Worth the 23 tokens?
By rouniiz, 14-10-2019

I bet most of you are thinking whether Drogba is a wise move to get from the swaps or not. I can tell you by 1 WL of experience (30 games) of how i feel about Drogba as i was fortunate enough to pack baby Zidane and try this beast out. Before i start the review lets wrap out his stats in my club: 30 games: 28 goals & 13 assists. Chem style used: Engine. Rank in WL: Elite 3.

Pace 7.5 / 10: 85 pace for a guy who is 6'2 tall and heavy as a tank is great. He can use his pace and same time use his strength to shield the ball. Sadly though the agility makes him look a little slower than he really is, he usually just feels clunky with the ball so you cannot run past players so "smoothly" like you could with Neymar or Mbappe. That's why i give him only a 7.5.

Shooting: 9.0 / 10: You could be thinking why "only" 9.0 rating when he has a beast of shooting. Well it is great he finishes like a animal.. usually. Only thing which could be a little better is his composure. Too often i missed a clear 1 on 1's with him even though he had 85 composure, but its still not great. Its not like with Ronaldo who has 95 composure. If you want a ELITE state striker you could wish he has a higher composure than 85. With higher composure i could give him 9.5 rating. Perfect 10 with 5* wf. Still amazing shooting don't get me wrong, but you could expect even a little better from that state of player. And his workrates is great though, makes a lot of good runs with that 92 positioning.

Passing 7.0 / 10: Not great, not bad either. He sometimes gives some nice through balls here and there but its not like having a Messi upfront. Also that free kick accuracy honestly makes him look a better passer than he really is, unfortunately. Its still good enough passing for a st but its not anything special.

Dribbling 5.5 / 10: I'm not trying to be too negative on this but honestly.. its trash. Hes missing some of the most important dribbling stats you want from your top elite state striker. Agility & composure. With the way how servers are this year.. probably a worse than ever.. players with a low dribbling feels so daamn clunky, unresponsive & slow its crazy. That's why i hate all the low dribbling players in general and love players like Messi or Neymar. Only positive thing i can find from his dribbling is the 4* skills, but you cannot do them properly with 70 agility. Not even the composure is that great also. 85 is decent don't get me wrong but from your top striker you want it to be in the 90's. With higher agility and composure it would be a unstoppable card, now its like having a slightly upgraded Lukaku in your team.

Defending N / A: As a striker you don't really look at his defending.

Physical: 10 / 10. Only thing beside shooting i absolute loved about this card. Hes so strong its crazy and he wins headers so easily. But again the way how headers are atm you don't really get rewarded from good heading players. I maybe scored like 3 headers with him. He just won a lot of headers from goal kicks so that helped me a lot. But the strength is just something crazy. You could so easily just hold down the L2 and shield the ball and do like a drag back and easy goal. That's one thing i loved about this card. So good at inside the box when he gets to be back towards the defender. Its so hard to get the ball off from him and even if you are shoulder to shoulder with a defender he can't tackle you unless its like a VVD. Absolute amazing.

So after a deep dive do i think its worth the 23 tokens? As how the gameplay and servers is right now & if you are only at looking a player who is best choice to help you get wins then no. There is so much better choices to put upfront than Drogba. I liked Son, Messi, Neymar, Mane more than a Drogba upfront. But if you are only looking at a player which could be a fun player to use or you don't care too much about if he helps you get wins then this is your guy. Its a good card don't get me wrong but for a player you need to get 23 tokens out from 24, i just don't think its worth it.

  • Strength, ability to shield the ball + push players off from ball
  • Finishing inside the box
  • Pace, for a player who is 6'2 tall & strong as f*ck its good
  • Makes good runs
  • Beast in air
  • Double 4*
  • Misses too many 1on1's & under pressure situations. Composure could be slightly higher
  • Agility, he feels so clunky. By far biggest con about him
  • Dribbling in general
  • Passing

Hit or Miss
By abz293, 27-10-2019

Firstly, just like to say this is my very first review, so I apologies if I've got anything wrong. Next up, who I've used before...I've used quite a few strikers, like mbappe, ronaldo, messi, vieri, suarez, aguero and auba (they're the big ones). So how does drogba stack up compared to these guys? Well, he's very hit or miss. In 19 games he scored 32 goals with 17 assists, all of which were in fut champs this last weekend. Based off those stats you'd say he's pretty insane right? Well you're not wrong. This was my first fut champs weekend and I got Gold 1, so I'm a very average player. In some games he was an absolute machine, he got a few hatricks, however in other games he literally disappeared and would maybe popup with an assist. I used him alongside mane, who although has less goals per game, he felt more consistent than drogba, his finishing was nowhere near as good, but he definitely had more shots and in general was more present in the games.

