Magnificent but needs skill
By Eytsher, 05-11-2017

First sorry for my english i am from Germany ^^

If you think that Van Basten is a player which is overpowered and easy to play you are wrong. His 97 positioning makes him the best striker I used this Fifa 18 and with his 95 finishing he is magnificent and it is so satisfying to score goals because his shooting is incredible.

But

Van Basten is hard to handle and you need to play your way through the defensive. You need some good passing skills because Van Bastens dribbling is horrible it is nearly impossible to make skills because his dribbling is too slow.

Van Basten is more like a counterback with amazing shooting because it feels like he has 99 defending. Because of his positioning you sometimes can get balls which no one can get. His physical is way more better than I thought. Overall Van Basten just feels like an amazing striker which always is in the right place at the right time. His pace is ok. His shooting is just the best i have ever seen his dribbling is horrible and his passing and physical is alright. I was surprised that he really was good in defending and getting possesion.

So if you have a lot of coins and you need a striker with perfect positioning and incredible shooting you have to buy Van Basten

His shooting is just impossible. No weakness in shooting. He can do EVERYTHING

His physical is good and his jump power is amazing

His passing is more than average

His pace is acceptable

I have to say it two times : His positioning is just perfect

He can steal balls from counterbacks like a counterback he feels like he has 80 defending

His dribbling is terrible

Skills are feeling slow

Not the best ball controll

The BESt Striker i used so far
By krayzie92, 15-02-2018

This guy can shoot from everywhere i used a hunter style on him which makes him fast so you wont feel anything from the pace problems in the other reviews if you use the hunter chemistry style his passings are more as average he not only knows how to score goals from every angle inside and outside the box he also can bring a deadly pass to a better positioned player but i prefer to just shoot with finesse they go in almost everytime his dribblings are not skilled but EFFECTIVE you need to use the l1 and r1 tricks or the ultimate control(l2+l3) the 92 ball control let you dribble with ease past the defenders or avoid the tackling and take a shot also because he is so tall and not super thin he feels physical very strong he feels like 90 strength his stamina is mor as decent for a striker because he dont need to run a lot he is always at the right place at the right time and his goals are amazing he flies over the pitch with acrobatic stuff and his defending is also pretty good because of his positioning he is just the total package the perfect striker and for 520k as a hunter i would choose him over 87 crespo and if you take a look at gabriel jesus IF he costs 400k and misses a lot chances for this 120k more you get a total game changer

Shooting (specially finesse) really he just dont miss no matter where he shoots from inside or outside the box

Dribblings with l1, r1 and ultimate control (l2+r2)

Positioning

Stamina ( because of his good positioning he dont need long runs)

with a hunter chemistry style his pace( without a hunter its no pro and no con)

his defending is great he starts in the half of your opponent

Ball Control

really no cons at all he is just the total package

King in or around the box

So after playing in the weekend league with (89) Marco van Basten on PC

I was so hyped about getting my first ICON player as I'm not able to afford any ICON in previous years, So I jumped straight into the weekend league. Im not kidding, My first 12 games of weekend league on the PC, I scored 27 goals with Marco Van Basten (89). I was so eager to try the (91) rated one so I sold my (89) one and got the (91) rated version and played him for the rest of my 13 games. I still manage to win 18 of my games and go into Elite 3 but if I were to keep 89 MVB, I think ill hit elite 1 Okay here's my review of the rated 91 version.

Pace : 7/10 - To be honest in the weekend league, you're up against the good players or better players and they were all using boateng etc. If you're looking for someone who can pace past defenders, 91 MVB is not your guy. He's good enough to get past the defenders if you played superb through ball and I found running straight to the opposition defenders with my CAM and supply the through ball more effective for the 91 MVB because his position is superb. Better than 89 MVB. but ya you must finish your chance before the defenders caught up to you.

SHO : 9.5/10 - Be it right foot or left foot, This guy shooting is insane, in or around the box, Fitnesses, long shots or low driven shot. Expect to score 9/10. to be honest I don't see any difference with 89 MVB just that 89 MVB will sometimes scuff his shots just wide.

PAS : 7/10 - Not the best but he's still able to supply good through balls for my LCAM and RCAM in a 4231 formation.

DRIB - 7.5/10 - His dribbling is good enough, not the quickest on the turn but do use the left analog to change directions to confuse your opponent, find an opening go with a fitnesse shot or just turn after receiving the ball and shoot normally.

DEF : -NIL-

PHY - 6.5/10 - Probably because of his low balance, he gets shoved off quite easily by the OP defenders ; ( Boateng, Manolas, Baily, Sokratis.) , Do not sprint unncessarily with him. Track back with your CM or CAM instead. Leave him be at the 3rd half of the pitch and he will last the 90 min game still being able to score goals or make any contribution to your team.

TBH, I'll still choose 89 MVB over 91 MVB, but this is just my preference. Hope 91 MVB will do well in your squad!

Extremely Clinical
By McRaven, 14-01-2018

Being a Dutchman myself I wanted to try out the Swan of Utrecht. Deployed him as a left striker in a 4-1-2-1-2(2) and later in a 4-3-1-2 with Prime ADP at CAM and Mertens/Dybala at right striker. I've used him for around 350 matches before selling him. The first thing you'll notice with MVB is his extremely clinical finishing. This guy can score any shot from anywhere. Left foot, right foot, it just goes in. He's more clinical than players like 87 Crespo and probably on par/slighty better than Prime ADP. The one stat that sets him apart in the shooting department for me is the volley stat. With MVB you can just take the ball out of the air full throttle on his right and it'll go towards goal 9/10 times. He has a couple of traits such as the finesse shooting trait which is one of my favorite traits as balls just fly in easily when finessing it.

His workrate is medium/low which means he'll mostly hang around the striker position all game. His high attack positioning makes up for his lack of a high attacking workrate as he always seems to position himself right where you want him to be. His dribbling and ball control are also very good, though because of his mediocre agility and balance he can feel clunky sometimes and he doesn't always turn as fast as you'd like. He's tall and can head those near post corner crosses in.

Pace is alright. Nothing amazing. Used an Engine on him and he was just fast enough to pass one defender, but two is too much for him. I like to skill and sometimes against good opponents his three star skillmoves were limiting him. He can do the occasional heel to heel flick or a roulette, but you sometimes miss a berba/Giovinco spin. He's also not the strongest player, though because of his body type he can hold up the play well. Stamina is also good as long as you don't run all game with him. He can easily last 90 minutes, though in ET he might need to be subbed.

His passing is also good for a target man. He can do one-two passes with the other striker and can give you assists as well. Because of this I hold him in higher regard than 87 Crespo.

If you're looking for a target man/out and out striker and a true finisher then Marco Van Basten is your guy. He'll score goals even if he isn't playing particularly well in a match. He is a limited player though and needs good and fast players around him to work and do the heavy lifting so that he can finish his chances.

BEST STRIKER IN ALL FIFAS
By ChefBatra, 01-02-2018

I watched youtube reviews and read what other people said about this card. They all said he was amazing so i needed to try him out. I came in with sky high expectations and he DEFINETLY EXCEEDED THEM!! HE DOESN'T MISS, its crazy. if he gets the ball inside the box its an automatic goal. He did not feel slow at all, matter of fact he felt pretty quick. 8.5/10 pace i would say. You guys need to get him. He is amazing
