FIFA 23 TROPHY TITANS FORLAN PLAYER REVIEW

Roll on the Trophy Titans promo as Team 2 offered up yet another batch of usable options with some incredible pack weight.  While the odds of getting R9 are near impossible, the rest seem to be popping up left, right, and center resulting in some insanely low prices within hours of their release.

While the ICONs looked enticing it was actually a Trophy Titan Hero that caught the eye from the outset… If you have used World Cup Hero Diego Forlán then you will know all about the potential that this card has.  It wasn’t until recently that Forlán started to fall further and further out of my squad, but up until then had played hundreds of matches in a variety of positions.

In the past I have deployed Forlán in his normal striker position (both as the Get In Behind and False 9 operator), as both the LAM and RAM, and more surprisingly as the attacking CDM in the 4-2-2-2 formation.  In all cases he was able to do a fantastic job and all I hoped from Trophy Titan Forlán was the exact same card at the current power curve… And that is essentially exactly what I got.

The application of the ENGINE chemistry style made the most sense for this one as I opted to play the Uruguayan as the False 9 Striker in my 4-2-2-2 formation.  In the end it felt and performed as the right choice resulting in some fantastic returns.

Diego Forlán produced the trophy winning performances battling as all titans do as the frontman in the following squad:

Overall

It should be said that this is maybe the first review I have had this year where I avoided any 0 - 0 quits and all but one of my opponents lasted at least past half time.  Regardless, 16 goals and 4 assists in 7 matches is simply ridiculous.  The near 3.0 goal contributions per game is staggering and it was 100% a result of simply being too clinical for my opponents throughout the review.  There is so much to like about this card and again it is worth noting that this is just WCH Forlán with the boosts to function at the current standard.

Main Statistics – Goal Scoring

Pace Rating: 10/10

Dribbling Rating: 9/10

Shooting Rating: 9/10

Weak Foot: ★★★★

Similar to Lahm we are combining some statistics here which doesn’t leave much to discuss from the good/bad side of things… But the attacking package needs to be discussed in tandem for this one.

The ENGINE chemistry style really hit the mark and has Forlán flying.  The 97 ACCELERATION & 95 SPRINT SPEED actually perform better than advertised.  The CONTROLLED AcceleRATE type seems to be non-existent and everything just worked as you would hope.

The Acceleration though is what really stands out and on a 180cm | 5’11 card with an AVERAGE Body Type it just shouldn’t be this explosive on the take off.  Again, if you used WCH Hero Forlán this won’t be a surprise, but for FUT Managers new to Forlán it is a dream card that outperforms a lot of statistics and traditional ingame mechanics.

The fantastic Acceleration then has collateral effects on the Dribbling and again feels so smooth for such a big card.  The 91 AGILITY, 94 BALANCE & 97 DRIBBLING are responsive and silky in possession… The ability to jump out of dribbles offers a devastating offensive weapon.  Add in the 4 STAR SKILLS and all is just about perfect on the ball.

But all would be lost if the end product was not available after the pace and dribbling got Forlán into the dangerous areas of the pitch… Thankfully that was not the case with this card and the 16 goals just about cement that point.  The 95 Base Shooting statistics both lead to incredible finishing and allow the ENGINE to be applied in the first place.

Value/Coins

Value/Coins Rating: 5/5

It is clear that 540k for a card of this quality feels low upon a quick glance.  You consider the different squad building perks and that feeling only grows.  But if you then take the time to start entering some of the minimum statistics on this card you realize just how crazy of a deal you are getting.  Pace, Shooting and Dribbling alone bring up a small list of cards, the closest in price being TOTY Benzema at 2.3 million coins.  There is serious value in this card and I think that Forlán will once again be entering my squad for some time to come.

Good vs. Bad

Good vs Bad Rating: 5/5

Thankfully there is still a lot to discuss outside of goal scoring and just how good this card was in game.

+ As the False 9 Striker there were a ton of opportunities to test just how well the passing would stack up against some of the other forwards I have used.  In the past weeks FUT Birthday Nkunku has filled this role and honestly, I noticed zero difference in the end products.  Both cards benefit from stocky builds and decent size/strength to create the space needed… Followed by consistent execution.

+ As I said the size of Forlan made the 82 STRENGTH a noteworthy weapon, but again didn’t hinder the dribbling.  As a target striker there is not a much better combination that you could ask for.  Even with a bit more running required for the False 9 position the 91 STAMINA was plenty.

While it was a shining review, it was not perfect… Some small agitations that if removed would equal a multi-million coin increase.

- The Shooting led to a lot of goals and in general the misses were few and far between.  However, anytime you do not have a 5 STAR WEAK FOOT the potential for unexplainable weak foot misses will arise eventually.  Forlán was no different.  Similarly, the 16 goals highlight the fact that I did not notice any real issues with the lack of traits, but just how good would this card be if he had them?

- In line with the Shooting… the 5 STAR SKILLS (or lack thereof) is always going to be a game changer for some and for me the FLAIR Trait continues to be a huge influence on dribbling in difficult matches against difficult opponents.

Closing Words

In a nutshell, Forlán is a card that doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of many top cards in the game.  The lack of either 5 STAR WEAK FOOT or SKILLS mixed with a complete lack of traits does sell a fantastic card and a fantastic footballer well short.

In a weird way this review felt like someone sold you a Rolls Royce but as a base model package.  Sure all of the features would make it unbelievable, but in the end you still have a Rolls Royce and in this case for the price of a FIAT.
Hoping you are well.  Cheers for reading.
