FC 25 90 FUT Birthday Mbappe Player Review - Cop or Flop

Week one is now under wraps for the FUT Birthday promo and sadly, i’ve got to say it’s starting to fall into that “lackluster” feeling that a lot of the beloved promos seem to be getting. Evo content has been superb, and whilst i’m a big fan of the nostalgic cosmetics we have been getting.. Something about there being behind a price tag doesn’t sit right with me. Especially when we lose that cosmetic as soon as the selected card goes into an additional evo.

It’s not all doom and gloom, though! Today EA dropped an absolute banger of an SBC and it’s an Mbappe SBC that’s under 100k to complete! Of course, it is Ethan Mbappe and not Kylian. But this SBC comes in the form of another “choice” themed SBC. One being a Striker and the other being a midfielder. The striker card can also play the LW position with the midfield option being a CM/CDM card.

Typically I am an absolute sucker for a flashy new striker. But the first thing to catch my eye with these two cards was the playstyle pluses. For me, the Midfield option has far superior playstyles for it’s position to the striker. It comes with Pinged Pass and Tiki Taka+ which for a central midfielder is massive. The striker option coming with Rapid was a great start but had that Chip Shot+ been finesse instead, they might have had me. So my choice here is the CM version.

Considering this is the first special card for Ethan Mbappe and his base is a bronze, this is a massive upgrade. 5*/5* for weak foot and skill moves. +25s as a minimum for stat boosts with a few +30s in there as well. This is a juicy boost for this item and I can’t wait to see how he plays in-game.

The chemstyle I opted for here was the Anchor. I knew I didn’t want him in the defensive midfield position but I also knew he wouldn’t be pushing too far up into the CAM position for me. So boosting up the Defending and Physicals was important whilst also lightly nudging the pace at the same time.

Only two segments in total here with the price tag coming in at just 75k to complete. No much to discuss around the price here. Incredibly value for me and the fact that this does not require any TOTW cards is a huge bonus for me.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Passing was incredibly impressive. Being able to utilise both pinged pass and tiki taka playstyle plus made this guy a menace in midfield. His passes were so precise and created such easy goals for the attackers. He was also able to fire the ball upfield so quickly that the opposition struggled to react in time before they had conceded.

+ Pace was really nice, for a CM he moved up and down the field at great speed

+ Positionally he was solid. Mixed in with his pace he was able to push forward and track back on the counter quickly and efficiently. He was quick to intercept the ball, too.

+ Dribbling was near enough perfect for me. He controlled the ball really well under pressure and was able to manouver around the opposition with ease.

+ His shooting looks like it could go under the radar too with having only 84 shooting at this stage of the game. But having 90 shot power amongst that meant he was able to put real force into his shots creating some tidy goals that would quickly slot past the keeper.

Mbappe - Cop or Flop?

This SBC is a quick and easy cop for me. The price tag alone sells it for me as it’s easy enough to craft without making much of a dent in your club. But the card in itself was incredible. I was worried he may not get in my team but he absolutely earned his place for me. Personally I feel that this midfield option is far superior over the striker. The latter is a nice item but the playstyles is what did it for me. There are many attacking options with a better PS+ combo so the midfield option is absolutely clear. 

I can’t wait to get this man reunited with his brother and watch them terrorise the opposition. Get this SBC before you regret it!
