FIFA 23 Rulebreaker PP Sheraldo Becker 86 SBC - Cop or Flop?

After my first Cop or Flop on a Player Pick SBC nearly ended a long term friendship (sorry Viperlization), I’m approaching this SBC with a little trepidation. We’re of course talking about the Union assassin, Sheraldo Becker!

Check out the cards! - Becker 86 - Lengthy Version   |   Becker 86 - Controlled Version

Tackling this SBC requires us to first answer one of life’s great mysteries, a question men (and people with male appendages) have asked themselves for many years. Does Length matter?

EA really seemed to be testing the communities appetite for length with this SBC as the controlled Becker, in my opinion, looks infinitely better than the lengthy version. However both have had monster upgrades from the 76 base card and add a genuinely quality striking option to your Bundesliga set ups.

Player Pick Becker SBC Requirements

Here are the following SBC Requirements you’ll need to complete for the Becker PP SBC:

#1 - Bundesliga

Bundesliga Players - Min 1

Min 85 OVR - Min 2

Squad Rating - Min 83

Reward - Gold Pack

#2 - 84 Rated Squad

Min 86 OVR - Min 2

Squad Rating - Min 84

Reward - Mixed Players Pack

Total Cost from scratch ~ 69K

Average Return From Packs ~ 8k

This is such a well priced SBC. I think there are reasons for this which we’ll cover later on, but this is another perfect price point with very reasonable requirements for a fun player.

At 69k (now now children) with around 8k back, Sheraldo comes in at almost exactly the same price as Nkunku and slightly cheaper than Mario Gomez. There really isn’t another Bundesliga striker that can hold a candle to Becker until you get to the high ticket Heroes Voller and Smoller.

It’s tough to really say much more on the price than it’s just decent value. It’s not 25k Hero Pack cheap, but it’s a really solid price for the player you are getting. If you are running a Bundesliga side, this fills a gaping hole in the options up front. For me, definitely value for coins.

Player Pick Becker SBC Analysis

However, let’s focus on the cards themselves. Besides name, nationality and club, the cards only share 3 things, shooting, work rates and positions.

Both have 85 shooting and the stat distribution is fairly solid. 87 finishing and 90 shot power are very good starting points. I would like to boost the 82 positioning however. Both cards have Med/Low work rates. This isn’t ideal for sure, but it’s not absolutely deal breaking for me. Both cards can play CF and RM as well as their starting position of striker and whilst I wouldn’t suggest playing them at RM, they both have solid crossing stats at 90 and 85.

We now have to talk about the differences. And they are stark. And with winter coming, one of these cards is giving me the shivers. I’m going to refer to them as Lengthy Becker and Controlled Becker. Our first difference is that LB has 3 star skill moves and 4 star weak foot with CB being flipped at 4/3. This is more of a personal choice and I think both remove and add as much as each other. If you rely heavily on skills, then CB is the option, if you like confidently shooting and passing off either foot then LB will be better here.

The rest of the stats present a far more varied decision however. LB has 4 more pace, 4 more passing, 5 more defending, 12 less dribbling and 3 less physical than his controlled twin. The absolute standout here is the dribbling. LB doesn’t have a dribbling stat higher than 76 whilst CB has +13 in every stat bar composure where he has just a +2. The problem here is that, in order to improve this dribbling noticeably, you have to sacrifice lengthy. This for me just immediately rules out lengthy Becker.

When we look at controlled Becker, he has everything you want in a pacey striker. Good pace, solid shooting, great dribbling and slapping physicals. Whilst he may not be lengthy, controlled is more than good enough for strong and pacey strikers. With a deadeye, controlled Becker is just superb. 90 positioning, 95 finishing, 99 shot power is coupled with 95 short passing and high 80’s in agility, balance and dribbling.

Which One To Take?

I don’t think I’ve left much to the imagination here. Controlled Becker for me is the go to. I would look upon someone who has gone for the lengthy version in the same way I look at people with huge cars who live in a city, “what are you compensating for?”.

With no chem style truly able to save such terrible dribbling and with the pay off being a minor pace and passing increase and a useless +5 in defending, the only option here is controlled Becker.

How Does He Compare?

Now that we’ve settled on which Becker. We come to the question of do you wanna Sheraldo?

When we compare Controlled Becker to Nkunku and Gomez, we find 3 very different styles of player. Nkunku is a very techy attacker, with 5 star skill moves and by far the best passing of the 3, he is arguably more of a second striker or even a CAM. Where Becker excels against both of his closest rivals is really the all round package. He has the best pace, middling shooting and passing, dribbling to rival Nkunku and physicals that blow Gomez out of the water. It really feels like his 1 in International Reputation has allowed for better stats across the board whilst keeping his card rating low.

Now we come to the biggest sticking point for me, links. Until we get a reminisce version of Klaiber, another special Mac-Intosh or EA put a banging Donk on it, Suriname really isn’t offering anything by way of links. It may also surprise you to find out, there isn’t a Surinamese manager. This brings me to a separate point, we really need a manager from every nation. I like the new chemistry system, but it’s made managers far more important for chemistry and we need parity across the nations.

Unfortunately, the links don’t get any better when we move to Union Berlin. Despite slaying the Bundesliga at the moment, they don’t have a single player you could comfortably pair with Becker. Maybe we get a special Trimmel at some point which could offer you the club link but who knows how long you’ll have to wait for that!

So you need 8 chemistry ticks for the Bundesliga, 7 basic players and maybe a couple less if you have a Bundesliga hero. It’s for this reason that I believe the SBC is as cheap as it is. If this was a French striker from the Prem, the price would probably be more like 169k.

Becker Rulebreakers PP SBC - Cop or Flop?

With just 74% Upvotes, you seem to be on the same line as me in thinking that it’s a well-priced, fun SBC. YungMcgee69420 (what a name) has captured the feeling around linking this card fairly well. However…

*puts on 12-year-old hat (no, child from the comments of Messi Cop or Flop, I’m not 12, I’m 29)*

L + Ratio McGee, WillSadler has got you good there.

I have played a bunch of games with this card and it’s just good fun to use. The biggest surprise to me was how much I felt his physicality. 94 strength meant he was very difficult to dispossess and once he was in front of a defender, they tended not to get back ahead. 77 composure is very noticeable too unfortunately. Not game-breakingly bad, just mildly infuriating.

Rather like Falcao, in terms of pricing, fun-ness and all-round quality, I’m not sure you’ll find much Becker than this SBC.

SBC Rating – 8.5/10
