FIFA 23 FUTTIES Haaland Player Review - COP or FLOP?

The end to the Futties Promo is near… And actually near! A whopping 6 week long promo?! I don’t think that’s ever been done before. But of course as of next week we will be entering the Level Up Promo for us all to unlock things “yet to be announced” to give us a good head start in FC 24.

It seems we are coming out of Futties with a bang because what a selection of players we have been given today! Multiple 99 rated cards and a bunch of new Futties Heroes Items as well. Most importantly, a lot of PREMIUM players amongst Team 6. Thank you EA!

But the player we are of course here to talk about today, is one of those 99 rated cards, which comes as an SBC no less! Erling Haaland! A 99 rated Haaland card!

The joy of this is that we of course still have the 84x10 SBC to grind this card so no matter the value here, we are able to work away at getting this card added to the club. But more importantly, is he a card that starts in your squad?

Now of course, an SBC of this caliber is going to be massive. To unlock Haaland, you have to complete a whopping 14 segments. But as mentioned, You have the 84x10 SBC to assist with this.

As mentioned earlier, a lot of the cards released today are coming in as Premium Items, Haaland falls into that category which to some, may be a bit unnecessary, but for me is perfect because it means he slots straight into my squad.

Just when I thought my main squad wouldn’t be changing, Haaland takes his place as my main striker alongside the likes of Futties Al Owairan, Futties Vini J and Icon Cover Star Ronaldinho. So many amazing cards already available and it just keeps on coming.

For me, the choice in Chemstyle is quite easy here but could be one of two. I went with an engine here to make sure I get a good boost on his Balance. But likewise you could also run the Artist chemstyle. Let’s be honest though, at this stage it really does not matter. The difference is so minimal.

How did he perform in-game?

+ Goes to say shooting was outstanding on this card. He just didn’t seem to miss!
+ Strength is another one that was just perfect. He muscled off players so easily, he moved through defenders like a wrecking ball.
+ Positionally he was really good as well, moved off into the perfect space to enable the wingers around him to cross/pass towards him and rocket the ball into the net
/ Passing is what you would expect on the card. He does a job but it’s certainly nothing to shout about. But you’re more likely passing to Haaland rather than with him.
/ Dribbling for me was a bit of a let down, but by no means bad, because a lot of the time he felt a bit too stocky on the ball and couldn’t get the right movement on occasion to burst past defenders
- This one may feel a bit harsh but he seemed to get injured in a lot of games for me which is something that rarely happens but felt it was worth noting.

Erling Haaland - Cop or Flop?

Look, this is quite and clear obvious flop… I mean cop! You’ll be completing this SBC regardless due to the variety of Upgrade SBCs available right now.

But for me it’s worth noting that this card didn’t feel like the premium card to me. It may be down to my playstyle but he felt so heavy on the ball. I really enjoyed his TOTY and TOTS versions previously so was naturally expecting to feel the same way. My theory here is that the amount of cards released now bring so many up to par with Haaland that actually there are so many players that put up a good challenge against him. Not like the start of the year where he just dominated every single game.

For me, he’ll probably start a lot of games but in my opinion, there are also so many players that actually may perform a lot better. An example would be Futties Muriel, I came up against him a lot and he was so good. But I feel like I haven’t been incredibly positive about this card. It’s a great item but the pool to choose from now is massive. Unlock this card for sure because at this stage, you should be able to complete everything!
