After 3 years off the top, FC Barcelona finally won La Liga again after a very impressive season. Xavi has them playing some really nice football and no one deserved the league more than them last season. Winning the league will come with some huge upgrades to certain players and Barcelona look a lot more exciting to use in FC 24!
Goalkeepers and Defenders
Marc-Andre ter Stegen - 89 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 88
Ter Stegen looks to have finally taken over Neuer as Germany’s number one and this season has proved that spot is in good hands.
The Barcelona keeper kept 26 clean sheets in 38 games and equalled the clean sheet record in La Liga which has stood for nearly 30 years.
He’s had a very impressive season so we’ve decided to increase his rating by one and up to 89 for EA Sports FC.
Jules Kounde - 86 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating – 84
We’re unsure as to which will be Kounde’s main position next year as the game split between RB and CB is 21 to 19 but he’ll definitely have the other as an alternate position.
Kounde was a key member of the Barcelona backline and one of the main reasons why they were so impressive in defence.
Very good season and very deserving of the +2 upgrade.
Ronald Araujo - 85 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 83
We accidentally left Araujo out of our Top 20 CB Predictions but don’t worry he deserves to be in there after a very good season.
He missed a few games through injury which only proved why he’s so valuable to the team.
Barcelona only lost 1 La Liga match when he started, as opposed to 4 losses when he was missing from the squad.
Inigo Martinez - 82 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 82
After 5 years at Athletic Bilbao Inigo Martinez left following the expiry of his contract to join Barcelona.
We’ve decided to keep Inigo at 82 rated as he had a fairly solid season but spend a good portion out injured.
Would be a bit unfair to downgrade through no fault of his own!
Midfielders
Ilkay Gundogan - 87 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 85
If Barcelona’s midfield wasn’t strong enough, then it certainly will be now after signing the German.
Gundo has been integral to Manchester City’s success in recent years and went out on a high, captaining them to the treble.
He’ll be sorely missed in Manchester but is a massive addition for Barcelona who look to retain La Liga next season.
Frenkie De Jong - 87 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 87
A midfield of Frenkie, Pedri and Ilkay Gundogan feels illegal and with Frenkie coming off the back of another good season we fear for La Liga next year.
It wasn’t his best ever season in terms of numbers but with Barcelona winning La Liga we can’t see him being downgraded so have kept him at 87 for EA Sports FC.
Pedri - 86 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 85
Just the 41 games for Pedri this season compared to the whopping 68 he played in the 2020/21 season.
Barcelona were back on top of La Liga this year with Pedri at the centre of it all. Popped up with 7 goals and an assist so we’ve given him a +1.
Gavi - 83 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 79
It’s hard to believe that Gavi is still only 19 with him already having more than 100 senior appearances to his name.
He was a mainstay in Barcelona’s midfield last season and only missed games through suspension.
We’ve gone for a huge +4 for Gavi but we won’t be surprised if he ends up with an even bigger upgrade.
Attackers
Robert Lewandowski - 91 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 91
No upgrade or downgrade for Lewa as 91 is the perfect rating to reflect his performances last season.
The Polish forward bagged 33 across all competitions and helped Barcelona and Xavi take home the La Liga title.
With Messi and Benzema moving out of Europe will Lewa find his way back into the World TOTY in 2024?
Raphinha - 84 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 83
Raphinha left Leeds for Barcelona and nearly doubled his output from the previous season.
The Brazilian chipped in with 22 goal contributions throughout the campaign as he won his first ever league title.
We’ve upped him from an 83 to an 84 for next year's game.
Ferran Torres - 82 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 82
Ferran Torres left Manchester City more than 2 years ago but has struggled to find that same form in Barcelona.
The attacker only managed to score 7 goals last season but has since changed to the number 7… Will this have an impact on his performance in 23/24?
Ansu Fati - 80 OVR
FIFA 23 Rating - 79
Ansu Fati is only 20 but at Barcelona, that means you’re an experienced player. He made his debut at 16 and has been in the first team ever since.
14 goal contributions was a decent return but only enough for a +1, even if Barca did win a couple of trophies.
Which team should we look at next?