Shooting

His shooting feels very solid, if you can get a shot off with him then 9/10 times it will go in. He bangs goals for fun. Even outside the box he still gets a few good bangers or even finesse shots with him feel OP.

Stregnth

He feels very strong, he can easily out muscle most defenders in duals, and he seems to win 50/50s the majority of the time.

Headers

Even though this year headers are nerfed, he still gets a few headed goals from corners and crosses, which is suprising considering how the meta has change

Dribbling

His dribbling is very poor, he feels very clunky and this is a huge disappointment as dribbling is the meta in this game

Pace

He seems to be a little on the slow side, his pace is very average and although it's a bit harsh putting it down as a con, but in this meta he seems too slow to be an elite striker.

Price

For this price (currently 1.3m) there are better options available. Even getting him from the icon swaps may not be the best as it's better to use other strikers, he feels alot like potm pukki who was near enough free early on in the game.

Excellent player. Worth the 23 tokens for me.
By protar63, 27-11-2019

First thing I'll say is that I have never done a player review before but this card was so good that I thought it was finally time. I am a division 4/3 player and finish Gold 1 in weekend league when I play. My club value is pretty low (around 400k) as I refuse to spend any money on fifa points, and I have no notable untradables other than Drogba. I have been working my way through the objectives for the icon swaps tokens and after changing my mind 500 times, I finally decided I was going to get him when I made it to 23 tokens. Best decision I have ever made in FUT. I play him as a single striker in a 4231 formation with engine and default instructions, and in his first 30 games (which were all in the weekend league), he scored 58 goals and assisted 8. I also finished Elite 3 for the first time ever and give this card the credit for that. He is absolutely brilliant and I am so glad I decided to take him. I nearly used my tokens on other icons because I could not find any reviews from more casual payers like myself, so hopefully this review helps out anyone who has still not used their tokens or is considering buying him. So lets get down to specifics.

Pace - 9/10

You often find with big strikers that there is a mismatch between sprint speed and acceleration, with their acceleration often being quite a bit lower than their pace stat may suggest, and this makes them feel slower than expected. Drogba does not follow this pattern and is nicely balanced with 85 sprint speed and 85 acceleration, and both increase to 90 with engine applied. He feels very quick, especially for his height, but his strength compliments his pace massively because in the event that someone does catch up to him, he can just hold them off with good use of the left trigger. Overall though he definitely does feel like the 90 pace that his stats say with an engine applied and can latch onto through balls or carry the ball up the pitch himself without being caught.

Shooting - 9.5/10

As mentioned, I use an engine chemistry style on his so his shooting is not boosted but it is still almost perfect. However, this is a little dependant on the type of shot you do. Power shots both inside the box and outside the box, near post and across goal are all perfect and he never missed a single opportunity that ended up costing me a game. However, his finesse shots are not quite as impressive. They are of course consistently good from one on ones and still generally very good, but I wouldn't say they are as outstanding as his regular shots. As a result, I find myself using 90% regular shots with this card, and rarely try any long range finesse shots. You might question the choice of 9.5 when I have hardly used his finesse shooting, but in all honestly with the quality of his regular shots, I just do not even need to finesse much with him, so using them less it really not detrimental to me at all. However, this may be something to consider if you love the satisfaction of a long range curler from outside the box. As for his positioning. It's perfect. The runs he makes are everything you could ask for and he is constantly moving to get free in the box. 58 goals in his first 30 weekend league games is all the evidence you need.

Passing - 9/10

The engine chemistry style gives a welcome boost to his passing to bring it to a very good level. As mentioned, he plays in a 4231 and the three CAM's around him are all pacey and agile which is perfect to pass into Drogba to hold it up and he can then play the ball in behind to them. His through balls at medium to short range are excellent. He doesn't really have much use for long passes because he is only really ever on the ball in the final third anyway. All in all his passing is superb and definitely good enough to use as a hold up player to work off of and for one-twos with players around him.

Dribbling - 8/10

His dribbling stats receive a boost with engine, and the boost to his balance and agility are welcome. I have only used him with this chemistry style but he was actually far better than I had expected based on the few other reviews I had read. If you are a player that likes to create chances with nimble dribbling through defences with players like Mbappe and Mane, then he might not be for you, as he is obviously not an hugely agile player, but he can pull off a quick drag back in the box to create space for a shot as good as I ever need him to. Overall its good for a 6 ft 2 striker, and I cannot really remember many times where I have lost the ball with him due to poor dribbling. His 4* skills is also a helpful asset to have. and it has has helped me beat players many times. I do not use skills more than the average player though so I'm sure this could be made use of even more.

