Took a bit to get the best out of him myself. He's not the fastest, so don't try and outpace defenders. Use his technical dribbling instead, R1 dribble to create space and a good finesse angle and he can score from crazy distance/angles. Basically spam R1 dribbling and finesse shots and you'll score some crazy goals.

Depends what you want out of your CDM. Essien is more the destroyer type, Marchisio more press resistant and deep lying playmaker type. They're both similarly priced, so best to try both and see what you prefer.
