By FAR the best defender I've tried this year.
By tjoebsaurus, 30-10-2017

While it can hardly come as a surprise to anyone that the highest rated defender in the game is incredibly good, I still felt like I had to make this review after packing him (from a squad battle reward pack! - I know right?)

Anyways, with stats like these it should be borderline impossible to not do well with him. He has all the right attributes in all the right places, making him so, so annoying to play against - which is rare, thankfully.

I used Sergio in my 433(3) La Liga squad next to Umtiti, a borderline unfair combination, and despite none of them being super tall, it worked to perfection. Ramos stats allow him to jump ridiculously high and thus still win what felt like 97% of aerial duels. His pace and physical stats combined are unreal, and it shows, both when you're charging down a fast winger, and when you're 1v1 while jockeying (is that a word?) - he just dominates - unlike so many other "top defenders" I've tried this year. Think of him like Manolas, but much better defensively (and physically in my opinion), and infinitely better in terms of passing and dribbling.

Speaking of passing and dribbling - after the passing nerf EA did last week especially, I think the passing (and dribbling) stat of defenders are much more important than most people think. "He's a defender, he doesn't need good dribbling/passing scrub" WRONG, with the amount of bullshit you encounter in Squad Battles and Weekend League on the regular, you DO need a defender that doesn't turn like a container ship and who can actually pass the ball properly over 20+ meters in order to play through the opponents pressure. He absolutely shines in this area, and he's probably THE most agile/dribbly CB this year, and definitely one of the best passers as well.

Another stat that tends to get a bit overlooked, in defenders particularly, is the reactions stat. There is definitely correlation between a high reaction stat, and ability to tackle properly in FIFA 18. Not surprisingly, given the stats name is literally reactions, it very much seems to affect how quickly the defender (in this case) is able to react to what's happening around him.

I think that was it really, it's hard to explain how good someone is when they just do what they're supposed to for once - something that isn't always the case at all in this FIFA.

But to sum it up (TL;DR): This man is everything I thought and hoped he would be, and more, stats are bonkers in every aspect and it shows. I bet he'd be a great CDM too.

  • Physicality (strength, absurd stamina for a CB, jumping, aggression.
  • Defensive ability (especially marking, interceptions and standing tackles)
  • Speed/pace
  • Passing is unmatched
  • Dribbling is unmatched
  • Reliable (maybe unlike his real life version :D)
  • Shooting maybe? But even here he's arguably better than most CBs in the game, bar a few like Rakitskiy, Naldo, etc. who are freaks tbh.
  • A bit on the pricey end, but that's to be expected from the highest rated in his position bar icons. Absolutely worth it though, which is why I still have to give him 5 stars in value.
  • Can't think of anything else, he's great in every area that's relevant to him.

Sergio Ramos. If I can quote TWOSYNC Sergio Ramos is a "hell of a plur". Ramos knows how to defend like a pro and hes very good at it.

Ramos has very good defensive stats having 99 in all defensive stats except for interceptions (with a shadow). Ramos has the very nice Physical attributes to compliment his defensive stats as well. 93 jumping makes him lethal at corners. Ramos will header 9/10 corners. 84 aggression means he won't let ST's past him and 84 stamina means he can run all game.

When it comes to negatives Ramos has high attacking and medium defensive work rates. meaning he tends to run forward and out of positions leaving gaps but he is quick enough to track back. He also stands at 6'0 which is quite short for a CB but just ensure that he plays next to a tall CB like Bailly or Varane.

Ramos holds down the fort
By ElBarberoX, 12-01-2018

Let me start off by saying I have a hyper aggressive La Liga Team that's built all around pace and attack... Please have a look at my squad to see what I mean... I needed an elite defense to be able to stop attacks quickly so I can get the ball back to my pacey midfield and Ramos fits the bill. If you can rack up the coins to buy him, he is simply the best for a La Liga team... He is super quick and pushes everyone off the ball which I need someone to do quickly because theres only 3 in the back... He intercepts, he passes AND he attacks.. I've seen this guy run up the pitch to aid in the attack even when I have the team tactics on normal during a game... He has scored 2 headers for me in 53 games and that's because he just likes to be on the other side of the pitch during corners... Anyways, hes already a monster and adding anchor only makes him better... If you've got the coins and want to feel safe that people are going to have a hard time scoring on you, don't look any further...

  • Aggressive AF both on O and D
  • Fast
  • Physical
  • Excellent anticipation
  • Fantastic heading... people are going to feel intimidated when they see him waiting for a corner
  • Obviously, most expensive gold, not inform/icon La Liga CB
  • Likes to leave the back line a lot to help out on the attack and if you don't know how to control the pace of the game, it might catch you off guard but even then, hes really good about reading the play and going back to his line

One of the best defenders I've played this year
By PieniadzGaming, 06-07-2018

Ramos is really worth his price. With his pace and defending skills he can get the ball from almost everyone. I used Boateng to, but he wasn't as good as his Spanish friend. Altough he has h/m workrates, I think that it is not his disadvantage. It works perfectly with his pace, because he runs from defence line, gets the ball, and opponent doesn't know what has just happened. But it has also the other side. When you play on defending/balaced style, it's ok. But if you play on attacking or higher, he often plays in a line with strikers. And sometimes he is losing headers because of his height.

Good pace

Very good defending

Running from denfence to intercept

Headers in defence (in corners, its not that bad)
