Every single fifa I have put faith in Handanovic since fifa 14, but this year I couldn't even bother since they disrespected a club legend and gave him 80 diving, so I made a switch this year. Maignan, or as I like to call him, "Mike Mangles Nans" is like every other keeper in this game and decides to take days off between the sticks, or plays as if his life depends on it. I FULLY believe however he is the only option when is comes to Calcio A/ French teams. More on that in the Pros/Cons. He's had games where he's played a 10.0 on occasion, and other games where he dove after the ball was in the net. On one other memorable occasion a finesse floated straight down the middle at chest height from 20 yards out... and he dove under it. Didn't even extend his arm all the way up. But that's not Mangles Nans fault. I fully believe the game scripts keepers to play good or bad each game and stats are useless. Timed finesse shots also break keepers often times it seems. I can't compare him to any other keepers because I used Rui Patricio for maybe 3 games before I got this club legend himself.
In conclusion I gave him 4* overall cause he certainly does his job. With Skriniar and Koulibaly infront of him it's no wonder he slacks off some games cause he has one of the best CB partnerships just ahead of him. Must not be worried enough on occasion. At 3k at the time of writing this review his price is impeccable. As a game changer he only gets 3* since it is unknown whether you'll get the true Mangles Nans, or just be a flatlined traffic cone with the appearance of a big man.
Reactions - Some games he just falls down when the ball is hit with power but most the time he reliably is able to mangle the ball out of danger with a quick cat like side dive so I'll give him a + here. I used Glove mostly so they stayed on 86. If glove isn't for you his reactions would be more reliable.
Kicking - This is the reason he should be in any Calcio A/ French backline. With 85 kicking this man can reliably send wingers, or in my case attacking fullbacks, down the line with pin point precision. He can hit a target man up top square on the chest in the opponents half as well. Where you aim, he will hit the target with a minimal margin of error. A tall, French, angry looking in an "I mean business type of way" Iniesta between your sticks. What more could you need. also, 4* weak foot. He gets a 9 for passing for a reason.
Comes For Crosses Trait - Forget to bring your keeper out for a dangerous corner delivery? Mikes got you covered. He'll mangle that ball out of danger 9 times out of 10.
Handling - He's not called Mangles Nans for nothing. Rarely parries the ball into danger and can often recover it. He's most dangerous with the ball in those mangly hands of his anyways as being able to hang onto the ball compliments his kicking very well since that comes next typically.
Speed - He's not fast, but he's not slow. As a sweeper he has won the ball many more times with a well timed tackle or slide than he has allowed goals when it comes to 1v1 scenarios. Also the reason I gave him a 6 for defending and 5 for pace.
6'3 - Not the biggest keeper but certainly not the smallest. Definitely would benefit from a couple inches but he doesn't need them most of the time.
Positioning - Sometimes he gets to caught up on the thought of getting his mangly hands all over the ball that he forgets hes left a portion of his goal exposed. Glove seems to have helped a little with this but I digress.
Diving - For someone with 93 diving with a glove, I'd say I'd expect more. Occasionally he'll float like a butterfly but the ball will sting his hands like a bee and it will still go in. Happens to the best of keepers in this game I've noticed, but from the notorious Mangles Nans, I expect more.
Physicality - Now you might be thinking; "Physicality isn't even a keepers stat, why does this matter?". Maignan once got bullied in the air by a 5'7 60 jumping Ndombele at the near post and conceded. Lapses of concentration happen I suppose, but I'll never forget... Never. For having the comes with crosses trait he seems to lack that certain dominance in the box some keepers possess and where you might expect him to catch the ball, he'll sometimes be bullied into a punch, parry, or just completely wiff it. It is what it is. He gets a 1 for this category.
Dribbling and Shooting - He's a keeper that's not Hero Jorge Campos. What can you expect.
he is one of the worst keepers this fifa, shared with aerola
man is scared of the ball and he plays like he has no control of his arms
it feels like he want you to lose
he constantly gets like a 5 or lower cuz he is so bad
and on the ball he is even worse, i am always scared if he has the ball cuz his passing is the worst thing i have ever seen
his positioning is the biggest scam ever, i think ea messed up the numbers and mean 48 instead of 84, he always leaves the nearpost exposed and gives free goals away like that
