FIFA 23 Ivan Perišić Out of Position Player Review

The idea of the Out of Position promo is one that really strikes my interest. Truthfully I was hoping EA went a bit mad with the whole thing, Kyle Walker at GK breaking the internet on a Friday evening. Despite a more tame release, there were still some cards that definitely piqued interest and offered potential solutions for squad building challenges.

So far this year we have not witnessed a closer vote for these reviews over on Twitter… Theo Hernandez just squeezing a narrow victory over Ivan Perišić … watch for Theo in days to come, an interesting card forsure.  

If you follow your fair share of FUT Twitter, then by now you would have heard a lot about this card. The difficulty comes from the fact that it has borderline reached meme status and has become unclear what is genuine praise and who has 15 Perišić waiting in their transfer list.

Hopefully the next 5 minutes can shine some light on the results of using Perišić in legitimate gameplay this weekend. For starters, due to my own difficulty deciding where to play Perišić, this review will cover his abilities as a ST, LAM, RAM & Box to Box CM… all in the 4-2-2-2 formation.

While I realize the choice to use Perišić in the midfield was an easy one for many, I wasn’t so easily sold and still am not quite sure where he operated best for me.

The chemistry style was not a difficult choice, with the Lengthy meta still being debated, I opted for the ARCHITECT chemistry style.

Regardless of positions, you are getting performance and you are getting goal contributions.

14 goals and 7 assists in 15 matches is an impressive enough return for a striker… but while the constant position changes altered Perišić’s overall effect on matches… it never hindered his goal contributions.

I am definitely interested in what everyone feels is the perfect position for Perišić.  Let me know in the comments where you are deploying the big man and how he is performing in your squads.

Traits: Outside Foot Shot

To start with, this card has just about every tool required to score from anywhere… and for the most part, they were consistently on display this weekend.

I shouldn’t really come as a surprise that Perišić is so clinical and contributed so many goals… considering he is the FINESSE SHOT trait away from the Deathly Hallows.

The 5 STAR WEAK FOOT was potent with power, while anything from distance was aided by the OUTSIDE FOOT trait and current trivela meta. The missing finesse trait was made even less trivial by the trivela, with the video certainly showing this preference which resulted in some fantastic goals.

The only downfall here comes from the choice to use an ARCHITECT to trigger the AcceleRATE type change… obviously omitting any chance at boosting the shooting category. The 82 FINISHING, 86 SHOT POWER & 80 LONG SHOTS all could have benefitted from the opportunity for a boost.

125k for this card feels like a steal… but the 108k that Perišić was selling for on Sunday is criminal. The “play anywhere” variety of in game statistics really impressed me with this card and offers intricate squad building opportunities.

Not only can Perišić play just about anywhere in your squad, the large variety of alternate positions makes the initial squad building an easier process as well.

Good vs. Bad

Versatility and quality, need I say more.

+ With a bigger body, 80 BALANCE & 80 AGILITY, this card should not have the quality on the ball that is displayed. But as a left-stick dribbler this card was actually so responsive. I am guessing the FLAIR trait is playing a factor while the 87 DRIBBLING & 90 REACTIONS are a big help. The 4 STAR SKILLS will also catch the eye of those with the golden hands.

+ This card is a physical specimen. 186cm | 6’1 with 99 STRENGTH & 99 JUMPING. While crossing is not exactly my game, he did contribute a couple of headed goals and wins everything in the air when deployed as a midfielder.

+ He can hurt you with his goals… hurt you with his physicality… but also has the class to hurt you with his passing. 92 VISION, 93 CROSSING, 91 LONG PASSING & a perfect 99 SHORT PASSING all contributed to my love of Perišić as a RAM.

While I felt I could go on forever with the positives… and I really should have mentioned how defensively sound this card is… it took a lot of thinking to come up with any negatives. This card is just so well-rounded.

- If you have used the likes of Konate, Tchouameni or Goretzka then you know the feeling. At times they simply have zero acceleration and feel completely stagnant when receiving the ball at a standstill. The 85 ACCELERATION could not propel Perišić forward with much speed. Once you get the big man in motion the 84 SPRINT SPEED feels like it is on steroids and you can fly around the pitch.

- The choice to make Perišić Lengthy means that other categories that would be insane given a boost, are left with “stock” numbers.

Closing Words

It is a card that certainly passes the eye test and 100% passed the Weekend League grind test.

While I wasn’t 100% sold with Perišić as a striker, his production and defensive coverage as a RAM and LAM was unbelievable. The solidity he provided my midfield was impressive while still contributing the odd goal or assist. The only regret that I have with this review was not carving out the time to play Perišić as a RB because there is no doubt in my mind he would be class there too.

Endless opportunities with this card and at a discount price. Definite must try for me. For those of you using the Spurs man… Which position and what formation are getting the job done for you?
