82 - IF
4.5
Just wow...
By Catalaantje, 14-10-2020

Some things never change in FIFA, and one of them is certainly the importance of fast centre backs. This enables you to catch up with fast strikers and correct a positional mistake. During the first matches of FIFA 21, I realized the need of it even more. Therefore, I bought IF Upamecano with shadow on him (140k at the moment) and coupled him up with Klostermann. As the title already says, I was amazed by how good this couple was.

  • Pace

With a shadow, IF Upamecano goes up to a blistering 81 acceleration, and 97 (!) sprint speed, which makes him one of the fastest center backs of the game. This is really handy because people often like to play with pacy strikers. When your centre backs aren't fast enough, the opponent can sometimes score just by sprinting past your defense. It gives peace of mind when you know this won't happen thanks to your rapid defenders.

  • Strength

In addition to that, the French centre back is able to push strikers of the ball without any difficulty thanks to his 93 strength. This strength is shown through the winning of headers, or by simply pushing the striker of the ball. Crosses, goal kicks or duels are thus not a problem to deal with when having Upamecano in defense.

  • Interceptions

It seems like Dayot is always at the right place. His ability to read the game, and intercept the ball often leads to quick counters thanks to his good passing. He is the type of defender to intervene the ball just before the striker is able to touch it. This makes it possible to retrieve the ball fast, and not let e.g. Ben Yedder, Martial or Fati control the ball and catch speed.

  • Links

Upamecano is easy to link in the Bundesliga, and far beyond. Not only can you link him with his German friend Klostermann, you could also opt for the cheaper Lucas Hernandez in the centre of your defense. The fact that he's a French even gives you the opportunity to put Lenglet, Varane or other beasts next to him. The choice is extensive and completely up to you!

  • Price

Although this Upamecano card is certainly one of the best centre backs of the game at the moment, it is still an expensive card to buy due to his price of 190k. Excluding icons, he is currently the third most expensive centre back in the game after Van Dijk and Varane.
