TOTW 8 PREDICTIONS

Last week saw some extremely strange selections making the final cut from EA, and some bigger names, with stronger performances missing out. Keeping this in mind, we have tried to include a wide variety of leagues, positions and performances this week, to tick all the boxes that EA seem to use when deciding on the final line-up.

Starting Eleven

Bounou

We kick start these predictions with a trip across to Spain, where a travelling Girona took all 3 points during a 1-0 win against Valencia. Although Girona took the points, it was actually Valencia who were the more dominant side, providing a total of 27 shots across the 90 minutes. Bounou however saw them coming, and was nothing short of heroic from start to finish. Commanding his defence, dominating in the air, and keeping the clean sheet has to have been enough to provide him with his first inform of the campaign.

Ramos

Real Madrid have had anything but a successful campaign so far this year, and with the season fully underway, changes needed to happen sooner rather than later. Luckily it seems that the players also realised this, and despite leaving it late, they took all the points with a 2-0 win over Real Valladolid. Despite this win, very few players really stood out across the 90 minutes, however with the lack of defenders to choose from this week, a clean sheet and goal from the spot for Ramos may just be enough to see him make the cut.

Brosinski

Germany is our next stop this week, where Mainz where hosts to the travelling Werder Bremen for their Bundesliga fixture. Mainz were the team who left with the points, but taking them was anything but simple. The match finished 2-1, and while Brosinski may not have quite managed to secure the clean sheet, he provided the assist for both goals and has worked his way into our shortlist here.

Romagnoli

It’s taken a while, but it seems like AC Milan are starting to find to form this year, and with a challenging test away to Udinese, it was time to show what they were made of. The match was stuck at 0-0, with neither side able to break the deadlock, and this was the case until the last touch of the game. Romagnoli was the hero on the night, scoring the games only goal in the 97th minute and also keeping a clean sheet.

Joao Mario

Italy is our next destination this week, where we find an inform Inter Milan absolutely obliterating the travelling Genoa during a 5-0 win. A game like this naturally provides several possible team of the week selections, but for us the decision was between the two central midfielders. Gagliardini scored twice on the day, however with 2 assists and a goal to his name, Joao Mario is the one who gets the nod here.

Podolski

This man has played all over the world, but no matter where he ends up he always seems to find the back of the net. Vissel Kobe were away to Nagoya for their J-League fixture this week, and Podolski was the man of the hour once again. The match ended 2-1, and just incase you haven’t guessed it, Podolski was the man behind both of these.

Felipe Anderson

Across to the Premier League now, where we find our selections for both right and left midfielders. On the left we have Felipe Anderson, with a possible second inform already this year, and a second upgrade to his OTW card. West Ham and Burnley went head to head on Saturday, in a game that provided fans with a total of 6 goals. The game was up and down, but West Ham were too much to handle in the end, securing the points with a 4-2 win. Felipe Anderson was once again sensational, scoring twice and terrorising the opposition throughout.

Sterling

Competition towards the top of the Premier League is fiercer than ever, and with three teams still unbeaten so far this year, the slightest mistake can make the world of difference. Sadly for the competition, Manchester City already know this and once again proved just how dangerous they are and why they should be considered as favourites to lift the trophy again. City brushed aside Southampton in a straightforward 6-1 win on Sunday, and despite Aguero putting in one hell of a performance, our nomination has to fall on Sterling. With 2 goals, 2 assists and a near perfect match from start to finish, it would be nothing short of a crime to see this man miss out this week.

Belotti

When it comes to selecting players to feature within the team of the week, EA have made it clear that they like a bit of diversity. Now while I really believe that Belotti is deserving of an inform this week, the fact that Joao Mario and Mertens already feature within this starting eleven really worries me. Torino picked up a very comfortable 4-1 victory away to Sampdoria on the weekend, and with 2 goals and an assist, leaving Belotti out based on the other players we have included, would just feel wrong.

Mertens

We remain in Italy now, where Napoli played hosts to Empoli for their Serie A fixture. The game itself provided fans with a total of 6 goals, but sadly for the travelling supporters, 5 of these were in favour of the hosts. Napoli won the match 5-1, and despite several solid performances across the team, there is only one man who could make the cut. Mertens provided an assist, and scored not one, not two, but three goals to secure his hat-trick and with it, his first inform of the year.

Werner

For our final selection within the starting eleven we head across to Germany, where we find a possible second inform awaiting a young German striker by the name of Werner. Leipzig were away to Hertha Berlin for their late kick-off Bundesliga clash this week, and once again they showed the dominant force they can be. They left with all the points in a 3-1 win, with Werner scoring twice and terrorising the oppositions defence from start to finish. The only question left to answer would be, is this enough?

