TOTW 10 brings an international break. Several big names performed with several mismatches being played. A Liverpool trio features alongside Lukaku’s four goals, Coman’s performance in a 14-0 drubbing and an El Classico performance to remember for Bonmati.
Carlos Miguel Coronel - GK - 72 > 83 OVR
Five saves and clean sheet / Chile 0 - Paraguay 0 / 8.4 Sofascore Rating
I’ve never been a fan of international breaks but one thing tops them all and that's selecting the goalkeeper. Yet again it could be anyone with none standing out. I have opted for Paraguay’s Coronel who made five saves in a feisty 0-0.
Stefan de Vrij - CB - 82 > 85 OVR
Assist and clean sheet / Netherlands 1 - Ireland 0 / 7.8 Sofascore Rating
The Netherlands picked up a crucial three points in their qualifying campaign, meaning they only need a point against hapless Gibraltar to confirm their spot. De Vrij provided the assist on the solitary goal which I can see being enough for the Dutchman’s place in the side.
Philipp Lienhardt - CB - 79 > 86 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Estonia 0 - Austria 2 / 7.9 Sofascore Rating
This one was a toss-up between both Lienhardt and Alaba and it really could go either way. I needed a lower-rated goal so I could include another featured upgrade which is the reason I swayed towards Lienhardt in the end.
Ronald Araujo - RB - 86 > 87 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / Argentina 0 - Uruguay 2 / 7.8 Sofascore Rating
Although Araujo received a rather mediocre match rating the Uruguayan was still among the first names on my side this week. With an imposing win over Argentina, I fully expect an Uruguayan option and with a goal and a clean sheet, Araujo is the obvious candidate.
Federico Chiesa - LM - 84 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Italy 5 - 0 North Macedonia 2 / 8.5 Sofascore Rating
With a slow start for the Italians, a result against NM was crucial. They picked up the three points thus setting up a likely crunch fixture with Ukraine. Chiesa scored twice from LM which could see another 86-rated option for him.
Dominik Szoboszlai - CAM - 82 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Hungary 3 - Montenegro 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
I hope no one opted for an Evo Szoboszlai as you will almost instantly be disappointed. The Hungarian played a huge role during Hungary’s 3-1 win over Montenegro as they confirmed qualification in style.
Aitana Bonmati - CM - 90 > 91 OVR
One goal, one assist / Barcelona (W) 5 - Real Madrid (W) 0 / 9 Sofascore Rating
Once again we are going with Bonmati to feature, it was the turn of the Women’s El Classico and Barcelona once again showed their dominance. This time with a 5-0 win to go 9 wins from 9 for the season. Bonmati ran the show in the middle while recording both a goal and an assist.
Kingsley Coman - RM - 85 > 87 OVR
Two goals, one assist / France 14 - Gibraltar 0 / 8 L’equipe Rating
France recorded their biggest win in history with a ridiculous 14 goals without response. Should there be pre-qualification for this tournament, probably yes. Mbappe managed six goal contributions but after featuring last week we must look elsewhere. Coman is the obvious candidate having received the second-highest match rating from L’equipe.
Luiz Diaz - LM - 84 > 86 OVR
Two goals / Colombia 2 - Brazil 1 / 9.3 Sofascore Rating
What a moment it was for both Diaz and his father, with the Colombian’s brace meaning a lot to both parties. The Liverpool winger was at his very best on Friday evening and is a lock for this side.
Romelu Lukaku - ST - 84 > 87 OVR
Four goals / Belgium 5 - Azerbaijan 0 / 10 Sofascore Rating
Belgium topped their group with a routine 5-0 home win over Azerbaijan. Lukaku scored the first four of their goals which will result in another upgrade for the Belgian come Wednesday.
Mohamed Salah - ST - 89 > 91 OVR
Four goals / Egypt 6 - Djibouti 0 / MOTM
A thord 91 Salah looks to be around the corner with the differential of a striker position looking likely. When Egypt records a convincing win it's always likely that Salah will be heavily involved and that was exactly the case here.
Substitutes
Joakim Maehle - RB - 77 > 83 OVR
One goal / Denmark 2 - Slovenia 1 / 7.1 Sofascore Rating
A very average rating was achieved by Maehle but with a decisive goal in a top-of-the-group clash with Slovenia. In turn secured qualification I can see that being overlooked, especially considering the lack of options for EA to select from during an international week.
Otabek Shukurov - CDM - 71 > 83 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Turkmenistan 1 - Uzbekistan 3 / MOTM
This one could easily go under the radar, but there are a few times you will see a CDM involved in the game's attacking side. Having a say in all three Uzbekistan goals, Shukurov ensured his national side picked up three points from their opening WC qualifier.
Lauren James - LM - 83 > 86 OVR
Three goals, one assist / Chelsea (W) 5 - Liverpool (W) 1 / 10 Sofascore Rating
With the high calibre of options available this week James only manages the bench but she should be locked in for this week's side after being involved in four Chelsea goals. The female side of the game gets better and better every week with yet another meta option here.
Lukas Haraslin - LW - 76 > 81 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Slovakia 4 - Iceland 2 / 9.8 Sofascore Rating
Slovakia confirmed their European qualification with a 4-2 win over Iceland. Sparta Prague’s Haraslin was phenomenal down the left-hand flank, scoring twice alongside providing an assist.
Ayase Ueda - ST - 73 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Japan 5 - Myanmar 0 / 9.5 Sofascore Rating
International fixtures often provide mismatches and this is one of them. Japan are one of the elite few when it comes to Asian football so qualifying is often a breeze for them. They opened their campaign with a 5-0 home win from which Ueda bagged himself a hat trick.
Karim Konate - ST - 67 > 83 OVR
Two goals, two assists / Ivory Coast 9 - Seychelles 0 / MOTM
Another ridiculous scoreline occurred here with Ivory Coast notching nine without reply. Konate was involved directly in four of those goals and looked to be the best in-game option by far from the match.
Gerson Rodrigues - ST - 70 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Luxembourg 4 - Bosnia 1 / 8.5 Sofascore Rating
There were a few upsets this week during European qualifying. One of those came with Luxembourg hammering Bosnia 4-1. Rodrigues scored two of their four which alongside the upset should be enough for his inclusion.
