Player Review

86 - SBC
5.0
Gignac SBC
By Magniloquence, 02-11-2017

So overall this player cost me around the 200K mark, this is mainly due to some positions (usually CB) relying on two specific silver players that were price capped like mad in most teams. My best advice for completing these challenges is two-fold: 1) Each team is only asking for 95 chem, which means as long as you get 10 players in position you can have one completely out of it, so finding a cheaper alternative for a costly position is possible. 2) Toluca doesn't have a goalkeeper in the game, so don't wait around on hoping someone will put one up, they only need 90 chem so you can play two players completely out of position.

Moving on to Gignac, he's exceptional and has been one of the most consistent players in my team. His physicality means he not only wins almost every header (on average 9/10) but he can hold up the ball and muscle every defender, which gives you a lot of opportunities to play him the ball on the edge of the box and then hold it, turn and shoot. I personally gave him the Hawkeye chem as I figured a buff to his pace would be useful especially as he's competent in each aspect of being a striker, scoring a surprising amount of goals from running on to a through ball. Then it also adds to shooting making him more lethal and physicality to really stop anyone even trying to muscle him off the ball. In short he has been mainly used a a super-sub, he comes on and will win me games, he gives any team a great focal point and plays like he can do anywhere in the final third. His high passing stat means he can play through balls and short passes with ease and without worry of them being wayward. I also used him in a front 2 with Mbappe and he was excellent once again, set Mbappe up a lot. He's become the main striker I use, even if he only has 4 chem in the team, because he just plays well beyond any striker in chem and with the chem styles boosts.

Finishing - He scores almost everything inside the box, whether finesse or power shot.

Heading - 9/10 headers he wins and are usually on target, very rarely heads it wide or over.

Strength - No one has outmsucled him

Passing - Sets up attacks as if he were a CAM, great vision and passing ability.

Pace - Whilst he's not absolutely rapid, for such a target man and bulky figure he has quite some speed, he's ran through the defence with counter attacks a lot.

Hold-up play - He can hold the ball whenever, gives you much needed time to allow others to move forward and continue the runs.

Stamina - The stat isn't high, but he seems to conserve it a lot, makes so many runs late game without losing his sprint.

Long Shots - For someone with 85 he is a lot more hit and miss with these, I'd say he scores about 6/10, he's much better with power ones, just not reliable. This shouldn't be much of an issue as he usually floats around the box and aims to run into it, but if you're desperate it may be better laying off to a more reliable long shot taker.

The exotic Dedé

Someday in 2016 Jean-Michel Aulas calls Gignac an exotique choice, when Didier Deschamps chose him to the Euro, instead of Fekir or Lacazette. In FIFA17, with his two IFs, the SBC and TOTS cards, I discovered why. Gignac has a very rare combination of strength and technique, plus a very reasonable pace. And that's what I look for in a striker. I don't need an a...

Not worth it

I really thought SBC Gignac would be the perfect French beast striker I needed to complete my squad. Well, let me get straight to the point, he is not. Although he has great shooting / physical stats, as well as fine dribbling and pace, something feels off. In-game, Gignac just lacks on every aspect. His speed of action is too slow, his passing is inaccurate and he does not make the right runs. On top of that, his finishing...
