ICON MOMENTS PUYOL PLAYER REVIEW: 8.9/10
FORMATION:
I used him as my right CB in the 4-2-2-2 alongside Icon Moments Cannavaro. I Used him with the Catalyst Chemistry style to boost that Pace primarily and his passing as well. I used him for 5 games in FUT Champions. Let’s begin.
VALUE FOR COINS:
650k isn’t a bad price for this card to be completely honest, as he in an Icon Moments card and its one of the cheaper ones on the market. If this card had more pace, he could be used competitively. But unfortunately, his pace is too much of a shortcoming when dealing with pacey, meta attackers.
He is outstanding defensively in terms of his defensive and physical attributes and gameplay, and if you’re a casual gamer, you will absolutely love this card.
Personally, I am going to craft his SBC as its available at 450k as he is one of my all-time favourite players that I have ever watched. After all, he the GOAT Mr. Carles Puyol, and I salute and will honour him by adding him to my Ultimate Team.
OVERALL: 7.5/10
DEFENDING:
SIMPLY OUTSTANDING!! He has one of the smoothest and cleanest tackles in-game. Perfect Medium/High work rates, hence his defensive positioning was brilliant. His AI held my defensive line perfectly and never pushed out of position. His AI assisted in many auto blocks and auto-interceptions to break up the play. I was super impressed with his defensive abilities overall! You don’t need to use a Shadow chemistry style in my opinion as his defensive stats are almost maxed out and doesn’t need a further boost. Hence, you can opt to boost his pace and passing instead.
9.7/10
PHYSICALITY:
Beast of a card. Insane strength, can bully anyone off the ball with that 94 strength. His 88 stamina is more than adequate to last him the whole 90 or even 120 mins effortlessly. His 94 aggression makes his AI press opponents to win the ball back for the most part when they ran into his ark. He’s 5”10 in-game which is an average height tall, and with his 88 jumping he will win you most headers he contests. He can be used as a lethal weapon from corners as well as he has 94 heading accuracy.
9.4/10
PACE:
His pace overall is average for a CB, I was hoping EA gave him minimum of 80 pace, but sadly that wasn’t the case. When further boosted with the Catalyst chemistry style, it goes up to from 75 Sprint Speed to 85 SS with 84 Acceleration! He feels more like 78-80 pace in-game with the chemistry style boost to be completely honest.
Overall, his pace simply isn’t good enough for gameplay at a competitive level. Mbappe, Neymar, Rashford and such other quick meta cards could outpace him effortlessly in a straight line sprint. His recovery speed isn’t the greatest if you drag him out of position (this is partly due to his poor balance and agility stats) and won’t be able to catch up to strikers with 90+ pace if they’re level or if they have a slight lead on him.
7/10
PASSING:
His passing was alright on either foot. But, he takes a while to play a pass. That could be problematic when you need to make quick passes under pressure. I had a couple of instances where he got pressed while playing a pass and lost possession around my own box.(This is partly due to his extremely poor balance, agility and dribbling stats) So I’d advise you’ll to try to play the ball with him as quickly as you can and that should serve you well.
7/10
DRIBBING:
A combination of his extremely poor balance, agility and dribbling statistics make him a clunky dribbler. Luckily, his body type isn’t the worst and he isn’t the tallest defender either, hence, his smaller frame in-game serves him well, as it boosts his overall manoeuvrability. Hence, jockeying and changing direction with him quickly wasn’t turtle-like, but it wasn’t super responsive either.
