TOTW 2 Predictions

Last week saw an abundance of possibilities, with big names scoring left, right and centre. This week however is quite the opposite, with competition being a lot thinner, and chances of making the final cut greatly increased throughout.

Starting Eleven

Cech

Let’s kick things off with a seasoned veteran, someone who has been around for years, and despite recent performances, has proven he still has what it takes to play at the top level. Arsenal were at home to Everton on the weekend, and in a game that ended 2-0 to the hosts, things could have gone very differently if not for Cech. A top performance and a range of fantastic saves, ensured the clean sheet, and his spot in this lineup.

Matip

At the start of the season, if somebody had suggested to me that Matip would be the first Liverpool player to make these predictions, I wouldn’t have believed it. This is the crazy world of football though, and a clean sheet topped up with a goal, is usually enough for a Premier League defender to make the cut. Liverpool Best Southampton to maintain their perfect start, and with Matip scoring on the day, he has secured his spot.

Fonte

From two Premier League players, to someone who recently moved away now. Fonte completed his move to Lille in the summer, and he seems to have already found his feet. Lille beat Nantes 2-1 on the weekend, with Fonte putting in a fantastic performance throughout, while also scoring once and assisting the second.

Meunier

We remain in France for our next selection, where Meunier continues where he left off last season. PSG were away to Rennes for their weekend fixture, where during a comfortable 3-1 victory, their superstar strike force failed to find the back of the net. Meunier however was ready to step in, scoring once and assisting another to secure his spot in these predictions.

Bernardo Silva

After Manchester City’s shaky midweek performance in the Champions League, they needed to show the world why they should be feared and bounce back in style. This is exactly what they did, as they demolished Cardiff 5-0. With a goal and an assist from Gundogan, and Mahrez scoring two from the bench, picking a nominee was always going to be a struggle. Silva’s dominating performance from midfield however secured him the man of the match award, while his goal and assist were simply the icing on the cake.

Talisca

Moving into the midfield now, where we find yet another summer transfer continue their fantastic form. Talisca moved from Benfica to Guangzhou Evergrande, and thanks to his 2 goals, 1 assist and near perfect performance, his side took all the points in a 3-2 victory over Jiangsu Suning.

Insigne

Italy is our next destination, where Napoli breezed past Torino with a comfortable 3-1 win. Insigne was a man on fire, scoring twice from his central role and terrorising the defence from start to finish.

Traore

Sunday provided us with a big match from Ligue 1, where Lyon played hosts to Marseille. The game itself provided us with 6 goals, 4 of which went in favour of the hosts. Traore was in sensational form, constantly on the move and providing danger with every step. With the game ending 4-2, and Traore scoring twice, he secures his space on our predictions.

Nakajima

Portugal is our next destination, where Portimonense stole all the points against Vitoria De Guimaraes, with a 86th minute winner. Not only was Nakajima behind the winning goal, but was directly involved in the others. With 2 goals and an assist during the 3-2 victory, he sails into this week’s lineup.

Ben Yedder

It’s rare, very rare, that EA include two players from a single team, but when two players put in such dominating performances, there is simply no possible route that could see one of them excluded from this lineup. Sevilla destroyed Levante 6-2 on the weekend, and with a perfect 10/10 rating on who-scored, a hat-trick and an assist, Ben Yedder is the first name to secure his spot on this list.

Immobile

Our final spot within the starting eleven sees us travelling back to Italy, where Immobile shows that last season was simply the start of something magical. In a game that provided 5 goals, Lazio were comfortable 4-1 winners over Genoa. Immobile was incredible, scoring twice and causing nothing but problems for the oppositions defence.

Substitutes and Reserves

Skorupski

Onto the bench now, and as always, we kick things off with a goalkeeper. Bologna were far from favourites for their match against Roma, yet despite the odds, they fought hard and walked away with a 2-0 victory. Skorupski was the man of the hour, pulling off save after save, ensuring the clean sheet and cementing his name within these predictions.

Zimmerman

We move out of Europe now and head over to the States, where we find LAFC playing hosts to San Jose. It was all one way traffic on the day, with the hosts picking up a comfortable 2-0 win. Zimmerman was the man of the hour, not only did he ensure the clean sheet, but also picked up both the goals, all from his role at centre-back.

Yumlu

Akhisarspor were hosts to Galatasaray for their Sunday fixture, where they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory. There were plenty of standout performances to choose from, however we are going with the centre-back, Yumlu. With a man of the match performance, clean sheet and a goal to his name, he makes his way into our final 23 man squad.

Yiadom

Back across to England now, where we move down from the Premier League to the Championship. Reading were at home to Hull, and it was the hosts who took all the points during a 3-0 victory. Yiadom not only secured his clean sheet, but also assisted once and scored the third and final goal to round up a sensational performance.

Sarabia

So here it is, the big risk amongst these predictions, the second player from the same team. Like we mentioned before; it’s very rare that EA accommodate for this, however with such incredible performances, leaving them out simply makes no sense. During Sevilla’s 6-2 victory over Levante, Sarabia not only scored, but assisted a further 3, while securing a near perfect 9.9 match rating.

Oztekin

Goztepe were away to Trabzonspor for their fixture on Saturday, where only a single goal could separate the two sides. Goztepe took the points in a 2-1 victory, with Oztekin scoring both and showing his quality throughout.

Ibai Gomez

Two weeks in, and two weeks without a single nomination from the top La Liga teams. Luckily for us, plenty of other teams are ready to step up and fill this gap, as demonstrated by Deportivo, during their 5-1 thrashing of Rayo Vallecano on the weekend. Gomez is the man for our predictions, scoring twice and taking the man of the match award too.

Quintero

Usually we require our attacking players to score a couple of goals to make this list, however Quintero is a prime example of what can break this rule. Minnesota United picked up a 3-2 win over Portland on the weekend, and while he may not have scored, his two assists and phenomenal performance are enough to see him make our list.

Wesley

Club Bruges were comfortable 4-0 winners over Gent on Sunday, and there was only one man who could find his way into this list. Wesley may have not scored the first goal, but the second, third and fourth had his name written all over them; and his hat-trick is surely enough to secure him a spot.

Musa

From terrorising FIFA players across the world during his time at Leicester, to banging in goals across the world, Musa has done it all. He once again proved his quality on the weekend during Al Nassr’s 3-0 win over Al Qadasiya. Musa was the man behind each and every goal, once again ensuring he is available to terrorise FIFA players across the globe.

Guanca

We stay in Saudi Arabia for our next pick, where at 90 minutes the scoreline was 1-0, with just a penalty separating Al-Ettifaq and Al Feiha. Guanca was the man who scored from the spot, but was also the man who went on to score in both the 5th minute of stoppage time and the 7th, securing the points with a 3-0 win.

Adamyan

Our final nomination this week comes from the match between Hamburger and the travelling Jahn Regensburg. It was the visitors who took the points with a 5-0 thrashing, and Adamyan was the man behind 3 of those goals, safely securing his place in these predictions.
