Knowing that target men would be viable this year, I wanted a striker that was tall, could jump, was strong, and would be able to flick on long passes from my goalkeeper out to my wingers. Mandzukic ticked off all these boxes, and once I saw how cheap he was I figured I would be foolish not to give him a try. He ticked off all of these boxes and more, and as far as I'm concerned he is currently one of the best value-for-money strikers in this game. Initially I was worried about his dribbling, since I knew I would be playing the ball to him for hold up play, so I put a marksman on him. After 10 games or so, I switched to hawk because he has the "tries to beat defensive line" trait, and I immediately saw an uptick in his already great performance. He operates well as a lone striker in formations with width, but played with a smaller, faster, CF-like strike partner (I recommend Alejandro Gomez or Dries Mertens) in a formation like 4-4-2, Mandzukic can change games through his strength and versatility.
Physicality - The man is an absolute unit. Already standing 6'3", his 85 strength and 85 jumping mean he will win almost every header. Every goal kick I win goes straight down the pitch to Mario, and more times than not he's able to flick it on to his strike partner or one of the streaking wingers. These were the stats that drew me to Mario to begin with, and he didn't disappoint. Beyond that, his aggression coupled with his high defensive work rate means he places pressure on the opposing back line, so if you lose the ball in the attacking third, there is a decent chance Mario can win your team the ball back. Additionally, 83 stamina is excellent for a striker and the man never tires.
Heading - If you put five crosses in the box every game, odds are Mario will get on the end of one of them. Because he is already massive, his jumping ability and strength put him in great position to beat most CBs for headers. 90 heading accuracy means the ball makes it in the back of the net if he makes contact. Coupled with the "power header" trait, Mandzukic is the ultimate aerial threat at this point in the game.
Hold Up Play - Despite the low dribbling stats, Mandzukic's strength allows him to shield the ball from defenders and hold up play for the rest of the team to make it into the attacking third.
Passing - With passing being a much more important stat in FIFA 19, and quick 1-2's being a staple of past installments of the game, Mandzukic's passing sets him apart from many other strikers of his kind (Diego Costa, Marega, etc.). 74 vision and 75 passing wouldn't cut it for a midfielder, but for a striker to hit well-weighted back passes to bombing midfielders or to hit a winger or strike partner in-stride in the box, it makes a huge difference.
Box Presence/Threat - The best way I can describe how his shooting and physicality partner is that when he is in the box, your team is immediately better for it. Want to loft the ball in from the wing? Great chance he gets on the end of it for a header. Want to put a low driven pass in from the midfield as he backs a player down? He can one-touch the pass back to a midfielder for a long shot. On a counterattack and see Mario one-on-one? With a hawk he has the combination of pace and strength to hold off CBs until he is in scoring position or can find a teammate for goal. GK parries the ball instead of catching it? There is a great chance Mario will be there to knock in the rebound, he is very often in the right place at the right time. Seriously, with a proper strike partner this man will enable you to play in so many ways in the final third, which is critical with tactics being a critical part of FIFA 19.
Defending - Not critical for a striker, but it CAN make a difference! He can cause significant problems for opponents in their own third for 90 minutes because of his aggression, work rates, strength, and stamina.
Dribbling - If you are looking for a player to out-dribble defenses, look elsewhere. While I wouldn't call him detrimental (his ball control prevents him from being a liability), his low agility means he won't be making strong cuts or quick movements to beat defenders.
3* Weak Foot - This isn't something I have noticed as causing a problem, but I always prefer strikers who I am confident are two-footed. Scoring opportunities are harder to come by in FIFA 19, so if you have an opportunity to score, you want confidence that the shot will go. Again, I didn't notice it being a problem, but it's important to be aware of.
Pace - Again, not something I have considered problematic because of the role I am playing him in. That being said, I noticed an uptick in performance when I switched from a marksman chem style to a hawk chem style. Since he does have the "tries to get in behind trait," you want to make sure he at least has enough pace that he can get a half-step ahead on the center backs. His strength will take care of the rest.
Long Shots - Just don't. Read the stats. There's no fixing that. Don't try and score with him outside the box. He's wasted if he isn't in the box.
I don't write reviews, cause rather i'll play some matches instead of writing. I can prove it too, because i had prime Van Basten last year and he could score from anywhere but still i didn't wrote about him, maybe it could help somebody but... but this player is absolute amazing and i need to write review about him after last game, where i score 3 goals in 3 straight corners with him . He is absolutely bossing in the air. He strength, heading accuracy, jumping and aggression are perfect for 84 rated player. Primary i use him for heading because i have 4-2-3-1 formation, a as CAM i'm using Hamšík, Mertens and prime Rui Costa for striking goals with foots, but he is also pretty decent with his right foot and his shot power is very good. If he gets lucky he can also shoot goal with foot. Defending skill and passing are good for striker and also in some cases he can cover ball with its skill. Dribbling and pace are not the best but **** it, he is absolute boss in the air with his head. 1 corner = 1 goal. Can compare him to Icardi, Zaza, Quagliarella and i can say that Icardi is not bad at all but look at price what you can get for 4-5k coins.
Absolute domination in the air
Defending skill
Sometimes dribbling (don't expect to pass through players, it's better to pass to someone else, Mandzukic is here to score goals primary with his Head and sometimes with foot).
