Hey guys, after revamping my squad during TOTY, I picked up IF Virgil Van Dijk to partner TOTY Ruben Dias at CB, with mid Van der Sar behind them. After about 100 games with both, I feel like I've gotten a good feel for the card's strengths and weaknesses.

300k for this card is decent value, but it's inflated due to him playing in the Prem, so just keep that in mind.

Pace (sprint speed) (9/10): If Virgil gets a running start on any attackers trying to get in behind, he will catch them 9/10 times (the 1 time being Mbappe glitching through as he usually does). Using shadow to get maxed out sprint speed with Virgil is really important, as his poor acceleration can sometimes lead to him being wrecked by small players with good acceleration.

Passing (8/10): CBs being able to play out from the back is really important this year, and Virgil is an adequate passer for the most part. His 80 short passing feels solid and he rarely misplaces easy passes, but his long passing left a little to be desired, so try and stick with easy passes.

Defending (10/10): I mean it's Van Dijk. With a shadow his defensive stats are all either 99 or close to 99, and it definitely shows in game. His positioning is basically perfect (as long as you don't drag him out of position), and I've lost track of how many impossible last ditch tackles he's made to save me from certain goals. He is an absolute bully, and sometimes pressing circle while next to an attacker will make Virgil shoulder charge him into oblivion. Definition of an auto defender.

Physical (10/10): Don't worry about the low stamina, it's never been an issue for me. Again, he performs as the stats advertise – never loses aerial battles or shoulder to shoulder challenges (except when you're playing against DDA, which is gonna happen anyway), while his aggression also feels way higher than 85 – he consistently initiates auto tackles when I'm not even controlling him and wins the ball back.

Pace (acceleration) (5/10): Virgil's acceleration is very poor, and it's hard for him to win footraces if he doesn't get a running start. If you're going to manually defend with him, I would suggest leaving the opponent a couple yards extra in case they go for any quick flicks or dribbles, as his long legs and frame normally helps him win the ball back in close contact situations.

Dribbling (6/10): Virgil is also quite clunky as shown by his 62 agility and 54 balance. His agility is to be expected for a 6'4 player, but I found that his balance made him occassionally fall when AI players would run into him (while you're not controlling him). He's never going to dribble past anybody, so it's best to win the ball back and immediately look to distribute to your midfielders or fullbacks.

Shooting (N/A): I've never shot with him, and headers are ridiculously hard to score this FIFA, so nothing much to say here.

88 Sprint speed is a saviour

Virgil Van Dijk. Insane defender. Used him next to moments maldini in weekend league and the partnership was insane. Wins every tackle he goes into, intercepts anything close to him, can be beat by through balls though so some manual run tracking is helpful. Feels good enough on the ball for a CB and usually passes the ball well enough. Scored a few headers off corners as well so that was a bonus

He just EATS people alive

This man is the GOAT in my defense. I was lucky enough to pack him in my prime gaming pack and have played 96 games with him by now. First I was a bit concerned about his pace (sad enough), when opponents using meta CB's with 85 pace all time. But now I'm just overwhelmed how good VVD is.
