He changed the way I play this game...
By Byntor, 30-11-2020

Hey everybody, this is my first ever review and it's about my absolut favourite striker KEVIN VOLLAND. This should tell you how absurd this card is for me.

I started this year playing with a Ligue 1 team and kept playing with it because of amazing SBCs like Koscielny and later Bamba, Mollet and Atal. I mostly didn't want to play with all those meta players like Varane. Mendy and Gomez, just wanted to play something totally different and fun. That's also the reason I started using Volland - he just showed up in my red picks.

But first: What Division and WL Rank do normally play at? This year im playing Div. 1 with around 2000 skill rating, normally finishing WL around 20-23 wins. No Squad Battles.

What team do I use: My squad is linked. Ingame I play a 4-4-1-1 with Sanches and Florenzi as my CMs, Bamba as my LM, Mollet at RM, Depay as CF and Kevin Volland as my ST.

I began using Volland after getting him as my red pick. I took Ben Yedder - who I played before that - out and started using Kevin Volland with a hunter chem style upfront. Right now I have played 127 games with him in which he scored 138 goals and provided 73 assists. He's no dribbler like Yedder but he gets the job done well. His strength helps him get past defenders with ease, he can even hold off someone like Varane while totally destroying weaker defenders like Koundé RTTF. His agility is good for a player his size (and weight) and combined with his high balance it is hard to take the ball off him. You can either use him for shielding the ball around the box or holding off defenders while running towards the goal. With the hunter chem style he's actually really quick, being able to start deep runs and leave CBs behind. But the most amazing thing about Volland is his finishing. His 4* WF feels like 5* WF ingame, he can finish from everywhere inside the box using either foot. If you like getting in a few crosses he's able to win headers too. The thing that makes Volland that dangerous in front of goal is his long shots. Get him some space to fire one of his rocket-like shots towards goal and it's almost always on goal. All of this sounds amazing, right? But it get's even better. Even when you can't get a pass to Volland he's creating dangerous situations with his amazing positioning. He's always starting runs, getting in behind and pressuring the defense, opening a lot of space for the rest of your team to create chances.

There are just two negatives with this card: He's missing 4* Skills and he's tracking back a lot. To prevend him from doing that just use tactics - worked well for me.

I know this card is mainly used as fodder but I would advise you: Give him a try.

  • 3* Skills
  • Maybe dribbling - but let's be honest - he's no Ben Yedder

Goal banger

I am a modest FIFA player (div 4, WL gold 2). I don't remember why I bought him, I was probably looking for alternatives in my Di Maria - Depay Ligue 1 attack (in a 4-4-2), and he was cheap enough (15,000 at the time).

He was initially a sub, but each time he came in, oh my... to my disbelief he was piling up goals and assists. He is now in my starting 11, playing up front with Aouar (Freeze SBC). I play in 4-4-2, I don't know if he would be valuable as a lone striker.

I didn't anticipate he would become my main striker. People who play against him must be shocked too, when he bags a hat-trick. My team plays for him, setting him up for goals. Why is that? Because he is lethal in front of goal, and with his strength if he gets in front of a defender, it is game over. Defenders like Gomez used to bully my strikers, now with Volland it feels like payback. For a 84 overall, he is really decent.

Needless to say, I play with hunter chem style.

With hunter chem style:

Decent pace

Lethal finishing

Strength

Positioning

4* weak foot, feels like a natural on his right foot

Stamina (I never need to sub him, despite a high/high work rate)

Acceleration

Slow to dribble and turn, 3* skill moves

Agility

Surprisingly I have not banged many headers with him
