TOTW 11 presents a somewhat mediocre lineup but with so many players in the current promotion that was always likely to occur. We do have a couple of noteworthy mentions, with Malcom’s Neymar link, Trent’s crucial goal in the title race, Hernandez’s penalty and a dominant performance from Hansen.
Lucas Chevalier - GK - 78 > 83 OVR
Five saves and clean sheet / Lyon 0 - Lille 2 / 8 L’equipe Rating
In a week with minimal standout performances in Ligue 1, no player managed to contribute to more than one goal in L'Équipe's Team of the Week. Chevalier earned the joint-highest rating of 8, thanks to several crucial saves that played a key role in maintaining Lille's clean sheet.
Theo Hernandez - LB - 85 > 86 OVR
Goal and clean sheet / AC Milan 1 - Fiorentina 0 / 7 Gazzetta Rating
Hernandez has been awarded several debatable IF’s in the past and is now in line for another cheap one. Serie A's options were limited and so were defenders. Killing two birds with one stone the Frenchman makes my side after his penalty was the deciding factor.
Pau Torres - CB - 83 > 86 OVR
One goal / Tottenham 1 - Aston Villa 2 / 8 Sky Rating
It was only earlier this week that Unai Emery emphasized the importance of Pau Torres on his side. The Spaniard repaid that praise instantly scoring Villa’s first goal as they came from behind to beat Tottenham 2-1.
Trent Alexander-Arnold - RB - 86 > 87 OVR
One goal and MOTM / Manchester City 1 - Liverpool 1 / 8 Sky Rating
I believe Liverpool are the only side who could potentially stop City’s domination this season at a push. Despite City securing an early lead courtesy of the customary scorer Haaland, a late equaliser materialised through an exceptional goal by Trent Alexander-Arnold. The high-profile matches often require less for an IF inclusion, thus TAA looks like a good bet.
Domenico Berardi - RM - 85 > 88 OVR
Two goals / Empoli 3 - Sassuolo 4 / 7.5 Gazzetta Rating
A seven-goal thriller ensued between two unlikely candidates Empoli and Sassuolo. The away side came out on top and supplied a couple of IF options in the process. My preference leans towards Berardi to receive his second of the game with his last-minute winner securing his brace and the match.
Dries Mertens - CAM - 81 > 85 OVR
Two goals, one assist / Galatasaray 4 - Alanyaspor 0 / 9.5 Sofascore Rating
Several options this week are poised for lower-rated IF’s than previous promotional items. Mertens is one of those but after three-goal contributions during a convincing 4-0 win the Belgian is expected to make the side with ease.
Malcom - CAM - 81 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Al-Hazem 0 - Al-Hilal 9 / 10 Sofascore Rating
The biggest win of the weekend came from Saudi with Al-Hilal recording a 9-0 triumph. Malcolm was a popular evolution early on for the Neymar link and the Brazilian now looks set to outdo that card, especially if he receives the featured upgrade.
Fabian Ruiz - CM - 81 > 85 OVR
One assist / PSG 5 - Monaco 2 / 8 L’equipe Rating
Despite no standout performance in terms of goals and assists there were a couple of eight-match ratings to boast about for PSG after their convincing 5-2 win. Ruiz was one of those after providing an assist during the seven-goal thriller.
Caroline Graham Hansen - RW - 90 > 91 OVR
One goal, three assists / Bilbao (W) 0 - Barcelona (W) 4 / 10 Sofascore Rating
At this point, we should be expecting a Barcelona inclusion every week. Now with ten wins from ten and a colossal goal difference of +41, they are simply on a different level to any other side in the division. It was Hansen’s turn to shine as the winger was involved in all four of their goals.
Khadija Shaw - ST - 85 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Man City (W) 7 - Tottenham (W) 0 / 9.4 Sofascore Rating
It was all one-way traffic during the WSL clash between Man City and Tottenham. Shaw recorded an early hat trick with all three of her goals coming during the first half. City then went on to record another four but it was the Jamaican’s early form which set the tone.
Morales - ST - 79 > 86 OVR
Hat trick / Villarreal 3 - Osasuna 1 / 9.3 Sofascore Rating
The second featured upgrade of the week goes the way of Morales. Although his card is inferior to what he have previously seen with the upgrade it does re-establish him as a usable option. The Spaniard ran the show on Sunday with his hat trick being the deciding factor.
Substitutes
Kristoffer Haugen - LB - 70 > 84 OVR
One goal, one assist / Sarpsborg 1 - Molde 3 / MOTM
A second IF from the Norwegian division is not something you would have been expecting, especially from a defensive option. However, Huagen’s continued attacking displays could help this happen. With both a goal and an assist he helped guide Molde to another three points.
Alexandru Mitrita - CAM - 72 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Otelu 1 - Craiova 3 / MOTM
We are yet to see if the Romanian division can receive IF’s but Mitrita will be a good test for that. The Romanian scored all three of his side's goals during a 3-1 away win.
Marcus Tavernier - LM - 75 > 83 OVR
Two goals / Sheffield United 1 - Bournemouth 3 / 8 Sky Rating
Both Sheffield United and Bournemouth were in desperate need of points, making this a real six-point clash. It was the away side which came out on top as 3-1 winners with a brace from Marcus Tavernier playing a pivotal role.
Anthony Gordon - LW - 75 > 83 OVR
Goal and assist / Newcastle 4 - Chelsea 1 / 8 Sky Rating
Chelsea endured another disheartening defeat, this time at the hands of an impressive Newcastle side. Although there was no clear-cut IF option Gordon seems to be the best candidate. The English winger scored once and assisted another.
Mohamed Sankoh - ST - 64 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Almere 0 - Heracles 5 / 8 VI Rating
The first of two Eredivisie strikers making the side is Sankoh. We have already seen a player go from bronze to gold so we know it's a possibility and after Sankoh scored three times he stands a strong chance.
Ilya Shkurin - ST - 66 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Pogon 2 - Stal Mielec 3 / 9.2 Sofascore Rating
Despite several divisions being overlooked for receiving IF’s this year, Poland is one of the few lower divisions to survive. They have regularly picked up special items and look set for another after Shkurin bagged a treble on Saturday.
Santiago Gimenez - ST - 78 > 83 OVR
Hat trick / Excelsior 2 - Feyenoord 4 / 8 VI Rating
Gimenez’s POTM card will make this inclusion underwhelming but the Mexican continued his good form for Feyenoord this season with another three goals to his name. With sixteen goals in just thirteen matches his latest performance simply reaffirms his prolific goalscoring form.
