Robert "not setting the" Tone
By Unleashed93, 20-10-2022

I was very excited upon release of this card given Robertone's green link to my IF Correa. At the time of this review, he has the second most in-game stats in La Liga, which I thought meant he would boss my midfield. I had him playing as the RCM in a 4-3-3 attacking, with his instructions as stay-back, using an anchor chemistry style to boost his defensive and physical attributes. With his defensive attributes, I wanted him to be my main defensive presence in front of my backline (to work as a sweeper). In summary, I was very disappointed in his ability to close space in the midfield, as well as intercept and disrupt my opponents. I'll detail these issues below:

Dribbling: For a box-to-box CM, or even as a holding CDM, his dribbling and ball control was really solid. He felt smooth on the ball and his touches were mostly clean.

Passing: His passes were fairly accurate - not an elite level but usable.

Stamina: 90 stamina at this point in the game is solid for midfield.

Links: Argentina & La Liga links are nice for fitting in Correa, Messi, etc.

Defensive play, Height & Defensive Movement: I put all three of these cons together, as all work together to explain my frustrations with this card. Robertone is fairly short for the midfield meta this year. Being only 5'9", he is "just short" of making interceptions A LOT! This is a big problem when I need him to be my main defensive enforcer. Although the card isn't slow, he also wasn't quick enough to disrupt passing lanes, as he seemed to always be "catching up" as opposed to "setting the tone" - pun indented. His standing tackles were mediocre - something several gold rare cards that trade for 2,000 coins could do. He seemed to knock the ball away a lot, but only to the point to where the dribbler could recover - he had trouble actually taking possession - which I assume also has to do with his short stature. For the price (50,000) at the time of this review, he is extremely overpriced and doesn't even come close to comparing to the likes of Llorente, Valverde, De Jong, or Goretzka. I'd look elsewhere for a Weekend League ready midfielder, as he doesn't play up what his stats show on paper.

I've played with this card for a week now and I just can't believe how cheap he is for what he provides! I think it's the links, but honestly that doesn't matter to me with 5 more LA liga players.

Great at both attacking and defending and just STICKS somehow to attackers when defending. He just has this player model in game that's moving really nicely with L2 + R2 and gets the ball 90% of the time. Long shots are easily scoreable with him especially with L2 and the passing is fenomenal to get attackers behind the opposition defense.

Just a great all rounder, excels in defending and shooting!

  • Explosive pace
  • Very nice on the ball

Finishing in the box could be better, but he rarely got there while playing as a CM or CDM, maybe 3 times at most

CHEAP Argentine Kante

Lucas Robertone's rulebreaker card is easily one of my favorite midfield cards in the game so far. The face card stats are well rounded but his endgame stats are actually very good for this stage of the game. His dribbling is very smooth and with him being an explosive type player he's very swift on the ball and also winning the ball back countless times. Great at breaking up play and starting counter attacks because of his pace and even though his passing is 79, he is still able to deliver key passes to my attacking mids or strikers. His height can be issue if you're using 2 small midfieldiers, but if you have a taller CDM to pair him with than I don't think it will be too noticeable. With the card being under 40k on all consoles I think there isn't a cdm in that price range that holds a candle to Lucas.
