87 - Rare
3.5
87 rated GK for almost nothing? Let's check him
By Retenless, 15-10-2020

A goalkeeper with 90 diving, 90 reflexes and 87 overall - sounds great!

But it's Keylor Navas... all of the FUT players know, that he is always not that good in game. 185 cm wasn't enough for a goalkeeper in all of the other FIFA games. Let's check him in FIFA 21.

Let me start with saying, that he is for sure better than You think!

Why Keylor Navas?

Do You remember why didn't You use short GK in previous FIFA games? Yes, because of the longshots. Short GK was just poor in that aspect of a game. But now think about longshots that You've conceded in last 5-10 games in FIFA 21. EA made longshots much hard to perform because of defenders blocking shots and changed gameplay. In that situation you may try using a short GK like Keylor Navas.

Overall goalkeeping in normal situations:

Navas is just good. Not bad, not great. He saves shots, which are not perfectly made. And also he has a problem with really good timed shots, made from correct positions.

1v1 situations:

It depends on a shooter. If You opponents just wants to shoot near Navas, there is a chance that our GK will save it. That's definetly a good thing in Navas. But there is also one of two biggest cons - some of the experienced FUT players know, that he is a little bit too short. So they decide to lob him and it works. You have to be very carefull when you are running with Navas out of your goal - You can't run too far away.

Corners:

There is his biggest disadvantage. In 9 of 10 situations even if You move him to the center, he won't be trying to punch/catch a ball kicked from a corner. Good thing is that nowadays not too many players know how to use corners for scoring, so I didn't lost as much goals as You would think from corners.

Keeping shots, which should be 100% goals:

And here he is with 90 diving and 90 reflexes. Many times, when I thought, that I will lose a goal from a shot, Navas was a hero. He made some absolutely insane saves and I didn't play with any other GK that good in this situations. And to be precise - it doesn't work in every shot. Sometimes he will concede a goal - just like all of the goalkeepers. But sometimes he will save 3 points for You.

Starting an action:

Navas has an ability for throwing long throws. It's usefull, but You have to be carefull, becasue nowadays players like to play with aggresive pressing. Sometimes You may throw a ball to a player and then lose it immediately. Kicking is just good - standard level.

Positoning:

With score of only 82 in this attribute, there is no problem to find a GK better in positioning than Navas. I was pretty scared, but Navas does his job. I didn't feel like his positioning is bad - just standard. Remember to master using a right analog to save more situations where it's clear in which direction shot will be made.

Price:

Navas costs from 13 to 18 k in all of the platforms. For a 87 rated GK. For a GK with 2 base stats of 90. Should I say anything more?

So that's it. Navas in this year is a very solid option. It's cheap and very solid. But his nationality and league makes it almost impossible to use him with other CB than from French league.
