it now. Kent adds a lot more value than just simply a very useable card. He’s a useable card in a position that has a very small pool of players to choose from.

So me for I feel he is the clear option to go for here. Yes, you are giving up the chance at packing something big. But I have seen many 84+ x25 packs that grant many 84 rated players so you don’t want to come to regret that. Of which, back with the Kroos option we had, a lot of people I know came to regret not taking Kroos and I think Kent will be the same here. He is an absolute must-cop!

Verdict = COP
