Morning, Afternoon or Evening All!
Before I begin this review, I have to express my thanks to everyone who liked the Orsic review, I didn't even ask for likes and the review has managed to break a FUTBIN record and become the most liked review on the entire site, 407 likes at the time I am writing this review. I did use Orsic as a sub this weekend and he carried on to be awesome, I achieved elite 2 by Saturday at around 4 so I was looking forward to the 6pm content drop. When this Konate dropped, I was excited, as I was running 352 very earlygame with the 3 brothers Mukiele, Upamecano and of course Konate, with Gulacsi behind them. What the 4 of them lacked in hair, they more than made up for when protecting my goal. Of course times have changed and cards have improved, but a boosted Konate excited me.
Let's speak a little about Konate, the Frenchman is a young talent with a very high potential, meaning that the prospect of him earning a future star item is very much within the realms of possibility. He could also of course get a TOTS but by that point, who really cares. Unless he does get that future star card, the chances are your unlocking the highest rated Konate card there will be until the game is on it's back. In terms of French and Bundesliga centre-backs, I want to base this review on how he compares to them. I will mainly be looking at Lenglet, Hernandez, Umtiti, Varane, Sule and Laporte.
In terms of upgrades, it has to be noted that Konate is almost guaranteed an upgrade, with Leipzig 5 points clear meaning that they only have to win 1 of their next 2 games, this also assuming that 3rd place Zenit or 4th place Benfica win their next 2 games, and the two sides face eachother on the final day. In essence, it isn't happening. Konate will be 84 rated very soon.
Pace- Konate has 81 pace which was boosted to 86 using the anchor chemistry style. However, the pace is split quite unevenly, with 87 sprint speed hugely overshadowing his 73 acceleration. However, 73 acceleration on any other centre-back would be considered good. It just, seems, odd? Anyway he did catch up the majority of attackers, his pace is exceptional in long-distance sprints but sometimes if he is the last man, he finds difficulty in staying with the real pace merchants. Mbappe, Auba and co were sometimes a little too much for him if he rushed in(which sometimes happens due to is high/high workrates. But if it is a straight sprint from something like a counter-attack, nobody is outpacing Konate.
Shooting- If I speak, I am in big trouble. Because I will have to tell you about the amount of times I shot with him. Don't want to disappoint you, but I didn't even bother trying.
Passing- Useable. Compared to some centre-backs his passing is on the low side but the most important one in there, his short passing, is nice and high up at 80. Not a pro, not a con. It's just...decent.
Dribbling- 75 dribbling is really solid on a centre-back, and his agility is 71 which is amazing for a big guy. Lenglet for example, feels nice and smooth when I have used him and he only has 62 agility. His balance at 60 is also decent, Varane and Sule being two centre-backs with particularly low balance. His reactions unfortunately are quite low which contributes to the fact that he sometimes feels slow in short-distance races, being slow to react with fairly low acceleration and high/high workrates, it is understandable why this is a key negative for Konate. Composure at 81 is quite nice.
Defending- A key talking point. Let's deal with the positives, as a tackler his stand and slide tackle are both good and especially his stand tackle, he is very difficult to pass when he goes in for a tackle. He is dominant in the air, he actually managed to score a few corner headers and this surprised me as it is very difficult to find the target from corners, but he jumps well considering his height and the heading accuracy is impressive, it is only 79 and 89 with anchor but it feels better in game. The interceptions are decent, not incredible. The only real con I can find also contributes to the main con we have already discussed, and it's the defensive awareness, with his workrates the Frenchman regularly finds himself out of position and this adds to the reason he does get caught out in close-range races, he pushes too far up at times. However, the awareness is boosted by 10 by the anchor and the well-rounded defensive boost is why I went with anchor, but all of shadow, sentinel, basic and maybe even backbone are a feasible choice when applying a chem style to Konate.
Physical- Here we are. The part I mainly looked forward to writing. This man is an absolute beast. He has 86 strength which is good, and 79 aggression which is decent(given a +5 and +10 boost respectively by anchor) but he feels so much stronger than this. He is 6'4 and his frame is absolutely humongous, so getting around the man is so difficult. He wasn't outmuscled once and to make this more impressive, I faced Drogba twice(seems people are quick with these objectives, or am I just slow?) but for anyone else to get him, your going to have to find Konate, and remove the Ivorian from his pocket. Rip Drogba users, as the futbin mandem would say. Wait did I actually just say that? Sorry lads.
I won't discuss weak foot and skill moves as it is highly irrelevant, and we have already discussed his workrates, height, frame and how these factors contribute to his in-game performance.
So, is he worth it? Short answer, yes. Aside from his short sprints, he is absolutely wonderful. I would advise shadow on hindsight, however, I feel as if the physical boosts provided by anchor was the reason he felt so strong. Almost all defensive chem styles are awesome for him and have their merits. Anyway, do him. 100k for the best non-icon Bundesliga centre-back and joint-best French centre-back. For me, controversially, he is on par with Varane. Very similar in their stature, speed and general ability. Varane has slightly better stats, but the way Konate performs is on par with Varane, and when he receives his 84 card, he will be better than Varane. However, if I could advise anything, I would play the two together. I played him with my new acquisition, 87 Cannavaro who I wanted to test through the week, and his acceleration, workrates and positioning are perfect for a partner to Konate. However, Varane is more affordable. If anyone wants a Cannavaro review, let me know, but I doubt it will be popular. If only a few people want it, I will provide a short review but I aren't expecting it to go down well. In all honesty, I don't mind. Fun>Likes. But this doesn't mean I don't appreciate likes and if you could hit one it would be awesome, but you know me(actually you probably don't) but I'll never beg. You certainly won't see me saying lIkE tO gEt In ReD, and if you do this, leave. I don't want you here;)
Jokes aside, hope you've enjoyed, have a good day, and tell me who you want me to review next.
Do Konate,
