Player Review

The short answer: Yes.

The longer one... well, let me explain.

The Pros

Defending. I immediately slapped an anchor chem style on him, as his pace with high-medium work rate is not that good. But more of that later! With the new chem style his defending jumped up to 99 almost so yeah, no problems there! Heading, interceptions, standing and slide tackles, everything was really good! No problems there.

Strength at 95 is a stat that always good on a defender because he would be like an egg smashing onto a rock if he comes up against, lets say, a Lukaku. So no problems there, his aggression is 76 its not good but not bad also, i just mentioned it as it's one of the key stats that if its paired up with the strength stat, can make a perfect card.

Now, as a defender he has 80 short, 85 long passing so you can easily get the ball out of the back and it will not just fly randomly but to your players' feet! So i suggest you all that after a successful tackle start a quick counter attack with Hummels sending the ball towards your striker/wingers because he WILL find them with it!

Lastly his reaction(85) and composure(91). With this high stats he never looses his cool, always going in for the tackle at the best time (except if you spam the B button). Also he usually dived into the way of shots by himself and did some insane tackle which would be fault with other defenders!

The Cons

His speed. He needs that anchor or shadow chem style. He must has it, otherwise he will struggle to catch up with the attackers.

And why that may be, you ask, if his positioning as a defender is high? Well, the work rates. High attack, medium defending. It is good if the defender is fast, like Ramos(90) but not if it is "slow" like Hummels. It's good for interceptions as he will be higher up the pitch to intercept the opponent's trough balls and driven passes. But not good if you are caught outside of position which can happen, if you lets say, go up attacking or ultra attack. If you do that, Hummels WILL rush forward!

The last con is his stamina at 66. As most of the defenders has the same it can be called as average but... no. I won't call it that, its bad. Its baaaaad, no matter where you look it from. When a defender goes shoulder to shoulder it drains his stamina like a sith draining life force from a jedi. Gone, *puff*, goes to smoke like my fifa points when 100k packs are out.

The summary

Is he 88 rated? Yes. Is he as good as Boateng? No. But he doesn't cost as much too. He goes around the 40k mark when i write this review (xbox one) which is around the right amount he worth. Tbh i like him more than Sokratis(86), as i used both beside my Boateng and Sokratis may have better stats with some chem styles but... i don't know why, Hummels made more tackles and less mistakes! Yes, i was very skeptical with his card, so it was a pleasant surprise! He replaced Sokratis for me and may work for you too.

Oh, i almost forgot, to not mess up your defensive line, always pay attention his CB partner's work rate! Do not use him with a medium-high or low-high defender partner as they will affect each other and there are going to be BIG gaps! Use it with another high-medium or medium-medium, thats very important!
