Player Review
92 - Headliners
When I saw him going for 35k, I figured that was far too low for someone of his quality. I tried out a 3-5-2 formation and enjoyed it, so I though Ziyech would be a good fit, and allow me to get FS De Jong into the squad. Not only does he put in the most work I've ever seen a winger put in, he also brings a sort of class to the squad in his dribbling and passing.
Pace:
83 pace isn't great, but I don't find it overly problematic either. Because I tell him to cut inside, he is essentially functioning as a CAM, and the pace is less of a liability there.
Shooting:
Probably some of the most powerful shots I've seen in the game. His finishing itself is a bit of a let down (especially on the weak foot), but he absolutely fires rockets. Although his goalscoring return is relatively modest (20 in 96 games may also be a function of my play style), he has had multiple shots keepers can't catch and deflect into the middle of the box for an easy tap in. Also, somewhat frustrating, he probably hits the post more than anyone I use, but that said, he rarely misses the goal wildly; it's either on target or off the post.
Passing:
Probably the best creative player I have used so far this year. His passing short/long/crosses/set pieces/anything, are almost always inch perfect. Plays great through balls, lofted passes, or threaded passes across the ground. I use him to create from the wing, get the ball into the inside to set up easy shots. While he only has 33 assists in 96 games, plenty of passes are quick hockey-assists (passes to the assister).
Dribbling:
Keeps the ball nice and tight when bringing it up the field. Ball control is excellent, taking hard passes and stopping them dead at his food. Balance is a little bit of an issue as he can be pushed over somewhat easily, but he's got such quick feet I don't find him going shoulder to shoulder with defenders often.
Defending:
I don't think I could ask much more from him defensively. Makes several key tackles and interception in the middle of the field, thwarting counter attacks. Although some people may not like it, he is kind of all over the place on defense; at times ending up on the opposite wing to cover attackers (and he does so quite well). He seems to like to defend in the middle of the field, even though I don't instruct him to do so (which actually means that there is normally a decent amount of space on his flank for attackers to get in behind). Definitely wouldn't expect many headed goals from him, not that he wins very many headers to begin with.
Physical:
His physicality is exactly what it looks like. Even though he the hardest working player on the field by far, he always lasts the full 90. He's not particularly strong, but isn't a total pushover. He will not win you a back post header if you're looking for him to fly through the air.
