Player Review

I purchased Obiang on bid for 12k shortly after his release which I have to say is a friggin bargain. I have a pretty stacked Premier League team and had been using a loan version of prime Patrick Viera until he finally expired. I had previously used Idrissia Gana Gueye as one of 2 holding mids in my squad (because he has much better stats than bakayoko, sorry guys) but have always felt he really lacked in solid passing and a decent shot. And whilst I don't really encourage CDMs to push up, there are times when you need that outlet, particularly on a rapid counter, which is how my team plays.
The major things that drew me to this card were his fantastic passing stats, his abnormally high composure, solid agility (which is imperative if you want to stop tricky players getting around you) and reasonable shooting stats. In fact compared to both Bakayoko and Gueye, these stats are much better (with the exception of agility on Gueye). When you're trying to move the ball around, or distribute quickly after a tackle/interception, you really need good composure and passing to turn that defence in to offence without immediately turning the ball over or misplacing a pass. And that shot power means that you feel comfortable putting faith in Obiang when you don't have any other option than to shoot.
It's important to note that I used an Anchor Chem style which I feel makes this card so effective. High defensive stats and physicality are noticeable with Obiang, combined with a very handy 6'1" height. The difference in defending stats for the other two guys i mentioned is more or less negligible when you use this chem style. And he still performs very well. If you're still not convinced do a comparison with the total stats of Obiang, Gueye and Bakayoko and you'll see that for 12k, the massive gulf in stats you gain is well worth it.
In short, give him a go. For 12k (probably less now with TOTY in full swing) you get a lot of player and he should do the business for you quietly and without fuss. If he does his job well then you probably won't notice him at all, and that's the mark of a truly effective CDM.
- Distribution (Passing)
- Composure
- Agility
- Height
- Defending
- Stamina (not an issue if you stay back while attacking)
- Shooting (not really a negative, but he isn't exactly ronaldo is he - it's just adequate)
