92 - SIF
5.0
The Marksman
By spind0octa, 12-02-2018

I was excited for this card, mainly because I have used NIF Higuain for a long time and believe he is one of the best cards in the game. He always gets a bad rap from other players, possibly because of his pace.

Firstly I should say, what an insane price for a card like this. A 92 rated player for 350k at time of writing is great value. Again, probably because of his pace, but if you can get the hang of this card effectively, it's not an issue. If you're after after a speedster to run onto through balls, turn away now. Higuain is a strong and clincal striker who is a beast in the air, on holding up balls and clinical finishing. Run him alongside a fast poacher type player or in front of an attacking clinical CAM

For this card I recommend a Marksman chemistry style and will address his stats with Marksman

  • PACE; let's start with the elephant in the room. 82 pace isn't great, but this isn't the type of player to play through balls to and to blaze past defenders. It's certainly serviceable, and it feels like a decent upgrade on his NIF
  • SHOOTING; this is probably the most important stat. 99 positioning, volleys, positioning, finishing and shot power, with 95 long shots. It quite literally doesn't get any better than this, this is icon level finishing, press B to score. He has a great finesse shot but can just as easily power them into the top corner. I don't recommend low driven necessarily, he's got a lot more in his locker than that
  • PASSING; again, noticeably better than his NIF, Higuain does a lot of passing as he'll be the focal point of your attacks but his vision feels much stronger now, letting him make those through balls to wingers or his strike partner
  • DRIBBLING; due to his pace you're not going to go past players but this is important for stopping low driven passes and holding off defenders, and there's no one better in the game
  • DEFENDING; mostly irrelevant but due to his size and strength he can do a job intercepting and tackling simply due to his size
  • PHYSICAL; this is really important and this card upgrades his strength to unstoppable levels. He can now hold off basically anyone with ease and with 93 jumping and the latest patch he really is a handful
  • Price; you're getting a Prime MVB for less than half the price with better work rates and tradeable
  • Strength; an absolute beast who can shrug off even the Baillys of this world
  • Jumping; noticeably better than his NIF
  • Finishing; some of the best in the game and 4* WF

Overall, Higuains 2IF elevates him to icon level as a target man. A fun and different card to use for any Serie A player

  • Pace, but not a dealbreaker as he doesn't need it
  • Stamina if you press defenders, leave him on Default interceptions

A bit disappointed
By matfalko, 12-02-2018

I don't know, I have mixed feelings about this guy. Played him as ST in a 4-2-3-1 with 3 CAMs behind him (Mertens, Bonaventura, Dybala).

He seems to be a beast in the box because every ball he receives and has some clear goal space he transforms in a goal. But that's it. Unfortunately his speed needs to be compensated and his physicality is not close to other top strikers (for example Lewandowski, who is much more expensive too).

Through balls are not an easy way to score with him as he will always struggle against strong, sweaty CBs in a sprint or in a fight for the ball. You really need to make your team work for him to create the best clear chance in the box.

Apart from finishing his heading is quite strong too. He finds the best positioning in the box and scored a couple of corners for me as well.

Dribbling is ok, but lower values of agility and balance tend to make him look clunky in close spaces. After some games I was rather playing one-twos than trying to overcome the direct marking defender.

Played around 50 games changing chem styles (Hunter, Catalyst, Engine, Hawk) to see if something changes in his performance but unfortunately you can't compensate every gap. You need to give up on some stats in favor of some speed or dribbling.

I'm quite disappointed as I was hoping to have found my striker for ages after long time but maybe he doesn't suit my gamestyle. You might have better luck than me.

  • Finishing
  • Heading
  • Positioning in the box
  • Lack of speed
  • Not the best physicality
  • Dribbling feels quite stiff
  • Passing could be better
