87 - SIF
Decided to change up my Calcio A squad, and bought SIF Immobile to replace SIF Icardi.
I used him with Hawk chem in a 4-3-3 (4) with IF Perisic on the left and Cuadrado/Callejon on the right, with SIF Sergej, IF Ilicic and Nainggolan behind.
Icardi was solid in front of goal, never missed a shot, but I felt he somehow got a little lost in this formation, because of the way he positions himself.
Immobile on the other hand is great in positioning himself for my play style. Almost always available for a pass on the counter, and making good runs when a cross is imminent.
However.. He misses ridiculously many clear chances. Even great crosses aimed directly at his forehead somehow hits everything besides his forehead. 1v1 he is utter shite and I call total BS on his "clinical finishing" trait. Finesse, driven shots, power shots, power header, downward header, doesn't matter. This man will not finish of a clear chance or 1v1 for me.
He gets bullied of the ball by everyone, even with 86 strength. His dribbling is nothing special, and I find he has a lot of bad first touches.
The 4* weak foot feels like a 1* to me, as he can't even hit the goal from 12 yards with his weaker foot.
He does however score some amazing goals. I find he works best when all odds are against him. With two defenders pushing him to the limit and no clear passage for a pass, he somehow slams a volley with either foot in the back of the net from a poor cross multiple yards behind him. He has the longest legs I've ever seen on a footballer.
The same goes for headers. Where he somehow misses way to many clear chances he shines when you don't really belive he is going to score. He has made Rio, Chiellini and Ramos look like bronze fools with his sometimes (rarely) great positioning, and out of nowhere he can be roaming two heads higher than either of them scoring beautifully placed headers behind whatever goalie.
Hes passing is like hes finishing, a variable force. For most parts, he serves good passes, both short and through balls. Sometimes hes passing even surpasses good, and can maybe be defined as great.
Then you find yourself on a clear counter, Perisic is running down the wing and it's a clear path for Immobiles pass, you press the button for a through ball and can already taste the goal. What happens? The perfectly weighted through ball suddenly becomes a back pass to the other teams CDM or he shoots the pass to a goal kick or throw in.
For me, a striker who can put away the clear chances and is clinical in front of goal is more important than a magical moment subfrequently. Even though SIF Immobile has pretty good stats for me, I find myself getting way to frustrated using him, and I've lost confidence when he is 1v1 with the goalie. This reason alone is enough for me to go back to Icardi, and I can't wait to get alone with keeper and steering in finesse shots with wither foot.
I will miss the occasional magic though..
So long Immobile - you are not the striker we need, and neither the striker we deserve.
- Great positioning
- Magical finishing when least expected
- Can be a game changer
- Quite speedy for a "Target man" type
- Hopeless finishing when least expected
- Can be a game changer (for the worse)
- Strength feels a lot lower than what stat shows.
- Inconsistent passing
