For the people who can't read but can complain: It's a gift and no they aren't upgradable. Why do we get these? Because there will be objectives to complete with these card. Can you use it as fodder? Yes you can, but then you can't complete the objectives. Or you buy one at the market but you don't want to do that because you are already pissed off while these are shit cards for you. Everything clear now? Fine!
