85 - IF
4.0
Midfield Anchor
By DavideTala, 11-04-2019

Bought for 29k, he is in my team because i need a roma midfield to complete the triangle with ucl florenzi and regular manolas and he's the best option since nainggolan left roma. i start in 433(3) but in-game i play 5212 (i move casemiro at central cb). de rossi plays left cm alongside my boy ucl allan whom i wrote a review about long ago. both of them are set to stay back while attacking, but i use more conservative instruction for de rossi since he doesn't have the greatest stamina. (normal interceptions, cut passing lanes).

however he synergizes well with allan because he adds height and strength to the midfield while allan is the more aggressive and pressing of the pair. ddr also has very good passing and amazing composure and even tho he's quite stiff to move, in the few games i played with him he never took one bad touch or made one bad pass. his strength and composure also helps him keep the ball when an opponent presses him. i play him with backbone to give him a nice jumping and strenght boost to make better use of his height, while also applying the defense-passing boost i like to give to CMDs.

what i like about de rossi is his composure on the ball, his heading and physical presence and the ability to make good long passing to my fullbacks (i have marcelo lb) from deep positions: when i attack he stays a few steps further from the centre of the field alongide allan and if my attacks fail (ie, crosses get blocked away outside of the area) they are ready to take the ball and pass it aroud to build the next attack

on the defensive end he's very solid, he has one of the highest defensive stat for a cdm, especially for an 85 rated card, and it really shows ingame as he intercepts pretty well ad his tackles are accurate ad effective. he wins a good number of headers and can bully players off the ball with his strength+aggression combo. he's a good player to pass the ball to when under pressure because he can protect it with his body and pass it well without making silly mistakes thanks to his composure.

he has a few glaring flaws, primarily pace, stamina and agility and dribbling in general, which is why i would NOT reccommend playing this specific card as a lone cdm (the flashback card is probably awesome and adequate to be a lone cdm) but to pair him to a more aggressive, agile, durable and fast cdm like allan/kante/matuidi and such so they can compensate a little. what you need to do is manually controlling de rossi so that he doesn't "sprint" around wasing stamina and let the AI do work with allan (AI is busted).. or just have a cdm supersub like matuidi who's dirt cheap but strong now. this pair worked pretty well for me is the 7 games i played.

overall, if you're looking for a strong cdm with decent passing and good in the air, this de rossi card provides a very cheap but quality option that you can use to save some coins for other parts of the team. this doesn't mean he's bad, not at all. this card is very good and has a lot of important assets for a cdm. only 29k and probably less in the next days is actually a bargain for what this card gives you.

he also has pretty good links in florenzi (who has an astounding 87 rated special card) and manolas (who has the 88 sbc and the 86 IF/UCL). if you didnt do flashback de rossi, here's the best alterative, although it looks appalling compared to that. if he's this good for me, i don't want to imagine how beastly his flashback card is. props for who has completed it.
