We’re coming to the end of FC 24 and to round off the year we’re going to recap each month's SBC highlights and pick out our FC 24 SBC Hall of Fame. It’s clear some players are very favoured by the content team, with one in particular taking the top spot in two separate months!
September - Flashback Kevin De Bruyne
We kicked off the year with a special KDB card before the game was even fully out. First day of Early Access… BOOM Flashback De Bruyne. The guy stayed in teams right up to Team of The Year and once he started to fit into Evolutions, made his way back onto the scene. It was some way to start FC 24 and we would not complain with something similar for 25.
October - Base Laurent Blanc
October really was the start of repetitive Champs teams, Blanc x VVD arose in October and no one ever looked back… These two were in at least 90% of teams we faced this month and we can’t blame them.
November - RTTK Selma Bacha
Queen Semla’s first special card was her 88 RTTK card in November, and was in plenty of teams for a good while. The Whipped Pass PS+ was huge and proved to be a lethal combination with some of our taller striker options.
December - Winter Wildcards Kai Havertz
It’s his first of two appearances in the list and had plenty of competition with a series of WW SBCs released daily towards the end of the month. King Kai slotted in at left back and provided another option for those who missed out on Bacha. Another Whipped Pass+ Left Back really showed us which players were at the top of the power curve at this time.
January - Team of The Year Homare Sawa
Sawa’s base card was already hard enough to play against, so obviously she was given a Team of The Year item in SBCs. It’s fair to say this was a must complete and was completed by near enough every FC 24 player. She remained in teams until her 2 PS+s were phased out and overtaken, but we won’t forget the impact she had for months.
February - Fantasy FC Timo Werner
Fantasy FC was a very popular promo and actually meant we had to watch Spurs to stay on top of this item. His 89 version was already good enough, but then unlocked a further 3 and upgraded to 92. It was well and truly Timo Time with this card destroying defences without even giving them a chance.
March - Fantasy FC Fridolina Rolfo
This is the one. Rolfo hands down takes home SBC of the year. Just like Werner she started as an 89 but unlocked 4 upgrades in just two matches. We were all tuning into those Barcelona matches in the hopes of an upgrade and she delivered.
April - TOTS Live Kai Havertz
We said he’s return and after the success his Winter Wildcard SBC had, he was rewarded with a TOTS card in the first promo of the run. Team of The Season Live made its debut this year and went down very well. No more than Kai Havertz, 5 of the 6 goals needed for an upgrade were scored in one match against Chelsea!
May - Showdown Joselu
This SBC takes top spot for the month purely for the impact it had on the pro scene. We had professional players rocking up with this card in his obvious position… Right Back. The Aerial meta took over towards the end of the game and no one is a better representation of this than Joselu, hopefully we don’t have to see this card in FC 25 as he’s left to head to Qatar.
June - Make Your Mark Xavi Simons
There were quite a few options to choose from but we’ve gone for Xavi Simons, running up close was Arda Guler. Make Your Mark was a great promo and offered some incredible players and really got us more involved in the Euros. Started as a 95 and unlocked 3 upgrades as the tournament progressed.
July - Team of The Tournament Emi Martinez
Emi Martinez has really put himself on the world stage in the last few years and his performances were rewarded with a 97 card this month. Goalkeepers can be questionable at times but we never found issues with Emi and stuck in some quality performances.
August - Futties Mia Hamm
After her Team of The Year card killed us all year, we were all treated to a 30 segment, 99 rated SBC. With unlimited 84 and 85x10s this card was very easy to complete with a bit of a grind and rounds off a fantastic year for Squad Building Challenges.
Special shoutout to the Exchange SBCs, which have been a very welcome addition and one we hope to see again in 25 (but with a higher rating than 89).