Physical - 9.5/10

Superb. It really makes the card in my opinion. His physicality just compliments everything else. He doesn't need 99 pace because his great strength just allows him to hold people off when in behind, his hold up play is exceptional which allows you to utilise his impressive passing, and if you do need to dribble in a tight situation he can shield the ball to keep possession and make a chance which makes up for the below average agility. His jumping is also great, even with no chemistry style, and he does win lots of headers. I rarely cross the ball in the air so I don't score any headed goals really and don't try to, so I can't give any opinions on this, but in terms of winning headers at goal kicks or just in open play to win the ball, he is great. As for his stamina, there really is no problem there even with High/High work rates. As long as he is over 80 fitness or so going into a game, he will last through 120 minutes without a problem and 90 minutes is a doddle for him.

Defending - N/A

I am not going to give this a rating because obviously he plays at a striker, but I did think it was worth a comment because he actually does win the ball off defenders quite a lot for me. If he gets tackled and loses the ball, he will often fight back and win it back which I haven't really been ale to do successfully with any other strikers. I think this is mainly down to his size and strength as he just dominates the opponent into stumbling and giving the ball up and sometimes it almost feels like he has them surrounded all on his own because of his size and power. As I say, no rating for this one because he is not there to defend, but might be useful information to anyone who likes to press and win the ball up the top of the pitch.

Overall it really is an excellent card. I was not sure about using 23 of my tokens on him, but it has tuned out to a very very good decision. I would just say though to bear in mind that I have not used any other striker over 100k this year so I cannot compare him to any other elite strikers. That said, 58 goals in 30 weekend league matches really does speak for its self. His record now is 80 goals and 11 assists in 44 games (30 weekend league and 14 rivals) and my win percentage in those 44 games is 82%. I can pretty much guarantee that the win percentage would be far lower if not for him, as he has scored the goals to win the vast majority of those games, and my win percentage before having him was a fair bit lower than 82%.

Final verdict - Perfect for what I wanted and I can pretty much say with certainty that he'll be in my team until TOTS. Would recommend to almost anyone.

  • Pace - Perfectly good enough to carry the ball forward for a counter attack or latch onto through balls.
  • Physicality - Very strong which compliments all his other qualities perfectly.
  • Passing - Great hold up player to use to ping passes into players or to play one-two's with. Rarely misplaces a pass.
  • Shooting - Exceptional power shots from any situation.
  • Long range finesse shots not as good as regular shots. But they really are not needed and a chemistry style could correct this if you really wanted.

Drogba = Beast
By Liamr1998, 22-04-2020

To be honest I only got Drogba because I really enjoyed watching him play during his career in the premier league and love his play style. To put it frank he does not suit the meta at all, but he is a very good and fun card to use. He does certainly make a very stale, poorly made game that more enjoyable For me at least. He is just a brute which is a given, but he is the one and only striker I have used who is a tank and can run in behind and just smash 9/10 shots in the back of the net.

If you use Drogba correctly as a Target man who holds the ball up and lays it of to your other attacker with his strength or the occasional turn, pass or shoot, he is extremely effective. Once in the box and he gets a shot away he wont miss many, although I always hit the post in this game. Do not use him like you would a meta card, that should be obvious but as a solo striker he works well but in my opinion he is best next to one of those meta strikers. They compliment one another so well. As well as for the price of around 400k you are getting one of the best finishers in the game who is extremely iconic and mixes the game up a bit. I never expected him to dominate games for me as well as he did. There is not really any cons for this player as he is a certain style and if a target man dont suit you. *Shock* you will most likely not enjoy Drogba. His movement and positioning is elite so he will always be in the right place which is massive.

Firstly his pace for a big tall striker he has good pace, of course the worst out of the four versions available but at 85 with either a Hunter or Engine on top he is nimble enough and can sprint past some players. It really compliments well with his strength as he is not easily pushed of the ball. (8/10)

Secondly his shooting was probably his joint best attribute! On this game I find shooting and finishing very inconsistent and this guy can miss like any player but he score incredible goals, his shot power is unreal this guy blasts them in so often. He can score from so many tight angle with either foot. He is also very capable of finesse shots inside the box which gives him some variety and he is also the best chip shot player I have used. Overall (10/10)

Next is his passing, undoubtedly not a great area, but he is not used to play tricky passes or long passes. At 76 shot passing which is definitely on the low side he can get the job done, he can link the play well and often does get me a layoff assist. Crossing etc not great of course. Overall (6/10) Much much better in game then his stats suggest.

