95 - ShapeShifters
5.0
Forever a GOD
By SweatyJewGoal, 04-06-2020

So... I was ridiculously lucky. At around 10am on the 23rd June, this guy's 99-rated TOTS pops up out of a Rare Players pack - as a tradable. Given the fact that it's Weekend League, I decided to give *that* version of his card a try. While it felt good, I could not justify the ridiculous expense over his base card, which was almost as deadly and less than 5% of the price.

I happen to notice, for the first time I might add, that Ronaldo's Shapeshifter card is LEFT FOOTED. Now, the best strike force in FIFA 20 is one that's unpredictable... i.e. 5* Weak Foot. The thought goes through my brain - "If I never noticed that this Ronaldo is Left-Footed, a lot of people won't know either". This turns out to be the best realisation I have ever experienced.

22 Weekend League games later, and he's at 37 goals with 20 assists. With Engine, the clunkiness generally unavoidable with tall and well-built players is all but eradicated. Being able to carry out skill moves with his left foot in tight situations catches out the opponent on so many occasions. The Pace is more than good enough, and the passing is well-improved and perfect for chance creation in the box against 1-depth Drop Back lackies. His positioning is exactly what you'd want for a lone striker, and with the linked squad (starting 451, switch in-game), he is never without support and is easy to supply.

All of this pales into insignificance, however, when compared with the cannon that is this guy's left peg. Creating shooting opportunities is the easiest thing, as the defenders never expect you to be pinging it with his left, let alone focusing on using it in the first place. His finesse shots are a little wild, due to the lack of trait, but still tend to get buried with power into the top-bin. The added bonus of true-aim shooting (you aim bottom corner, it will go BOTTOM corner) is something few players execute regularly, but it's easy if you keep your composure. The 4* Weak Foot does more than enough to bail you out of those rare occurences where the defender knows what he is doing, and will even put in a blinder on occasion that will make you question whether it's 4*, 5* or somehow even better. 90% of the time though, on his left boot, it's Receive, Point, Shoot and Celebrate. No funny business required with the shots, just hit it.

I feel somewhat disappointed that SS Messi is out wide, unable to contribute as much with his pure skill and dart-like movement between defenders as a Striker, but this SS Ronaldo functions so well as a lone ranger up top, that it's a sacrifice well made.

If I had ANY issue with this card, I would tell you. I don't.

More than anything, the "SUPRISE!" left boot.
