I don't understand this game at all

What is a player rating? What does it Mean? How do they come up with the rating? How does the rating impact how they play? Why does my keeper seems so intent on betraying me?

If you've ever asked yourself this question it's likely because you have Nick Pope in goal.

87 rated and about as useful as recycled toilet paper.

If someone can explain to me how keepers actually function in this game that would be great, because as far as I can tell there is no rhyme or reason as to how they perform. De Gea? His 90 rated is godly, 91, not so much.

Begovic 81? Literally one of the best in the game. Costs 1000 coins or so.

This guy. THIS FUCKING GUY! Why, why does he play so badly, he never saves anything. I have tried every chem style, even boosted him with a training card. Same result. You know that trick where you can get the keeper to cover the far post by clicking the right thumb stick? Pointless.

These mugs at EA Sports need to sort this nonsense out. I'm stuck with this untradeable turkey and I have half a mind to discard him and go back to using my inform Joe Hart.

JOE FUCKING HART, ARE YOU READING THIS! I AM SAYING THAT JOE HART IS BETTER THAN THIS GUY AND HE'S BANG AVERAGE.

If you want to smash your controller in disgust and question why you keep putting yourself through the torture of this game then get Pope, I promise he will deliver on this front. Otherwise, just use literally anyone else.
