86 - Icon

86 Gullit, actually great value for coins
By mitisz, 28-01-2018

I was very hesitant to buy 86 Gullit because he seemed to have a not so great reputation, I think mainly because of his price and stamina.

After trying and looking for other cards, I was considering: Nainggolan (great, but height is an issue), IF Bonaventura (who I love as a CAM, not so much as CM), Pogba (defending lets him down as a CM, balance is bad), SIF Milinkovic-Savic (balance problem and inconsistent), Hamsik (bad defending and weak), Vidal (good at everything but not amazing for me). My latest team needed an icon link. I tried Blanc and Desailly as far as icons go, both very good but I felt something was lacking. I was looking at 86 Vieira but his dribbling and shooting put me off. I'm sure he is a great CDM but I was looking for an allrounder CM.

Then I was considering TOTY Modric for the same price, I used him in the draft, and the card was good but for me wasn't worth 1.2 million. He is a very good CAM but IMO doesn't cut it as a CM (for the price). Since then I've purchased TOTY Marcelo, I move him to CM (Matuidi goes to LB with shadow) and he is much much better there than Modric. The Croatian has good stats but he is not faster than Gullit and additionally is very very weak for the midfield battles which Gullit shines in.

Since buying 86 Gullit he has been great for me. Running with Hunter he has consistent finishing and delicious longshots in his locker. I think the only replacement I'll consider is his prime, he is by far the best CM I have tried so far. Very imposing in the middle with his height and in-game model. He is tall and wins every header. In attack he is a very good shooter and an impeccable passer. Great dribbler especially for his size, I was very surprised how good his LS dribbling and his first touch is. Close control is also good with LT+RT. Of course another great thing about the card is the links to everybody. And he has even more... 5WF, amazing composure, really good defending and physical. His stamina (78) is on par with the majority of the non-IF CMs, and I think his stamina has been overreacted in the community, for me it's not an issue especially combined with his workrates (M/M). I only need to sub him out if the game goes to extra time. 3 SM IMO not a con as a CM, if you play him at CAM that is a slight negative.

I use him mainly as a RCM in the linked squad, after a formation change to 4-1-2-1-2. I think this card has genuinely no weaknesses as a CM, maybe his workrates (M/M), but I don't mind that because for me he seems to be sitting back when I use him as a CDM, and he seems to be chill upfront where he needs to be when he is in more advanced positions. Also FUTMAS Fubinho and TOTY Marcelo is always covering for him in my team if he doesn't track back, so I think he is best used with other good allrounder CMs. So workrates are actually didn't really matter for me with this card. With Hunter chemstyle he has played CDM, CM, CAM and ST for me and he has been performed immensely in all of those positions. His in-game model is a huge advantage which can't be reflected in in-game stats (height/weight and chunky body and big stature). And oh my those dreadlocks... Also I'm a Milan fan so that's an added cool factor for me.

I know he is expensive, but after playing with him for a decent amount of games, I think 86 Gullit is actually good value for money if you are looking for a game-changer CM.

Very much recommended!

  • Good Pace
  • Consistent shooting
  • Impeccable passing
  • Imposing in-game model
  • Can't be beaten in the air
  • Awesome dribbling especially for his size
  • 5* WF
  • Composure
  • Defending
  • Strength
  • Agility for his size
  • First touch, close-control
  • Vision
  • No real weaknesses (perfect CM)
  • Wins every midfield battle
  • Extra-time he might need a sub
  • 3* if you use him as CAM/ST
  • M/M workrates if you don't have other good defensive CMs in your team

I wanted to try this guy for a long time, so my expectations where high. And he did not disappoint.

I played him both as a CDM and as a CAM, but he was so much better in the offensive role with a hunter card applied. Hes positioning, strength and passing i so good. Once you get this man on the ball, no one willl get him off it. His pace is good, his finishing is so much better than 76 and overall he is a really overpowered player. One of the best Ive used this year.

Now that this guy is 930k (01.03.18) I will say his worth the extra money.

  • Strength
  • Size, just his presence on the pitch
  • Posistioning
  • Passing
  • Shooting
  • Can play multiple positions
  • Lacks a little stamina, but this is a small one

Beware!

Gullit was my first expensive Icon(over 1 Million). What I didnt consider was, however, the tax I have to pay when selling him. Im not Fifa rich, so it is really frustrating to lose 70k of my hard earned money on taxes. Why Im telling you this? Because you should really be convinced that a player of that cost will be your gamechanger, otherwise you are definitely better of dividing the money on a few good players. Unfortunately, Gullit was by no means a gamechanger for me. Maybe I played him to defensive(CDM in 4231), cause Danilo Pereira was much better for me in this role and costs only 1/10 of Gullit. However, he has some major flaws, which will also show in a more offensive role.

+Overall passing, his passes were precise, apart from corner kicks

+Strength, you could easily shield the ball with him

-Defense, I played him with Backbone, however he often wasnt in good position defensive wise and did not tackle well. Maybe its his low aggression

-Pace, didnt feel like 80 pace

-Longshots(most disappointing attribute tbh, did not score one for me)

-Corner kicks(his corners were worse than Pogbas or Rui Costas, before Ruud I scored regularly after corner kicks, with Ruud, never and I had the same players heading the ball then before)

-Stamina(If you use him to run and fill the holes in your defensive, he has no fuel in his tank from the 70th minute onwards)

-Sluggish, Dribbling was not good enough for his stats

Dissapointment
By ScottlaFlame, 08-02-2018

I was super exited to buy baby version of Gullit, the better version of which is an essantial card in every pro's squad. To my disappointment he didn't meat my expectations not even remotly close. I've played about 30 games with him on different positions CAM, CDM, CM and he had very little impact on the game both defensively or offensive. He feels slow even with the hunter chem style and gets outrunned and bullied a lot even when his fresh and after about 70 minutes i used to sub him off because his stamina is awful and he gets tired pretty fast. In those 30 games he scored 5 goals for me most of them were inbox headers I've been trying to score dozens of longshots but most of them didn't hit the target. On the positives though he is a very good passer and very good in the air. When you goal kick towards him he will win the ball 99% of the time. He also stands out a lot on a pitch with his haircut and opponent try to shut him down by any means because they thing his good. So he's a good at intimidating at least. You're paying most of the price for his name. As a player he is average. Replaced him with IF tolisso and he feels a lot better than gullit did

The beast?
By Psyllos9, 14-02-2018

So .... I've just read the comments on Gullit in this thread, and I had to add a comment on him. First and foremost, it is important to note that Gullit is an incredible player in this game. In 270 games, he has scored 182 goals and provided 104 assists from a RCM position in a 4-1-2-1-2. What makes him so incredibly good is he composure on the ball and his attacking positioning. He is almost always free when building up play, and rarely losses the ball.

Low drivens inside the box are a goal 9/10 times, and his weakfoot finishing is ridiculously good. Likewise, he is the type of player, where you sometimes desperately take on a long shot, and he will fire the ball into the back of the net.

  • Weakfoot
  • Finishing
  • Passing
  • Positioning
  • Long shots
  • Workrates (for CM position)
  • Stamina (but not a problem if you are constantly sprinting around the pitch with him)
  • 3* skills if you are a skiller (3 is sufficient for me).
