La Liga Team of the Season (TOTS) Predictions FIFA 23

With Barcelona currently sitting eleven points clear at the top of La Liga it comes as no surprise to see our TOTS prediction dominated by the club. In general, this looks to be one of the better sides with big names left right, and center.

Ter Stegen - GK - 88 > 95 OVR

La Liga has a plethora of world-class keepers which is part of the reason so many clubs have conceded fewer goals than games this season. The current record is 18 goals conceded in one season, set by Deportivo in 1993/4 and Ter Stegen could be set to break that with just nine goals conceded with 8 games to go. Despite the likes of Courtois and Oblak in the division can you argue against Ter Stegen here?

Ronald Araujo - CB - 83 > 93 OVR

Should both my predicted central defenders end up making EA’s side we could be looking at the best TOTS duo in FIFA history. Araujo missed eight matches through injury which has limited his minutes this season but with the Uruguayan expected to play the remaining fixtures, it will result in enough minutes for his inclusion in this side. He has excelled at the back and has become a fan favourite in doing so.

Eder Militao - CB - 84 > 94 OVR

There were doubts about Militao when he first joined Madrid with the Brazilian struggling to break into the side. He has proved every doubter wrong now though developing into one of the best central defenders worldwide. His FIFA card is also highly sought after making him a fan favourite for any promotion EA holds. Madrid has a very respectable defensive record with just 24 conceded from 30 matches. Militao has also provided at the other end finding himself on the scoresheet on four occasions. He easily makes his way into this side.

Jules Kounde - RB - 84 > 93 OVR

When you see Barcelona’s defensive record you would expect a set defence that continues to excel together but that's the complete opposite of what they have done this season. Several players have rotated at the back with the central players especially consistently fighting for a spot. For that reason. Kounde has been fantastic for Barcelona despite not playing in his preferred CB role, making the RB position his own.

Pedri - CM - 85 > 95 OVR

I still find it hard to envision a successful Barcelona midfield without the likes of Iniesta and Xavi at the heart of it but at just 20 years of age, Pedri has become a crucial part of their team and in just over a decade the same could easily be said about Pedri himself. Barcelona have walked their way to the title this season so it will be no surprise to see this side dominated by them.

Frenkie De Jong - CM - 87 > 95 OVR

Frenkie De Jong struggled to settle in at Barcelona when originally joining the Spanish giants but his position is well and truly nailed down now. The Dutchman often finds himself controlling games with his sublime passing ability in the middle of the park. Although attacking contributions have been few and far between for De Jong his performances should not go unnoticed and is almost guaranteed to make this side.

Federico Valverde - CM - 84 > 94 OVR

Although Valverde’s performances have dropped off during the second half of the season I feel he has still done enough to make the shortlist and from that is likely to be voted in. He could feature at either CM or RW but with performances being stronger down the middle I feel that CM will be the eventual position.

Vinicius Junior - LW - 86 > 96 OVR

Everyone is now aware of the level Vinicius possesses and without a doubt will become one of the best in the world. This season although respectable has been slightly underwhelming at times. The Brazilian has done more than enough to make this side but with just nine goals and six assists, he has not reached the level which many expected of him this season. With fan votes swaying EA’s final selection, there is no possibility that we fail to see a Vini TOTS.

Antoine Griezmann - ST - 83 > 95 OVR

Griezmann has not been shy of a special card this season with seven different card variants to his name so far. Another will likely be on the way during TOTS with the Frenchman standing out for Atletico throughout. He has played various roles but with the majority of his minutes coming from an ST role I would expect that to be his eventual position.

Karim Benzema - ST - 91 > 97 OVR

The reigning Ballon d’Or winner was always likely to feature in his retrospective league TOTS. Still, injury issues have plagued Benzema this season with muscle problems occurring regularly. While fit Benzema has continued to bang the goals, scoring fourteen from the twenty matches he has managed. The minutes do impact his chance but there have been some highly controversial ones in the past so I see no real reason why Benzema would fail to make this side.

Robert Lewandowski - ST - 91 > 97 OVR

Although Lewandowski is not reaching the heights of his record of Munich he still leads the golden boot race for La Liga, which in your debut season is impressive regardless of stature and numbers. With 17 goals and 6 assists from his 26 appearances Lewandowski has almost recorded an attacking return every match. With no TOTY to limit his overall the Polish forward will likely become one of the highest-rated players in the game upon his inclusion.

Substitutes

Ledesma - GK - 80 > 91 OVR

The starting goalkeeper choice is an obvious choice with Ter Stegen being nailed on and while we are far from guaranteed a substitute keeper if any division is going to receive one it will be La Liga. Cadiz would have been destined for relegation had it not been for Ledesma who on numerous occasions has single-handedly kept Cadiz in the match.

Reinildo - LB - 79 > 91 OVR

This was a difficult call between both Reinildo and Foyth. The deciding factor in the end for me was Foyth’s minutes with just 16 starts to his name I had to opt for Reinildo instead. Atletico has the second-best defensive record in the division so it makes sense for at least one of their defenders to feature, Reinildo has been fantastic down the left-hand side, shown by the fact he has two IF’s despite obtaining no attacking returns.

Alex Balde - LB - 68 > 89 OVR

Xavi has given several youngsters a chance to show their capability throughout the season but one player especially has taken that chance with both hands. Alex Balde has developed into a dependable first-team starter with Barcelona. Their defensive record is practically immaculate with just nine goals conceded and with five assists to his name too Balde is doing damage at both ends of the pitch. A name to remember for years to come and will likely join the TOTY debate in a few seasons' time maximum.

Merino - CM - 83 > 91 OVR

Sociedad are in a great position to secure that 4th Champions League position and should they manage it you would fully expect a couple of inclusions into this side. Merino has to be one of their favourites to do so, currently leading the assist charts with eight. The Spaniard regularly unlocks defences and looks set to pick up his first-ever TOTS card.

Gabriel Veiga - CM - 61 > 90 OVR

La Liga is anything but short of young talent but one you perhaps don’t know much about is Gabriel Veiga. It’s been a breakthrough campaign for the 20-year-old, who started FIFA as a 61-rated non-rare bronze. A player of the Month award took him up to an 86-rated item. With nine goals and six assists to his name a TOTS could also be on the horizon.

Iago Aspas - ST - 85 > 92 OVR

Aspas does so much more for his club than simply score goals. The Spaniard regularly claims MOTM for Celta Vigo and has played a pivotal role for them other the past few seasons. With fifteen goal contributions, Aspas has been directly involved in just under half of Vigo’s total goals this season. EA like awarding Aspas special items and although he is a fringe option I feel he sneaks in again here.

Enes Unal - ST - 78 > 90 OVR

There are several fringe striker options from La Liga this season with Unal, Joselu, Iglesias and Muriqi all finding themselves on early double figures. Whoever EA decide to go with will likely end up being the objective card. My best guess at the player is Unal, who currently has 13 goals, putting him third in the golden boot race behind both expected names.
