My plan was to get FUT Swap dembele all along until I accidentally missed the Squad battle swap player. I gave up immediately and decided to get Da costa instead of grinding those sweaty objectives. I was very hyped up initially when I saw his stat and I played him alongside Boateng with Neuer in goal. I thought I had my right side defence pretty covered but I was horribly mistaken. Let me explain.
- Strength. He is super strong and can muscle off literally anyone off the ball. He once out muscled Ibra off the ball so honestly he is one of the strongest defender, let alone fullback I have used, maybe bar Van Dijk.
- Heading. Very strong in the air, barely lose any header at all. I like to punt all my goalkicks to my fullbacks and he usually win it 9 out of 10 times.
1.Positioning. Horrible positioning for a fullback. Even with stay back while attacking instruction he always push forward mysteriously for no reason. In so so so so many occasions he just bomb forward or stay at the half way line when I got counter attacked. I lost count of how many times I was screaming in anger and horror when I saw he left my right flank completely open. I have tried so many formation and instruction but it just never work for him. I really cannot recommend him at RB unless you are playing with 3 center backs.
2. Speed. Even with shadow he doesnt feel particularly fast despite what the stat suggest. Because of his horrible positioning more often than not he will be playing catch up to the fast wingers and boy he will not be able to catch them I guarantee you that. Yes if somehow they collide shoulder to shoulder Da costa will win but that doesnt happen enough to justify playing him.
All in all considering he is essentially free and is highly rated, I would still recommend people from getting him. However, I am seriously considering playing him in CDM instead as I really think he is a terrible Right back.