Substitutes and Reserves

Farnolle

Onto the substitutes and reserves now, and as usual we kick start these selections with another goalkeeper. Malatyaspor were away to Alanyaspor for their match this week, and despite the onslaught and domination shown by the hosts, it just wasn’t their day. The visitors took all the points during the 1-0 victory, while Farnolle is the man who deserves all the credit. With a total of 18 shots against his goal, 6 saves from open play and even one from the spot, excluding this man would be nothing short of a crime.

Epureanu

Istanbul Basaksehir played host to Besiktas for their match this weekend, where they managed to edge out a victory by the narrowest of margins. There was one man on the pitch who excelled in every area of the pitch, solid defensively, brilliant moving the ball forward, and even fantastical when finishing. Epureanu not only kept the clean sheet, but also scored the games only goal, which in a week where finding defenders is near impossible, could very well be more than enough.

Chester

We head back to England now, however it isn’t the Premier League that has our attention here. Aston Villa played host to Bolton for their Championship fixture, and in a comfortable 2-0 win there was one man who really stood out. Chester lead from the back, putting in one hell of a defensive performance, and also provided a goal for his club. We know that EA don’t pay quite as much attention to the lower leagues, but this performance is deserving of an upgrade.

Miranchuk

With the distinct lack of Russian clubs available in the game due to licensing, when one of the clubs featuring within the Champions League has a stand out performance, it would be foolish to let them slip through unnoticed. Lokomotiv Moscow picked up all three points with a 3-1 victory over Arsenal Tula on the weekend. Miranchuk was simply spectacular from the midfield, scoring twice and causing all sorts of trouble for the opposition throughout.

Leitgeb

When an attacker scores a hat-trick, it instantly becomes incredibly difficult to leave that player out of these predictions. So when a defensive midfielder achieves this feat, it would be absolutely unacceptable to even consider taking this route of action. Wolfsberger AC were comfortable 3-1 winners over Austria Wien on the weekend, and just incase I wasn’t clear enough before, Leitgeb was the scorer of each and every one of them.

Guzman

From a sensational hat-trick mentioned above, it becomes extremely difficult to find a performance more deserving of a spot amongst the elite. With this being said, we have not one, but two players who managed to break this barrier and score four goals in their independant matches this week. Pachuca pulled off a 6-2 win against Necaxa on the weekend, and with four goals from a central role, Guzman has to have guaranteed his spot in the final line-up.

Jordan

Back across to Spain now, where Eibar took all the points with a 2-1 victory over Deportivo Alaves. Now there were plenty of fantastic performances across the midfield, with multiple goals and assists obtained by a whole heap of players. Jordan was one of those players, not only did he play a near perfect match for the hosts, but he also assisted once and scored the second to wrap up the win.

Higuain

With the MLS playoffs in full swing, I fully expect to see at least one player feature within this line-up. There were plenty of stand out performances to choose from as well, such as Moralez with 1 goal and 2 assists, or Valeri with 2 goals. Our selection however goes with Higuain, the man behind both goals during Columbus's 2-2 draw with DC United, and also one of the heroes who managed to convert from the spot and help secure the victory.

Richarlison

How many of you saw the starting eleven, realised that Richarlison wasn’t included, and panicked? Well, fear not fellow OTW lovers, as he may have not made the initial 11 but he secures his spot on the bench. Everton were 3-1 winners over Brighton on the weekend, and with two goals under his belt, Richarlison was the clear man of the match. Just in case this card didn’t carry enough potential, if he makes EA’s final cut, we are going to see an exciting position change to striker too.

Eder

Eder is a man who has featured recently amongst our predictions, and while EA may have disagreed with our nomination then, hopefully this time things will be different. Jiangsu Suning were comfortable 3-1 winners over Hebei CFFC on the weekend, and with Eder scoring twice and assisting the third, surely he has done enough to make the cut this time.

Edouard

The variety of leagues covered within these predictions is nothing short of incredible, and this trend continues as we head across to Scotland for our next selection. Celtic were comfortable 5-0 winners against Hearts on the weekend, and with 2 goals and 1 assist, Edouard is the man who breaks through and storms into our predictions.

Schaffler

Our final selection this week is where we find our second player who managed the incredible feat of four goals from a single game. Wehen were away to Fortuna Koran for their weekend fixture, and in a display of dominance they left with all 3 points in a 7-0 win. Schaffler led from the front, and as mentioned above scored over 50% of these goals, and has surely done enough to see his name in lights amongst the FIFA community.