Dribbling another area a lot of people complain about and is definitely more of a weakness then a strength. However he really is not that bad, I use a hunter therefore his dribbling is not boosted, I will admit he can be a little clunky and slow to dribble at times but he his definitely capable of pulling of a skill move or two or even a really nice turn. Just do not use him as a skiller or someone to weave in and out with etc. His ball control was phenomenal. Balance was noticeable but not horrible and agility well also not great but was not terrible. For all things considered (6/5/10) I was pleasantly impressed considering his base card stats

Defending well this is not important but he can barge players of the ball from attacking areas which is nice

And finally his physical; this guy is a tank so so so so strong, just hold the left trigger (do this every time he gets the ball, when there is not clear chance to shoot) when in tight areas with not much space. 9/10 times he will not be pushed of the ball. Stamina was fine never got tired within 90 mins did become a problem afterwards but again use him to hold the ball up. Heading of course sucks on this game but he is very capable with good heading and jumping. Did score 2 or 3 for me. (10/10)

Overall this guy is brilliant for nostalga and just to have fun with. He is capable in weekend league and rivals but there is better players out there. For 400k this is a great deal in my opinion.

I am often a gold 3 player

Goals, Power and Workrate
By djen123, 02-12-2019

Hi Guys - this is my first review. Thought I would share my opinion of Drogba 89 given some of you are still deciding which ICON to select from Season 1.

What I will give you here is my rating of his stat categories (pace, shooting, passing etc) based on 221 games experience across squad battles (elite 1), FUT champs (gold 2), and Division Rivals (5 at the moment).

Before I do, I will preface this review by stating that I selected him based on his outstanding goals per game average as seen in the PGP (Player Game Performance) statistics. Along with CR7 and R9 his goal scoring ability is unrivaled according to FUTBIN statistics.

PACE: 8 / 10

Firstly, his acceleration does not feel like 90, as the stats would have you believe. I would liken in to more like 80. However, once he gets some momentum up with that 'galloping' running style he really is quick and given his physics (height, weight, strength), he reminds me of a runaway freight train. He draws defenders to him as opponents scramble to stop him. This means that he will create space for your other forwards to take advantage of.

His pace will allow him to make beautiful forward runs past your opponents defense and with the help of holding the jostle (L2 - PS4, LB - Xbox) button, he is hard to stop and once he is in the opposition box or near it, you just unleash the cannons that are his right foot and 4* left.

SHOOTING: 9 / 10

Power and accuracy is what you can expect. Left and right foot. The only reason I gave him a 9 instead of a 10 is because he could be slightly better at finesse shots, given he does not have the 'finesse shot' trait. That is being picky though. Most times you will not notice this, because he will blast straight, diagonal, low, high missiles past the keeper with his feet and rarely his head. This will make you happy :) Oh and he is wonderful penalty taker.

PASSING: 8 / 10

Much better than I expected. I would rate him a solid 85 out of 100, instead of the 75 EA seem to rate him. As you can via my stats in playing with his card, he assists quite a lot. One reason for this is because he draws players to him which frees your other forwards to run into space. Another is because he is a fantastic target man, given his size and strength make his ability to hold the ball unique. If you have other forwards around him that are quick and agile (ie Messi, Mertens, Gnabry, Lucas, Ben Yedder), they will compliment Drogba's size and strength and score goals from the havoc he creates up forward.

DRIBBLING: 6 / 10

Not his strong suit, but not as horrible as some would have you believe. If you want him to charge at defenders and outmaneuver them, he is not your man, despite the 4 * skills. He is no Zlatan Scream when it comes to skills for a big guy. His touch is slightly heavy, hence why many players label him 'clunky' after a dozen games and dismiss his upside - which is immense if you adapt and play to his strengths.

DEFENSE: 7 / 10

Surprising. His height, strength, aggression and high / high work rates allow him extend and retrieve the ball at will. He works hard both ways and will push players aside and retrieve the ball. When he does this after he turns the ball over in the final third (which he will at times given his average dribbling) and then launches a missile and scores - it brings with it a warm and content smile to your body.

PHYSICALITY: 9 / 10

Bull. El Torro. You get what I mean. He is big, strong and quick when up and running. Wonderful target man to given the ball to while your other players scramble forward to support. Will beat Ramos, VVD for strength and punch a goal past a keeper. This game is not designed for offensive headers and I haven't scored many with him (any tips?) however he does clear the ball in defense by head extremely often and with power.

Disclaimer: I am not the best player and this is just my take. I can do skill moves, however I am neither good or bad but somewhere in between. Drogba is a player who will probably not satisfy your skilling needs if that is what you are after. He will score goals and assist, provided you use him as you should. That is, send him running forward (if he hasn't done so by himself) and feed him the ball. Adios and I hope this review is useful to you.
