Player Review
91 - Icon
I've never written a review about any player before, much less a goalkeeper but I have been playing Fifa for a long time, experiencing the best goalkeepers at a time where they were stupidly overpowered. In a game where this has been reversed, Yashin comes out as a goalkeeper who outshines every Keeper I have ever used, and I have never controlled his movements. For context I'm a Div 3 player usually finishing Gold 3/2 on Fut Champs. In this Fifa, I have averaged a possession rate of around 30%, relying heavily on very fast paced counter-attacks to win games, even on squad battles. This is to the extent that I have only had a higher possession rate maybe once or twice in the 500 odd matches of Fifa I have played. Now it goes without saying I'm constantly defending every game and having a good goalkeeper is absolutely critical for me. I have used every top goalkeeper, Courtois, IF Pope, Neuer, Gulasci, Oblak etc but with Yashin, I am confident to come out with a clean sheet with this legend between the sticks.
It was a rocky start with me and Yashin, I got his base card out of the base icon SBC which I was okay with but I didn't get along with his base at all. I then did the Icon Swaps and Lord and Behold I have the Russian flag come up and my heart sinks. I try his middle out and couldn't stand it, letting in easy goals to the point where I had Neto between the sticks with Yashin on the bench. One day something switched though. Now he saves everything.
His diving is incredible. Finesse shots have the bane of many a keeper for me but when you have Pele swinging in a screamer at 20 yards, Yashin's there to deny him. The man is literally Superman, diving from one end of the box to the other to do a fingertip save. Even sweaty goals where his incredible reflexes come into play, when you have Neymar and Mbappe through on goal Yashin doesn't care, the man's on his coffee break after setting up a brick wall between the sticks. Even if Mbappe decides to smash one in, Yashin will palm it away and if Neymar gets the rebound, Yashin is there to stop him again. He rarely lets a rebound occur, but when he does I have seen him do double, triple and even quadruple saves to deny the opposition. I'm pretty sure that because he doesn't have his hat on, his aerodynamics increase by 150%. His handling is top notch, like I said before he rarely palms it away for a rebound goal. I can trust my Russian Boi to palm it out for a corner or catch the ball. Even on a couple of occasions he has palmed it out to a high full-back who instantly starts the counter. His kicking is not incredible but it is good. 73 does not do this man justice. Because I play counter attacking, when Yashin catches the ball I can smash the ball up the pitch for my striker to run onto and he has got a couple of assists doing this. Not only that but this GOD has scored from his own box like Tim Howard cucking Bolton. There are times that the opposition claim the ball when I do smash it up but I would put this down to big boi Varane deciding he doesn't want me to counter attack. Lastly my boi's positioning is beyond what any keeper has the right to do. I genuinely don't think I've ever been chipped despite me having him on sweeper keeper. Nevertheless if Blanc doesn't manage to tackle the opposition striker, Yashin is there to end the poor man's career anyway rushing up before I even notice to snap him in half as if I have Cannavaro as a 3rd Center back. With corners too, I have Yashin come out for crosses and oh boy does he deliver. I've seen many a goalkeeper stand in the middle of the box to deny a corner, but Yashin hasn't got time for that, instead he sprints out and punches the ball with the power of 100 weekend league players punching Neymar in the face. Generally speaking his positioning is excellent, going as far as denying green time shots from Icons to keep me in the game.
I cannot rate this man enough, he is Tim Bolton saving 16 shots against Belgium, he is De Gea cucking a finesse shot by Liverpool's Coutinho, he is Neuer running out and decking Higuain for having the audacity to be through on goal, he is Scott Sterling never conceding a penalty, he is Ederson pinging it 60 yards to Sterling, he is Oblak denying Liverpool their Champions League trophy.
