Pires isn't Human
By zbolland, 27-12-2017

As someone who has used multiple icons, Pires is easily one of the best. I had previously used 88 Pires and decided to sell him in order to complete the SBC for 91 Pires. I was contentious about this, as they seemed to have similar stats, however Pires proved his worth. Pires is easily visible on the pitch, he is easy to distinguish due to his long lucious hair and height. He has a presence on the pitch, off the ball and on the ball. Pires creates phenomenal runs and is a provider as well as a giver.

Pires scores many goals (92) and distributes the ball fantastically. When he's on the ball, he just feels naturally amazing. Although he has 64 physicality, due to his height he goes through defenders like it’s no body’s business. Defenders struggle to shove him off the ball and when they do, they receive a card. Pires has a great weak foot, shooting on either food is a mission that is easily accomplished by the Frenchman. His skill moves compliment his playing style. He is agile and has a special playing style.

Pires doesn’t necessarily have the best heading accuracy or jumping, yet he jumps up like a fish out of water and scores a goal every few games from the corner. His stamina is not a problem, I’ve never had to take him off the pitch, even if he starts with low fitness.

When it comes to set pieces, Pires is great. He’s scored off tactical set pieces about 5 times and scores penalties with ease. He has the best penalties statistic in my team.

Pires is an underrated Prime Icon. Pires is definitely worth the money and is a key player in my team.

CAM Masterclass
By FUTOpinion, 19-12-2017

When I first saw this card I was doubtful. I ended up paying 450k for him, with nothing in my club. Whilst the price is steep, you're getting a very versatile icon who's high rating also makes him eligible for other icon sbc's. I started Pires in a 4-3-2-1 at LF and switched to a 4-1-2-1-2 in game with Piers at CAM behind SBC Promes and SBC Icon Hernandez. What a player! If his price drops below 500 I wouldn't think twice before snapping him up.

  • Driblling - The main pro here. Pires is able to glide around challenges and effortlessly sweep past onrushing opponents. His control is mesmeric, and when coupled with his agility makes him incredible.
  • Pace - 88 Pace is more than enough for a winger, let alone a CAM! I still used Hunter on him but for a cheaper option use maestro. He feels exceptionally quick.
  • Shooting - Combining long shots and finishing here. Will score 9/10 times from many positions, including some rather questionable angles. Long shots can be a little variable so if possible choose the finesse, as his CURVE is another big pro.
  • Agility - For someone of his height Pires is surprisingly agile, and can exit skill moves quickly, and turn rapidly.
  • 4* Combo - What more should I say?
  • Stamina - Never gets tired.
  • Passing - Accurate at any distance.
  • Strength - If a CB farts on him he'll go over like he's been shot.
  • Heading - Not the best in the air, won't win duels. If he does his heading accuracy will also let you down.
  • Defending - If you wanted to switch this guy to CM for whatever reason his tackling is left to be desired which isn't helped by his lack of physical.

A clinical CAM
By DanManHamJam, 27-12-2017

I use Pires as a CAM in the 41212(2) and he is absolutely clinical. I start off with the 4321 and switch in game since I feel he's better suited to being a CAM. He makes better runs than any CAM I've used and his finishing in the box is excellent. He's one of those players who just always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He's also very quick for a CAM which compensates for his lack of strength. As you would expect, his playmaking ability is top class with great passing and dribbling. One disappointing thing is his long shots are pretty average which isn't ideal as I like my CAMs to be able to bang them in from long distance. Being 6'2" and so agile is a rare combination at CAM. In terms of value for money, I don't believe you'll find a better icon, especially if you do the SBC. His stamina has't been a problem for me at any point. His goals and assists are all from division 1/FUT Champions and I'd say it's a pretty decent return: 127 goals, 115 assists in 162 games.

Not As Good As You'd Think
By Reblox, 17-01-2018

So I decided to pick up Pires' untradeable 91 card and I can tell you it was the biggest mistake I've ever done. Its 500k that's gone down the drain and I'll never get back. You may notice the way I rated him on his Pace, Shooting, Passing and Dribbling, dont get me wrong, he was incredible as a player but as soon as any player (and I mean any player) got near him he'd be shoved off the ball quicker than you can say "Ref!". His 60 Strength and 47 Aggression is the reasoning for this. My play style quite often relies on a bit physique from the players and I thought with him being 6'2" he'd be competent enough. Boy was I wrong. I played him as a LF, CAM and ST and neither particularly worked well. He may have racked up 58 goals and 44 assists in 76 games but it should be so much higher, most of these goals came from one on ones, rebounds and easy tap ins. He missed most of the more difficult chance which a player like him should be scored relatively easily with a Maestro card on him.

If you're going to use his card you're going to want an Artist chemistry style on him (ups his balance to a reasonable stat) just to give his as much of a fighting chance as possible when going shoulder to shoulder with any player. I'm not saying don't get him because he may be perfect for someone else but if you're a player like me that goes shoulder to shoulder a lot then I'd avoid Pires where possible.

Not worth it!
By w4113s, 30-12-2017

He felt so slow with the ball and not agile at all... I used him for 100 games and got Martial instead.

Used him at left CAM in 4231.

He was decent with the ball, decent composure and good ball control.

He was alright at passing with I would say 90% accuracy.

He felt really slow with the ball, mainly because of his length i think.

He also missed half of the chances he got, very often hitting the post.

He was also very weak, no match for the common defenders like Boateng, Bailly and Manolas etc...
