Player Review
88 - UEL LIVE
I figured I would buy him because he was pretty cheap at the time (18,500) and looked decent enough. I normally like playing with one quick/agile striker and one bigger one who can head the ball, so I figured I would try him in the latter role playing with Griezmann (with Aspas at CAM).
Pace: I put a hawk on him to get him up to a solid 86 pace. While its obviously not spectacular, it is more than enough for the way I play with him; with a very fast striker next to him. If you're looking for someone to get in behind there are definitely better options.
Shooting: I find his shooting to be good, but not spectacular. He gets into very good positions, but I feel as though he doesn't always put the ball away like he should. Maybe with a different chemistry style to further boost his finishing it would be better. He makes nice runs so that even if I don't get him the ball, he has opened up places for the other attackers to run into. 4 star weakfoot tends to be consistent, although not as powerful as his left foot.
Passing: The way I play requires a big striker to be a good passer, and Moreno is definitely that (even though I wish he were taller). I use him to hold up the ball and either lay it off to Aspas running in from CAM or get the ball over to Griezmann to actually put the ball away. His combination play with Aspas is great; although I have 27 assists in 33 games with Moreno, it could easily be more if you counted the balls Moreno gets to Aspas who sets up an easy Griezmann shot.
Dribbling: He feels a little clunky on the ball when you're trying to dribble with him. His ball control is very, very good though, so I can play strong passes into his feet, chest, or head and he will either control it or lay it off perfectly.
Defending: He contributes on defense, particularly intercepting a fair few passes. With 85 heading, its as good as you would expect it to be. Any clear cut header he will put into the back of the net, regardless of where he is in the box. The only downside is that he doesn't always contest well for headers which may be a combination of being only 5'11' and his not spectacular physical stats.
Physical: The physicality is a bit of a letdown compared to what I expected. I saw he had great heading so I thought he would get to a lot of balls, but because his jumping is only 86 (with hawk) and his aggression is still low, he often doesn't get to the balls you would hope he would. His strength is pretty solid, but don't expect him to outmuscle every CB, although he consistently pushes fullbacks off the ball.
Overall, he is a very solid card, but not really an elite striker. That said, for the price, and the upgrade potential, he is definitely worth the minor investment. With another upgrade or two, He will probably be a very clinical finisher and have even more usable pace and/or physicality. I don't think I would play him alone up top, because I find that his strength lies in the combination plays with other attackers. I have recently replaced him with 87 Benzema, and they feel pretty similar, although Benzema is much better physically and significantly more expensive.
