Player Review

94 - TOTS
5.0
Van De Beek - Gullit in Disguise
By Arktic42, 27-05-2020

After packing this guy untradeable, I had to fit him into my team as his stats looked super crazy!

First of all I’d like to say that this review is based on 15 games of Rivals in Division 3 - this helped me to get a good idea of how he plays in game. I also used a Shadow chem style as I need maximum pace on my CDMs due to the high line I play (5 or 6 depth) in the 4231 formation.

Ladies and gentlemen, this guys stats do not lie. He is without doubt the most well rounded CDM I have ever used.

CDMs that I have used:

TOTSF Henderson

TOTSF Gustavo

TOTSF Gabriel

FB Witsel

SS David Luiz.

Well, how does VDB compare to the CDMs I have just mentioned? The closest one I can compare him to is Henderson. Both are similar in height and build and both have high/high workmates which is perfect for a CDM. The difference between the two is that VDB has this black hole effect that I have never experienced with a CDM before. He literally swallows players up - hence why I compare him to Gullit. Benzema? no problem... Lewandowski? bring it on....

DEFENCE

He is always in the right place and even if he isn’t, he is absolutely rapid so can recover very quickly. His strength and defending stats means he tackles very cleanly, none of those annoying tackles that end up back at the strikers feet.

With the shadow chem style he is able to keep up with the fastest players such as Adama and Mbappe quite comfortably and he never loses a 1v1 battle.

His 99 stamina is also a huge bonus as it compliments his work rates very well.

ATTACK

His dribbling in game feels absolutely brilliant. Although his balance is not the greatest, his strength and other dribbling stats more than make up for this.

His passing is de bruyne-like and in the 15 games he played, he managed to get me 8 assists which I believe is excellent considering his position. I advise to use him as a box to box, as I mentioned before, his recovery is phenomenal due to his work rates and pace so he is able to stop counters easily.

Now, one of the highlights of this guy is his shooting. Oh my days, this lad can hit one. He managed to score 7 goals for me in the 15 games he played. His shots, if you can get them on his right foot, are absolutely deadly. He has 95 composure and 99 positioning too, so he is perfect for those cut backs from the wide players as he is running into the box.

IS HE WORTH THE COINS?

At the time of writing this card is 215k and in my opinion that's an absolute steal. He also has a perfect link to Promes and strong link Tagliafico; two of the best looking LW and LB in the game.

With a player that are comparable to Prime Gullit, at a fraction of a fraction of the cost, for me its a no brainer - he is worth every coin.

Cheap must have

After 40 rivals matches (d4/d3), I can tell you that this guy is literally everywhere, I played him as a CDM in a 4-2-3-1 with Gattuso Baby, and he overshadowed him, I only saw him. He's tall, defends very well in hand-to-hand combat, but he has some gaps in interceptions, but his presence on the ground pardons him. He takes balloons of the head, resists the physical, and in addition he is good offensively. I played him too...

A top CDM

He's a very consistent CM/CDM, he always does his job and is always there.I wouldnt say he's in the top 3, but definitly in the top 5.For his price, he's a bargain.

Maradonny

I needed a solid Eredivisie CM/CDM to link Neres and Bergwijn and van de Beek was the best option. For his price, he didn't dissapoint. Before I changed my team, I've used IF Naingolan (85) and Witsel as cdm's. Compared to those 2, van de Beek can hold his ground. I must say that Naingolan was superior in everything besides winning headers. Van de Beek felt slightly more agile compared to Witsel but was a bit weaker and sho...
